MS65 Franklins?

To crack out or not? Hello all! I've been contemplating upgrading my NGC membership, but am not sure if I should crack some Franklins out of their ICG MS65 holders... Years I have are 1959, 1958D, 1959, 1959D, 1960, 1960D, 1961 & 1962. I paid no more than $25 for each of them. Below is the 1960D that would be worth the most. Do you think this one would still grade MS65 w/ NGC? Any thoughts would be appreciated! Happy collecting! 11506.tif To see old comments for this Journal ent

NGC Members are friends Back at the end of February, a fellow member had decided to sell off and reduce his collection. I knew that he had a rare set he aquired that I was very interested in. I contacted him and we agreed on a price and to make it short, he decide not to sell off, but if he did the set was mine. Well a couple of weeks ago I got an email asking if I still wanted the set as he was definitly calling it quits. Of course I said I still wanted it, and we made the purchase arran

Mint Error coin? #2__ 1944-S

Two MS Error Coins from same dealer and he did not catch either of them? Below are images of a 1944-S MS Jefferson Nickel that I purchased at a small Flea Market in Northern New York. I mentioned this coin in my most recent post in regards to a 1922 D Cent that I found that also has a possible mint crack/ridge. This coin also has a really nice NT on Obv and rev. I hope the below images are clear enough to get opinions from more experienced Error coin collectors. Any comment will be welco

1922 D Cent error?

This may be my first error coin, that I have rediscovered from an dusty shelf of a old consignment shop in Northern New York I am hopeful I will obtain some good guidance in regards to error coins. What appears, to me, is a error coin-- 1922D BN Cent -- that I purchased from a small Flea Mall in Northern New York. Close-up images below, of the Cent, shows what look like a mint crack/ridge within the -O- of the word -One- on the Reverse. After looking at the Rev even closer I noticed the cr

Thanks, Heritage, I Think

Flirting with disaster Six plus years ago, I decided to give my son a numismatic gift as a high school graduation present. He was born in 1990, so I though an 1890 cent though dollar Philadelphia mint set, in about MS64, would be nice. In the two and a half years before his graduation I was able to get all but the half dollar. In the four years since, I have not been able to find a suitable coin to fill that slot. Last week, Heritage had an MS63 that looked okay. I decided to get this over

Today's Silver Eagle Values vs. US Mint & Market Prices

Are we getting our money's worth? The last time I could afford to purchase a monster green box was in 1998, costing me a whole $3,300 with the Dealer's mark-up and shipping. Those of us who have been around for a while remember Spot Silver prices vs. US Mint pricing before the start of the 2006 inflation. In 2000, with silver still at under $5/oz, an OGP proof silver eagle sold for $24. Factor in about $2 per unit in production costs and the Mint saw a 350% return. Then again, production to

Spending spree!

Don't tell my wife! I received a new credit card with 12 months no financing- very dangerous in the hands of a coin addict! I decided I would use $1200 for coins and pay off $100 per month. I went over my budget, about $1320, but I filled some holes in my proof and type sets and got some good prices on several certified coins! It can be amazing what can be won at auction when you can set a bid and not worry about whether it will go over my budget (well, within a $1200 budget) For the first t

My Coin Pal is Back Home!!

A Journal on FRIENDSHIP due to COINS!! Hey Guys, Well it was really nice to finally get a e-mail from TPETERS last night letting me know he was back home from a 2 week stay with family and friends for his sons graduation. The time was not really that long but when your coin bud does not have a laptop to keep in touch the time seems doubled. We usually e-mail once or twice a week discussing different posts and coins of course. I sold around 24 of his proof coins listed on my page for sale w

2012 American Eagle San Francisco Two-Coin Silver Proof Set

Mint web site and phone lines overwhelmed with orders for the 2012 American Eagle San Francisco Two-Coin Silver Proof Set. At exactly 12:00 Noon Eastern Standard Time I went on line to place my 2012 American Eagle San Francisco Two-Coin Silver Proof Set order. It took me a long time to even connect with the mint web site and seemingly forever to proceed from page to page in the order process. All told the process took forty-nine minutes. I also tried to telephone in my order but never got thr

2 Presidents and an error

back to NGC Greetings one and all Received two new coins today. First was my latest addition to my Kennedy collection. A chilling frosted clad Mr. Kennedy that looks fantastic and secondly another presidential addition to my Lincoln shield cents my 2012 Mr. Lincoln. If you notice, Mr. Lincoln is mounted backwards, what NGC calls a mechanical error. I called NGC and they will take care of it naturally. Side Note: The 2012 Lincoln Shield seems to be a hard coin to find in PF70UC wh

Is the 2012 American Eagle San Francisco Two-Coin Silver Proof Set worth it ?????

The price is way out of line Starting tomorrow the U.S. Mint will the selling the first Reverse Proof and Regular proof Silver Eagle 2 coin set. The Price is 149.95. The set has no mintage limit for 1 month then, thats it. No more will be struck. With silver at 29.36 multiplied by 2 that amounts to 58.72 for silver value. The mint is making 91.23 per set it sells. How in the hell the mint complains about losing money on producing the penny and skull drags us with mark-ups like this. I usuall

What's Wrong With This Picture?

I added a novelty to my collection. As I mentioned in my previous post, I won two lots in Heritage auctions over the past week. The first of the two is involved in an ongoing story, so this post will be about the second. In addition to my current focus on half dimes, I still look for upgrades to my large cents, and maybe a type coin here and there. I have also gotten a few Mercury dimes and Walking Liberty half dollars lately. While looking in the Sunday internet-only auction listings, there

Searching for a BRECKINRIDGE CAMPAIGN TOKEN 1860

By the way, although I love the old campaign type tokens, (presidential,Mayoral, governor, etc.) I happen to have a beautiful 1897 Corbett Boxing token which is currently being graded by NGC. Corbett lost the 1897 world heavyweight Bout which I believe makes the token even more rare. If you collect boxing tokens or would like to own this rarity let me know.   And for the record, I'm looking for a 1860 Breckinridge if you just happen to have one for sale.   Robert Braun philacoins@hotmail.co

But currently NGC is grading one NJ Gov Token for me which I should have back very soon. And I will be offering it up for sale.
