I believe that most of the coins from the App hoard were housed in the gen 8 holder and many of them had both the star and the T designations. They were graded before the use of the full step designation. This is the one I own below. Here is a link to an informative thread. I have read another thread about these but I can’t seem to find it right now.
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwimocnK5cH5AhVMj4kEHdjMCoUQrAIoA3oECAkQBA&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cointalk.com%2Fthreads%2Fthe-ngc-t-w-designations-the-lost-designations.208532%2F&usg=AOvVaw1bd4DOD7VrJdqUd2ZXE7-xThat is stunning! I read a few articles which I find to be very interesting. Most attribute NGC as grading the majority.
Thanks for your input!

I am curious, did all the coins graded from the so called Appalachian Hoard get designated as such on the holders? Was doing a little Ebay viewing this morning and 2 nickels are offered that do not have the designation on the holder. The seller indicates they are from that hoard.
1945-S Jefferson Nickel, NGC MS67*T. Colorful Toning, PQ. Appalachian Hoard! | eBay
This one intrigues me because of being an older holder with both the * and T designation. This may be the first coin with a T designation that I have seen with the * as well.
Thanks to all in advance and enjoy your day!

I have found that most 1950-D (not 51-D) Franklins are disappointing looking. Have you found really nice ones?
This is mine in my registry set. I think a lot of the earlier dates and mints can be challenging to find with nice appeal. They are there, just be patient. They also bring big premiums!

I like Ebay as a buying and selling venue and have lost some coins I really wanted, but at other times I have had great results for wins as well. I usually wait until auction end before bidding, input my max amount and watch the result!
Where I have been getting beaten up is Great Collections. I think I have lost 5 auctions in the last month in the waning seconds!

The 51-D Franklin is a really nice looking Frankie! Great pick up!

I had a response to this typed out, but I am not going to stoop. Just know that whatever your upbringing doesn't excuse your behavior. The only thing worse than a bully is a cyber bully.
I am very sorry for the circumstances in which you grew up.
I don't understand how that applies to a hobby or innocent people asking questions about a hobby.

I actually think there is a lot to be desired with a lot of responses I see in this forum group. Not saying on this post specifically, but time and time again I see sarcasm and negative responses regardless of the content of the post. It sure does not help in promoting our hobby as I am sure there have been many newbies who have walked away because of responses given when they have a legitimate interest in learning by asking for help.

Try brick and mortar shops.

I dunno, maybe because PCI’s opinion isn’t worth anything in today’s market? Could that be it? Maybe? Ya think?
I think it’s because you buy the coin and not the holder.

If you like the coins, why not keep them in the PCI holders?

Jim,
nice coins as always!

Honestly most NGC photos aren’t all that good. I have looked at some that I couldn’t hardly identify the coin. I have pics on most of mine, but I see no need to have them.

I think this is interesting. What makes it look curious is the rims on the obverse of the coin. I would tend to think that a post mint strike on the reverse would also have some effect on the obverse.
IMO, I do not think it is worth slabbing other than to authenticate. I would go to ANACS and have them take a look see.

You put forth a lot of effort and provide the most enjoyable show reports of anyone! Many thanks!!

I actually use the NGC and PCGS registry on certified coins for this. Easy documentation, pictures and ability to add relevant information on value. It all goes to my grandchildren.

Nice discovery Greg! Please post some pics after ANACS sends it back!
In 2005 I discovered the 2005 Bison double die obverse coin and remember the rush!

Great collections as well

Actually 1964 special mint sets do / did exist. Examples have been certified by PCGS. They were thought to have belonged to may have belonged to them mint director Eva Adams. They were offered for auction in 1991. They were housed in the 5 coin plastic holder.

I find these interesting, but I am not sure how to determine the value.
