I am traveling for business over the next two weeks and wondering if there are any coin shops with high-end material.  I am on a break from buying (for now), but that doesn't mean that I cannot go look

If in Louisville, Kentucky, I highly recommend going to the Louisville Slugger baseball bat factory! Always open for tours. It's a part of history even if you aren't a baseball fan!

You have to know which variety YOU think it is, and no, you can’t just think it is one. All the TPG firm does is confirm your belief IF IT EVEN IS A VARIETY THEY RECOGNIZE.

I believe ANACS will research and attribute varieties if the submitter does not know. The charge used to be like $12.00 if I rrecall.

  3. I think the bottom line in all of this is NGC should recognize a customer who has a lost shipment issue and needs help. They should be bending over backwards to help out because NGC specifies that Fedex is the only service they will use to ship.

I have no idea why they would institute such a policy unless they get a discount on the shipping fees, thus making money by using one shipping service. The company I retired from outside of Philadelphia got shipping and freight discounts on anything coming in or going out, including Fedxex.

They should allow the customer to pick whichever shipping service one prefers. After all, the customer IS the one paying for the shipping. Their policy essentially says if a return shipment gets lost, the customer is on his own. This is a horrible policy period. I for one will not submit anymore coins to NGC until this is corrected. Granted I am not a major customer, but I have always been loyal to NGC on all coins for TGP.

  4. I have bought and sold through Ebay for many years and have never personally had an issue when buying. I do have my own rules that I always adhere to in order to make sure everything is on the up and up as much as possible. I only buy and sell certified coins. I look at the feedback and am leery of anyone selling with a feedback rating of less than 98%. If less than 98% I specifically the negative and neutral feedback to see what issues were encountered. I also check if returns are allowed. I prefer a seller who offers returns, but that really is not a deal breaker. I do verify cert numbers through whatever TPG service certified the coin. Last but not least, I pay for everything through Paypal because of their guarantee.

    Happy hunting and stay smart!

So contact them again and try to be patient and civil. The fact that you’re already talking about seeking damages through an attorney, gives an indication that you’re being far from patient or understanding.

In the rare event that a return shipment cannot be located, please contact NGC Customer Service at Service@NGCcoin.com or 800-NGC-COIN (642-2646). To make a claim, FedEx will require your tracking/PRO number and completion of the online claim form. Then follow the rest of the easy 5-step process.

Based on this from the NGC site, the onus seems to be on the customer.

Looking through some war nickels on ebay the other day and low and behold this one popped up. Based on the certification, it appears to be from the Appalachian Hoard. Pictures of the coin are terrible. Cannot wait to see in hand!

So the nickel I found arrived today and I have attached my attempt at pictures showing the colors. In hand no doubt this one was from the hoard! Probably from the second group as it has the mesh pattern on the reverse.

I'm not a nickel or Appalachian buff, but didn't PCGS and NGC stop grading or cross grading these coins because it was determined that they were AT?

Yes they did. But some still exist and once in a while they do come up for sale. I think the initial group of nickels submitted were never confirmed to be AT. There were lots of people on both sides of the fence.

Quit using PCGS due to wait times and a lost package. Switch to NGC and my very 1st package lost by FedEX!! Wow. Got quick times and great results on grades, was so excited and then this- just crazy- please give advice! - Thanks Jon

When did NGC switch to Fedex? Mine are always sent via registered mail through the post office.

Only recourse would be to file a claim with Fedex?

I saw this one and thought about bidding on it, but I’m not sure how many of these I really need. They are very vivid coins and I think you will like the in hand experience. The color of yellow on these coins is very distinct and the pinks will really pop off the coin. Congrats on the pick up. Here is another one I ran across. https://www.ebay.com/itm/403483647351?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=Y-PsFmvfQPq&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=j9LjZZhwTEm&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

The Appalachian Hoard also included the 1950-D? I was not aware of that!

I will be leaving Sunday morning verrrrrry early for the ANA World’s Fair of Money.

I’m going to travel highways I’ve never seen before. When you’re a Pennsylvanian, there aren’t that many ways to see north/south Interstates in the Midwest. I’ve driven over 6 million miles in my life. New places are appreciated. No more airlines for under 750 miles. The experience is just too unpleasant. My Taurus will provide its swansong lengthy trip. The new SUV arrives this fall or winter, depending on the chip situation. We ordered it loaded with all kindsa tech.

It’s mostly I-65 through Tennessee, Kentucky (if it hasn’t washed away), and Indiana.  Then I’ll try to navigate the Chicagoland area. Pray for me. Pray for Siri.

I report for work at 6:30AM on Monday morning, for Dealer Day registration. It’s an 11 hour day, y’all.

Watch crossing the bridge from Louisville on I-65 into Jeffersonville as that is pretty damn crazy with traffic, especially trucks Calms down about 20 miles north of the river.

I have to say for as beautiful as my example is in hand, I am in the AT camp. I have seen and own quite a few toned nickels and these just have a look like no other. Mine is quite tame compared to a lot of other App coins I have seen. I have another App coin that I believe is from a later submission. Different holder and no T designation, but it has the same type of toning and did receive a star desg. The 2 coins I have look very similar. At one point in searching for info on this hoard I came across another set of submission #s that are supposed to be connected and my coin had that #. If it is or isn’t an actual App coin I can’t say for certain. It is actually quite difficult to find much info on these. Most of it comes from coin forum threads.

I’m not sure how these are valued either, but I would have to assume that the more wild the toning gets, the higher the price goes. Especially if they are in the original slab and of course a higher grade. I’m not really sure how many of these coins there are. I think they are not limited to war nickels either. I have seen a 50D that was claimed to be from this hoard and it had a submission # that lines up.

I have a set of supposed submission numbers for this hoard. I do not recall where I got them and they may or may not be correct.  I have 291239, 291240, 291279, 271281, 207335 and 207281. Based on the dash numbers, I have seen coins that are as high as 046 against one submission number. I am also not sure if it was ever determined how many submitters there may have been.
