I am 63. I've enjoyed metal detecting for years. I have an older Garrett 1500 gti that cost me about $800 new. I've had a couple other cheapies before that. I seriously doubt that I'll ever pay for it finding something valuable, but I enjoy the search. I've found a lot of coins, a watch, some old toys and a bunch of junk. Lol They are pretty amazing pieces of equipment. Mine can pinpoint a penny in the ground 12" deep. I enjoy searching. Never know what you will find. My dad,(RIP), use to take his to the mountains in Calif and searched for gold. He use to always get little nuggets. Nothing to retire with but pretty cool finding them. It's actually pretty relaxing also. I think the hobby is more of a curiosity of whats underneath you than what you get out of it as value. It is for me anyway.
