  1. So when I'm taking pics of small things that are stationary with my phone, the first thing I pay attention to is focus. Most phones have auto focus. A good tool if you use it when you get your subject right where you want it. I may use zoom but if I do it's usually no more than 3x so I can move my phone around to try to avoid glare or areas getting too much light and to ensure my phone is not too close to block any light from the item I'm trying to take a pic of. We had sold our house, moved and finally bought a new one. We were living in our 5th wheel for over a year. Lol I have a nice Canon, lights and copy stand but all that was packed away. Sometimes a phone camera is all you have to work with. Learn all the camera options so you will know it's capabilities and it will help improve your pictures. I built a little coin table that moves left/right/up/down and helps when taking pics so I ain't moving my phone all over the place to get a good angle.
  2. I have a very nice Canon Rebel, OTT lights and a copy stand. The copy stand is still packed away at this time. I have photo'd many of my coins with my camera. Usually the session with one toned coin and getting it to look like it does inhand can have me taking dozens of pics and sorting thru them. These pics were taken one time and cropped. And I am pleased that it looks just like the coin inhand. Phone technology has come a long ways from the flip phone my friend.
  3. Ya, I hate they quit the sd cards also. At least you can attach to your pc and copy your pics and videos over so you can clear it up once in awhile. So how I did this. After you go in to edit a picture, pic crop and then follow the pics below. Hope this helps.
  4. So I've played around with my phone camera on regular pictures. The camera really does some awesome stuff. I can erase people or things from a pic and it looks pretty natural. This is really the first time to see what I can do with coins. I have this bullion eagle that has some nice color. Captured it pretty good and cropping lets me circle cut too. What ya think? Reverse to come.Bobby
  5. My sincerest condolences go out to his family and friends. A great loss to the numismatic world for sure! RIP
  6. Looks like this thread has gone off topic!
  7. I've been carrying this cleaned damaged Morgan since 2007. When I'm just piddling around the house I wear sweats, but when I go to town I wear jeans. I always carry my case pocket knife, a cheap 3x loupe and this Morgan.
  8. I don't mind the aftermarket slabs for misc sets and coins and stuff like that. I wouldn't move stuff from OGP to them tho. More value in the original packaging.
  9. Probably good that you're going with no money. Let's you get a feel for the place, the type of dealers there and prices and varieties of coins they have. Also, you won't have that "I should buy something" urge.
  10. Looks like a portrait of Ebenezer scrooge. Is the Grinch on the other side?
  11. Just at first glance, I don't see anything worth grading fees!
  12. I'm in the AU camp also. Here is my MS62 for comparison also.
  13. As stated, you need in focus pictures. If all you're concerned about is color, it just looks like an environmentally stained dime. Not an error!
  14. As already mentioned, it is a scrape of some kind on the coin. PMD
  15. The TPG's are the ones that decided symbols can be used in certain circumstances not collectors. Let's say you are a grader at a top tpg, you have two coins that will grade at 67. One of them just stands out as having better eye appeal than the other but details do not warrant a 68. This is where the professional grader can give an extra opinion and add a * or +. Now of course, a knowledgeable collector can also see the difference in the coins but I see nothing wrong with having that extra symbol added by the grader. Would you rather see a grade of 67 1/2 or just a little star or plus? I think fractions would confuse collectors much more than a simple symbol. And then come the stickers but I'll stop at symbols.
  16. Well the same problem is still happening. I guess ngc has not had any motivation to fix this issue! Looks like I'll be spending more time ATS!
  17. Looks normal to me. Just some environmental damage/toning.
  18. This seems to be a glich that has gone on for a long time. I go to the forum and it says I need to sign in. When I click log in, it takes me to the registry page which shows me logged in to. I have not visited the registry and definitely have not logged in to it. So I have to log out of that, go back to the forum page and then it will let me log in. This is very aggravating as it happens quite frequently. Can something be done about this?
  19. Really cool when you can see the clash marks soo clearly. Nice one Larry!
