  1. Don't listen to modwriter! He has nothing beneficial to say. Everything he adds in a persons thread usually goes against all advice of respected coin collectors. He is a menace to this forum. One reason why I have ignored him. Acetone will not harm the coin. Soak it for a few minutes or soak it for an hour. Use your own judgement. If you see results, then its working.
  2. If the acetone bath doesn't work and it really bothers you, you can always put it in a jar of olive oil and let it sit for a couple months and it might soften it enough for another acetone bath.
  3. Explain that to NGC Conservation services. The wrong kind of cleaning strips value and even destroys coins.
  4. It also looks like haze to me, besides the prints. I've never had luck removing haze either with acetone or a quick dip.
  5. When it is made, it becomes an intentional counterfeit. When it is sold as real, it becomes a crime. The sad thing is it can't be stopped. I wouldn't be surprised if there are still a lot of those grandpa collections sitting somewhere with a fake or two still waiting to hit the market by unsuspecting heirs. Everyone who is coin savy has run across them on ebay. Some sellers are unaware and remove them while others keep looking for that unknowing buyer.
  6. Usually acetone will not affect the surfaces of the metal. Copper can be a little finicky sometimes though. I would take one and let it sit overnite in some acetone and see what you get. Remember acetone is very flammable, so put it somewhere safe. It also evaporates very fast, so I would put it in a glass jar or coffee cup and fill it about half way. No styrofoam or plastic. Lol
  7. Well I'm done with this thread. Have you ever thought about using a keyboard to explain what you are trying to say? You're wasting my time with all the same pictures! Goodbye!!
  8. Not sure why you're calling it a special proof. It looks like an Ike that may have encountered some bad hazing and someone tried dipping it off.
  9. The shadows are nothing more than tarnish/toning on the coin. Environmental shadows.
  10. This has been Sleepy Hollow for the over 14 yrs I've been here and they are still here with knowledgeable members who contribute greatly to keeping this forum alive. I like it as it is. We don't get lost in the misc stuff that lives ATS. We get a few rocky members here and there, as does every other forum does, and most get tired and leave. The one's that get use to this place are the one's that grow respect for the members and stay to become respected member themselves.
  11. NGC has always been far better when it comes to leniency than any other forum I've been on. They may have just refreshed the rules lately as we have been getting members that at times have gone over the edge. The rules were brought up to just try to reign in some of the people getting outside the lines. If anyone gets banned, I believe it will be for a very good reason!
  12. I have been a member on CT for quite a while now. Never had any problems. Quite a few members from here and ATS venture there also.
  13. BB gun. It's copper and easily dented with it.
  14. And I have to say that I agree! I am a collector! It's a shame that others buy to rip off other collectors!

  16. Post Mint Damage. That means it got its damage after it left the mint.
  17. I'm not sure. It looks like a nice strike, so could be a proof. Before the accented hair variety came out.
  18. Looks like part of copper plating broke off. Not sure if mint error or pmd.
  19. A lot of those 2009 Lincolns had minor errors. Nothing valuable. I guess I'm one of those dumbasses that don't keep up with all the menial errors that you newbies think you're going to get rich off. I have now blocked you so you don't need to hear my unknowledgeable help or see links to sites that you are too lazy to look for!!!
