  1. I picked up a nice MS66+ 1949 S for the set . I was a bit shocked when I looked up the PCGS price difference between a 66 and a 66+ overkill I think. This coin has a nice tone some very cool die polishing lines and a possible RPM.
  2. I am always role hunting for book coins and odd things. I thought I would post this for fun, it is kinda cool looking. Maybe see if anyone has seen a strike through like this before? I see three lines in the field passing across the neck on a angle. It could be a clash of the roof of Monticello but the die would have had to turn and be out of place to get that angle and location. Take a look and let me know what you think.
  3. It looks like the spacing is the same on the AM not touching at the base. A closer shot like the obverse one may tell more?
  4. I would check to see what Reales are real first. I was told long ago they are copied more than any other coin. It could have been bad information but I would still check. Seeing you buy mostly ungraded coins.
  5. That is a nice looking 88 Jo. Yes I am also heading down the 90's road . I think it will be a expensive trip.
  6. Yes that is one I got in the junk jar. It is a 21 D with a lot of detail but had that gray haze all over it. Once I got it home and under the microscope I could see all the fine lines. So that is the one I use for the grand kids to handle and they love it. It was also my lesson coin. Now that I am older never buy anything without your loupe.
  7. My junk coin up close. A different look at every angle
  8. Not sure Bill, could just be something with the die maybe some grease.
  9. Thanks Lem. I try to stay with the MS 66 FS but sometimes you get a deal you can't pass on like the graded1972 D FS for $7. The price jump from 65 to 66 is a big one on this coin and a killer from 66 to 67 .As I am sure you know.
  10. I got some great deals on a couple nickels for the registry set this past week . I am very happy with the 66 FS 1948 D it is a great looking coin for a 48 and the 1972 D is also very nice for a 65 FS.
  11. I picked up another good looking MS 62 that fit right into my budget. I have been looking for a 1888 for a while now but they all seem a bit high even at MS 62. This was just right and not to beat up.
  12. Oh my, I remember you commenting on some of my older coin books. I have also seen your coin bookcase. I never expected your collection boards to be that elaborate.
  13. Thanks Neo . It is nice to see a completed book.
  14. I know I must have spelled it wrong a time or two babbling along without seeing it. I love the coin board DW. it is truly a collectable.
  15. I'm glad to see that not all consider wear and tear cleaning. I see so many at the auctions that look fine to me with a cleaned label on them. This coin was on the edge to me with all the fine lines by the nose, cheek and jaw. Also being a 1878 CC a widely copied coin I wanted Jimbo to be cautious and not rush into a purchase without more members chiming in with there thoughts. . I myself will only buy ungraded coins in person never online.
  16. I agree it is a nice coin 65 or 66 IMO the only down mark is a rim hit at 8 o'clock on the reverse and a couple other bag marks. It may just not grade enough to justify the cost but that is up to you.
  17. I am not sure how it works for grading. You may have to send it to Wexler's first for a verification then to ANACS.
  18. I am sorry to here of your misfortune. I am sure with your experience and knowledge you will overcome this minor obstacle on your path and find a way to make it work to your advantage. I think we can be thankful in our senior years that coin collecting is a low contact sport.
  19. Ungraded 1878 CC is a big chance jimbo and yes it looks like it was cleaned at one time. Or at least made to look like it is old and cleaned.
  20. A 25 look to me with lots of rim marks and dings. Hard to say anything else, like is it real or not CC is copied a lot.
  21. You ok Quintus? Are you getting enough sleep or are the roosters waking you up to early. You seem to be babbling on and on now for days about water under the bridge.
  22. Congrats DW, a double post ? Commenting with my phone is always a mystery I never know what it will say.
