  1. Sure , I originally started out collecting the War Nickels but soon found that I may want to continue with the full set in MS 64 they were very reasonable in price for someone who is on a budget. Then after a while I thought I may want to go for 65FS coins for a few cents more 64s were not that great looking.. Then I found that 66 was my best all around coin to look for. MS66 are nice looking and quite a lot of them in FS and if I am careful and shop around I can get them for a good price. There are some years you can't find 66FS coins without spending a arm and a leg for. With those I just get the best I can find and hope there will be a deal down the road. I work on the full set mostly because it is only 206 coins but sometimes I find proofs for $2 and $3, I just cant pass them up, Here is the one with proofs set I am working on it is a monster 297 coin set I may never finish but it is fun. https://www.ngccoin.com/registry/competitive-sets/374476/
  2. That's a great idea Neo and very helpful on your part. I cant wait to see some samples.
  3. Thanks Neo, I try .... You have got some really nice coins yourself
  4. I also got some new Jefferson's for the set. I like it when I can find a 60s coin in MS66 most are poor strikes or bag marked to death. The 80 D is not a 66 but a good find in 65FS
  5. A new one for the set. I was able to find a good looking 1890 MS63. I got a 89 to find then I am down to the last 4 pricy ones She has some buff marks but not to bad and it was in my budget.
  6. Yes that slab is very cool. The coins are ok too.
  7. No bargains here I agree Bill. Like I said I bought some graded coins from him and a few ungraded nickels . I was always able to get a good deal below 1/2 price . I am not sure if the wife will give the same deals. But I still like the fact that she is at least bringing in some of the inventory to look at. I am sure she will sell some of it for the full price or close to it. I wish her luck.
  8. I stopped by my local shop to see what was going on. I check things out once a week. The head coin dealer passed away this summer. I have some of his graded Morgan's in my set and a few ungraded and graded Nickels. Most of his coins are graded by him and in these basement holders that he used for all his raw coins. I have to say he was very good at grading coins. So anyway his wife is now bringing in coins that he would not normally have brought in. I have also been told that this is not even a fraction of what he left for her. Most of the prices are high retail but I have to say it is some cool looking stuff. I took some shots through the glass counter so the pictures are not that great but I think you can get a idea of the kinda stuff this guy had.
  9. The story is the biggest value to me. Your grandpa was smart enough to pick up things through the years when he could. I am from the working class construction worker. I only collect what I can afford to.
  10. Very Nice. Everything you have posted looks very cool.
  11. Very nice coins .It is turning into quite a large investment project for you Liam. Go slow it will be worth it in the end.
  12. Well that makes me feel better. Quintus has a good point schism. There is a ton of things to learn and a lifetime of collecting ahead. No need to rush take whatever advice you can get. Most of the members have been there and done that so there words count.
  13. Cameras show things you don't see right away . Sometimes it is just fine scratches on the case. You have to look at it from many angels to be sure.
  14. Taylor7... From the questions you are asking I am going to take a wild guess and say you have some 65 Kennedy's that don't show copper on the edge and you want to know if they are the silver 65 Kennedy's ?
  15. LoL no unfortunately . I did get some nice looking Kennedy's on my paper route in the 60's on collection day. Although I do remember a fresh old bag from 1964 but she is another story.
  16. There are probably many Mogen's out there that have never been to VAMworld . With all the Morgans with cracks in them the mints must have gone through a lot of dies from 1878 to 1921
  17. Yes the point I was trying to make was they look like they were cut out of P+D mint sets . They have no circulation wear but still have the bag marks dings and scratches. Like all the ones I have. And no FT or FS in any of them.
  18. Didn't they make P+D mint sets in 64 and 69 in the cellophane wrappers with Kennedy half dollars in them ?
  19. Welcome foundit .. Cool I would like to see them. Welcome Taylor....Who is Judd ?
  20. They look like they were just pulled from there mint wrappers.
  21. LoL ... You have picked up a lot of information doing your Morgan set Jo. The 1900 Shawn posted is a common coin to me, like Sandon mentioned.
  22. I commented before my first cup of coffee I hate that. I never look at the date.. LoL.
