Hoping to find a source for determining the historical value of NGC graded coins. IRS requires a documented source for determining capital gains tax from an inheritance. Value of coin at time of inheriting-sale amount of coin at time of sale. Great collections auction provided the point of sale info. Needing historical value for December 15, 2021 on both U.S. and foreign gold and silver NGC graded coins.

The multitude of tiny scratches going in the same direction, as well as the tone of the reflection suggests that it has been "cleaned" "whizzed" "polished"

Gave them to the niece for her beginning collection.

Apologies for the late response...Neophyte Numismatist..yes, it is quite a collection...yep..not yet..some of the coins tug at me sometimes...Ha...., thank you, but the generosity aspect comes from a different BamPaw that never had a collection...that man made it through the depression running shine, selling catfish in the City he caught on trotline, and rabbits he snared and shot, retired from the county in the 70's, spent his last days in a garden that fed us, and made enough to keep him able to do the things he wanted to do...He taught me...Everything has a dollar sign on it...but sometimes the man its most important to doesn't have that dollar....

I simply don't understand how someone who has been on this forum for as long as you have, 2018, has to ask the questions you have asked...You know to weigh a coin for authenticity...I didn't know that on my first post. you actually have a scale... I still don't....I call wildly_fanciful_statement...prove me wrong and I will let everyone know I was wrong...But until then...step away with the hustle.

Not a problem, its one that will go into the to niece and nephew pile. They really don't have much interest in these at this point, but perhaps they'll grow into it. When I begin to minimize some of this Hoard I'll probably offer some others that may help fill a spot in a collection rather than just keep or sell. I appreciate the value and history of the coins, but have never been a collector. The proof '62 Jefferson look nice, if you change your mind just let me know.

Someone decide a safe material for such storage and I'll see if its feasible to cut it out on my Co2 laser engraver. The joints on the boxes are similar. Its my new toy, I'm having difficulty justifying its expense to the significant one..this might help...would acrylic be an option?

JPM...this is the only graded nickel in the whole pile...not worth much, but a nice looking coin. You can throw it on the pile for the Grandkids, just let me know where to send it. No tricks, no games, no hustle, just think you'll put in a better place than I will.

You would be better served to start a new thread and share your questions with the others in the forum who have far more experience with them than I do. I simply posted a few Morgans that I have currently. I do believe that they will agree that authenticity can't be determined by a photo, and cost is subjective to depending on the dealership or marketplace purchased from. But, seriously, submit your questions on a new thread and you will be advised far more than I am able to offer.+
