Have NGC grade them and I guarantee they will sell quickly....sight unseen vs. the drama of selling raw....

A graded coin will be more likely to bring in a higher price and also hold it, This 2011 is a NGC Top Pop it is worth $70 the price did not go down on the slab coin when the price of silver dropped. The one below it was hand picked by me at a coin shop it is the same year mint and quality and I think it is worth $35 to $45 now with the price drop.

  2. I think it depends on the coin, I have some MS coins AU and VF and G and they have been graded by myself and other collectors not a TPG service. I have old proof coins in sets that are hazy so they are not PF70 unless they can be restored . I have a few proof coins in boxes that I would have to say look 70 but I can't call them that because they are not really graded buy a TPG service. I have slab coins that I think are graded to high and I have some that I think are graded to low. Grading a coin is more a opinion by someone who has experience and then it is still only one opinion.;)  Just my opinion on the whole grading thing.:roflmao:

That's the thing about this crazy bug.  Even a vaccinated person, who has contracted COVID, can still transmit it to others vaccinated or not.  It's kinda darned if you do....darned if you don't.  I'm not sure of the answer and I don't think the CDC and medical Community are either, just MHO.  I just take as much precaution as possible, (yes) I chose to wear a mask when in public areas especially during close encounters, and I carry a bottle of 90% alcohol with me just about everywhere I go (making sure it doesn't touch a coin obviously.....:).  But, I have a major health condition (which some of you are familiar with) and I chose to err on the side of caution.

You walk around with a bottle of shine everywhere you go.

No its not the hits that I have concerns over, its the overall look.   This is one of those coins that would have gotten a split grade back in the early ANACS days.   The obverse shows light rub on the coat, lower jawline, cheek, and forehead.   From a strict wear and mark standpoint it looks AU58, however I'm not seeing enough luster so I see the obverse as AU53 overall.

The reverse is tougher as at first glance it looks XF45, but the blending of the upper wheat lines and the lack of any discernable luster lead me to an XF40 grade for the reverse.  I always grade a coin by the worst side; which is the correct way; so that is how I reach my conclusion of XF40.

However as I noted that is from these photos, in hand I might have a different opinion.

Thank you for the grading tips, The front is nice and it does have a bit of luster on the bust but the field is mat on the reverse and the wheat lines on the left are untouched but the one on the right is just starting to merge and we also have a small die crack on that wheat stalk

XF40 from these photos, the obverse could pass for AU but the reverse holds it down.

Thanks Coinbuf I know you have a real nice set of LMS. It is hard to get a good photo through the scratched up plastic. So are there to many marks on the letters holding it back from AU.

  6. Gold always works in my book and old coins. I have my full set of BS  ASE from 1986 to 2021  two proofs and one 2021 BS type 2 just because. Now some years of the ASE's are worth more than others but when it comes down to selling a ASE I bet any dealer would only want to pay you the current flat rate all around. I paid a little more for some years than others. So are they really worth more? or just on paper they are worth more ???

I just wanted to add, there's a 2007-D SMS 10c obverse die cap mint error MS68 graded by NGC that looks just like the OP pics. There not mentioning that part of the error on the coin just die cap. Here's the cert# 3237029-002. Hope this helps with any kind of ideas.

Thanks for the link Hinkle. and yes it is a cool coin, I am still waiting to see if someone else will look at the post I made in Ask NGC. I was doing a search and found out that David Camire is not only the big cheese when it comes to coin errors but he is also one of the presidents of NGC. So he is probably a bit busy to be looking at a forum request to look at a penny. But you never know hm

Nice. I would like to think it is a FS. Did you find your nickel in pocket change? I recently opened a mint roll of 2003-D nickels and found 7 out of 40 FS keepers.

I hope so I have put aside 2 rolls of newer random dates of FS nickels and FB dimes I have found while cherry picking. I also save all the 2017 P pennies I find, maybe they all will be worth more down the line.

I am going to go ahead and cast my vote for AT, but I am not at all familiar with how these were packaged or stored, so I could be wrong.

The reason I asked about the toning is I have seen the black foam rubber band inside the coin holder may have a factor in toning some coins? I have noticed coloration on a lot of coins in these type of holders. Not sure if it is the rubber giving off some kind of reaction inside the case. Just a observation and I wanted to pass it on in hopes others may have a thought or have also observed this toning themselves.

The only issue I have with that coin is that there's no weakness of strike adjacent to the void. I would expect the coin's rim to fade into the void if it had existed at the time of striking. In any case, NGC's mint error attributor is David Camire, so this would be his call.

Thank you for your time DWLange. Perhaps David Camire will be able to take a look during working hours if he looks at the ask NGC tread or here.
