  1. You are correct my friend. And I am way off if we go by the new NGC grades of MS 65 MS 65 * MS 65 + and MS 65 + * .... That would be a potential of 79 extra grades Now that makes it way more fun to price a coin.
  2. Well that is dumb you cant look at your own coins? What if the mint sent you Wooden Nickels you would never know.
  3. That is the downfall they may only grade 68 or 69 and that would be a big disappointment not to mention the money out of pocket.
  4. Very cool I don't have any mint sets after 99 the US mint just seam to be going marketing crazy. With a lot more stuff to buy.
  5. Personally I would think any coin that comes in its own packaging should stay that way if possible to keep its collectability intact.
  6. I think the experts are going to ask you to weigh and measure it first and post the numbers here.
  7. Yes one of the higher amount or pennies struck of any year up to that point. 64-D was even higher. I think the most pennies ever was 1982 Large Date with 10 Billion coins. LoL we never see those here.
  8. Ya there are only 20 grades in-between 45 and 65 so that's close. But I do want to say it is a good looking coin Jblindy
  9. But you are asking here first so that's a good start. I would post a photo of your coin before you send it in to see if anyone can help first.
  10. Wow that's a good price about half the cost of the last one I looked at Like I said in a previous post the 43/2 should not be in the Circulated War Nickel Registry Set it is in a class by itself. But they also say you can't fight city hall.
  11. Absolutely.. I had already told my granddaughter we were going to see some coins that day. I had just not told the wife but she is a smart coin shopper and knows I try to only by stuff for 30 to 50% less than retail. I just look for sharp looking coins at the MS63,4 and 5 range. That is why most of my coin collections are not key dates. The Keys are always a higher price no mater what they look like. and ya never know maybe one of my coins will be a Key date... some day ....LoL
  12. I don't know why NGC is asking for a 43/2 to complete the registry set I would think of that as a error coin ? And I don't think I will find a good looking 43/2 picking through bank rolls in 2021 unless it is a estate clean up that has been overlooked. It does happen around here but not to often. When you say 42-P Proof are you talking a type 1 or 2 ? I have a 42-P type 2 MS66 that I got for $28 it is not a proof but it is real sharp.
  13. I am trying to build a poor mans WWII Nickel set. So far this 43 D is the most I have spent out of 8 coins so far at $32 for this coin but still a good deal I think. Now when I find a 43/2 for that price I will have gotten a good deal.
  14. Yes I agree looking for coin shops now days is tough. He does a lot of estate buying, selling and appraisals it is a great shop mostly selling NGC, PCGS + third party graded Morgan's and 2X2 flips graded by him that are all very nice reasonably priced coins. Some gold coins and lots of mint sets, silver and clad. Gold and silver bullion rounds, bars Proof and graded eagles not to many half's, quarters, dime or nickel trays out. but he has stuff all over the place so maybe I just have to ask for them. He also sells collectable war items paper money and star notes. All in all a cool place run by great guy and his wife , My wife and 7 year old granddaughter were with me today and he gave her a 2000 Sacagawea and 2 arrowheads to go with it. I have seen him giving stuff to customers kids lots of times. Kids just glow when he does stuff like that and it is good for future business.
  15. We were apple picking today and the orchard just happens to be up the road from the coin shop. I saw this coin last time I was in the store it was a already a good deal at $85 but I heckled it down to $75 because the case had some scratches on it.
  16. I am very proud of this FS one I found on line. It just came in today.
  17. I find cleaning scratches on a coin tend to go all one way. but also one way every different direction when you tip the coin different ways. Sometimes they are hard to see with a magnifying glass or a loupe. I have been fooled a few times but I can always see them with the USB Magnifier when I bring them home LoL.
  18. Slab Labels and hype are not important. Grade is important for resale. I started out wanting Bullion Gold Eagle coins but then found there value is more just market. It did not seam to hold as well or go up like the real gold coins do. I have 2 older $5 liberty and a Indian so far. I just like the real coins better than the bullion. in the end you can always get melt but a real coin means a little something more like a piece of history.
  19. As I said I know nothing about Ancient's . Thanks for the input Oldhoopster
  20. As I said I am not knowledgeable on this type of coin but until you have gotten someone who is.............. leave them as they are.
  21. I know nothing about this type of coin but no matter. I don't think the coins are close enough to see anything to go by. And in the flip you cannot see the edges. Just my observation andjeff19
  22. Yes I am happy the AU 58 liberty is a worthy coin any gold coin between 55 and 65 are in my opinion. The 1851 2.5 coin I returned was kinda beet up from go .It was a good deal at the time but this $5 coin is much better.
