  1. I picked up a 2.5 a while back and I happen to notice something funny about the rim it looked like it had a stud on it and been used as a necklace and then removed at some point. I talked to the dealer and he said just bring it back and I will take care of you. I wanted another gold pc to replace the cull 2.5 So He hooked me up with these two items at a real deal So good in fact it was like getting the Morgan for free.
  2. Welcome to the forum Richard. Looks like you will be looking at a lot of coins. It looks like we all agree it is a small date 82 D Now the question no one has asked is it copper ? How much does it weigh ?
  3. I see that a lot on coins . The old razor knife X
  4. Like the rare coin report I saw today 1874-cc 10c Arrows MS 58+ yesterday's price $825,000 todays price $82,500 loss of 742,000 - 90% Oh boy that hurts I hope it was a mistake.
  5. Yes I did state in my OP that it is only a guide and a high end price guide at that . And I agree the sold auction price is a closer price range. But when I am out coin shopping the guide is so much easier reference to pop up on your phone when looking at coins in hand. I just think it would serve everyone better if it was up to date. Oh well just a hopeful wish from a grumpy old man.
  6. I agree we always buy the coin first and not the holder , But my query is this .... Scenario..... I have a nickel in a NGC holder asking $100 you have one in a PCGS holder asking $100 both are the same date MS 65 no discerning difference in eye appeal. We both put our coins in auction. Woods020 being a smart numismatic kinda guy, looks up the price guild on my coin and it is $100 and then looks up yours and it is $150 .Well there must be something wrong with my coin that he cant see for that big a price jump. Or it is the the Myth that PCGS coins are just better than NGC coins. The fact is Woods did not see that the NGC price chart for $100 was from 8/27/19 when both coins were worth the same price. But PCGS price chart of $150 was from last week. So he passes on my coin because yours is worth more $.
  7. Yes I did post a copy of this in the ask NGC forum on Monday night but it has not been approved by a moderator ,therefore no one can see it yet .
  8. I was wondering why there was a difference of $40 on a coin that I wanted to bid on at HA. I went to NGC price guide to see if I should bid higher or stay. it was to close to mark to bid any higher. So then I checked on PCGS price guide and the same coin was $40 higher because NGC's price guide had not been updated in a year for that coin. Also I found others in the same listing but different years on NGC had not been updated in 5 years. How are we as collectors to feel confident on our purchases if we don't have a competitive NGC listing for graded coins. Now I know the NGC and PCGS price guides are just a reference But If I was a layman and saw a PCGS coin was $40 or $50 dollars more in value than a NGC coin for the same price I would be inclined to pass on the NGC coin and buy a PCGS coin. I think it would be advantages for a NGC staff member to take a look into updating the prices on your web site. Thank you ... J.P
  9. I have heard all of those reasons but the one I like the best was someone told me long ago. Always pick up a coin and keep it or pass it on to another because it had God's name on it. I liked that one I got to keep the coin.
  10. looks like just a fat ear not the double one ,Sorry
  11. After the 1964 silver proof set in cellophane wrapper there was the 65 clad in the same type wrapper. Then 66 and 67 SMS set in the straight plastic holders and then the 1968 clad proof set was the first rectangle plastic holders
  12. Well hell yes you should have got them you paid for them, You could have made Titanium cup holders for the car or boat.
  13. Wow they must be Key dates. I hate to see what he charges for CC Morgan's
  14. I have some shiny nickels but mine are in slabs and say MS. That one looks like it was put on a buffing wheel after a nice long dip. It has still got some silver in it so hang on to it maybe silver will be worth something some day.
  15. Yes with each year they get better. with high magnification you can see the changes. In my opinion the 65 was a quickie throw together of top BS coins because of the collectors demands the 66 was a more prepared Die for a proof look and then the 67 was even more refined to prepare for the coming years ahead. Here are some shots of the fields. Sorry I did not take them out of there wrappers so there may be some glare but you can still see it well.
  16. Ya woods on the first picture the hair is not to bad so I did not look close. but on the second picture it is more noticeable it has a lot of wear on the left wing under the scratch but that could be grease strike. The more I look the lower it goes ,Sorry Mike 58 maybe 60 the fields are very nice.
  17. Is that a big scratch on the wing on our left or on the plastic? If on the wing I would say 60, 61 if not 62
  18. Ya I did check it long time ago. Mine has normal hair and the I on LIBERTY is normal also. you are correct all the coins are in good shape except. The nickels don't have full steps like most mint sets and the dimes are FB but have a sandblasted texture that takes away a lot of the detail. The Quarter background is almost proof. But they did get the proof background on the half dollar pretty good.
  19. I have a 1964 set and it says proof not SMS
  20. Well Bill there was a VF 25 for around $250 but most were in the $500 to $1200 range and that is average for a CC and then there are some ..........................
  21. Oh just so you all know the joke around the forum is the Special Mint Sets are not. Well I can now say with out a doubt they are better than BS but not as nice as a proof sets there close to proof in strike. They still have a lot of contact marks like a mint set. The 67 is a little better than the 66 in quality. But this is only one set there may be some nicer ones out there.
  22. I went to my favorite coin shop today to see what he had that was new. Dang he got a mess of graded CC Morgan's from one guy and I was Thunderstruck Big bucks on all of them I did not bring enough $$$ for that hoard of CC's But while I was looking around I found the 66 and 67 SMS sets to go with my 1965 set and at least I had enough for those...... $10 a peace
