Thanks, JP, I appreciate your insight on this topic and the help in options of purchasing a coin like this one, and thank you,VKurtB for your insight.

It seems that the consensus is I shouldn’t waste my time in getting this graded, due to the fact it will not be graded at a 70. It’s not that I expected it to be graded at a 70, it’s just the fact that it is a good looking coin and I think It will look great encapsulated.  I’m new to all this so getting a decent coin graded is exciting TO ME.  Maybe some of you don’t get excited over something you think is so trivial, but I do. Maybe you never did? Willingness to take good advice and good criticism is something I can definitely do. So some of the comments are worthy of that, and some are not. Please try and remember, someone new coming into coin collecting is looking to you (old hats), dealers, or professional coin collectors for just that. In the end all criticism is good food for thought.

    Happy Collecting everyone. 😊

Ya Balita ,It just so happens I have a few of the Bicentennial coins myself and I don't plan on ever sending any of them out to be graded. I like them just the way thy are.

  2. Welcome to the forum. GBrad is being truthful. It is a nice proof coin worth somewhere between $6 and $18 if it was in a slab and someone wanted it. After sending in your coin with postage and insurance. and the cost to slab it you will have spent close to $40 sometimes you can get a deal on a slab coin. I always look around first. I want you to understand it is your choice I just wanted to show ya some options.

    Like this.MS 69. . https://www.ebay.com/itm/393644791883?mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&mkcid=1&campid=5337153378&mkevt=1

  3.  Thanks Greg, sorry I made you go through a search that to get that info. I already new that  5 FS thing but I misworded my first post and added the word Does PCGS. My whole point was trying to find out is why in the Registry they are saying my PCGS coins are only 5 FS when some are 6 FS and Coinbuff said it has always been that way . So there it is :smirk:

Hey J P. PCGS does recognize 5 FS as their qualifier

Well you could always attempt a cross or crackout and have NGC grade them if the 6FS is that important to you, not saying that you should but you could.  As to your original question Greg nailed it, in the NGC registry every PCGS FS coin that I have seen has always been scored as 5FS.

No the 6FS is not that big deal, and Craking is out of the question on a PCGS or a NGC holder  If 5 is good enough 6 is just ...bling...:roflmao:

  5. I was wondering ? Maybe somebody could chime in on this question .I have been trying to buy FS coins for my collection whenever I can find them cheap. I know that NGC has two listings for MSFS nickels 5FS and 6FS.. I have a 5FS NGC coin I also have some PCGS coins and they say FS on the case. but when I look at the coins in the NGC Registry the PCGS coins are labeled MS 66 5FS so is NGC categorizing my PCGS coins to there grading standards ? PCGS does not use 5 or 6 just FS. So does PCGS Only require 5 steps to make a FS coin and NGC is showing there more defined grading system that uses 6FS coins...(shrug)

1945 P & S are the tough ones in FS. PCGS may be a little easier since there are probably more to chose from. Which ones do you still need?

How many , Not counting the 43/2 .... Well if I just want to finish it off as a mixed Batch 3 coins but I am in no big rush. So I will keep shopping around for the 65 and 66 FS deals and adding coins in as I find them. I have been lucky so far with all these coins have been $20 or less it's just a matter of being in the right place at the right time. I am hoping to make it a all FS set some day.

Another nice one J.P. I have several with that all over golden tone. Your War Nickel set is growing nicely.

Thanks Lem ,I still need few more but to get the next ones cheap in FS will be a fun hunt. I am also thinking I may want to keep the set all PGCS instead of part NGC and part PCGS I guess it depends on the deals

  8. It looks like a old fuse panel penny. Not a recommended practice...   Sometimes in a older panel when you blow a fuse and didn't have a replacement people would put a penny in the socket and screw the old one back in for temporary power to that line. The round dent on Lincolns head is a good sign, it looks like the end of a fuse.

After seeing the two edge on, I’m back to liking the SBA planchet theory. But so hard to be certain. Good mystery.

I like VKurtB Idea but maybe adding to it With Condor's Idea.  Holding a SBA over a Kennedy half it looks like the letters would be cut almost in half around the edge. I go with Kennedy planchet but cut out of SBE stock or something that is thinner and did not allow the metal to push out to make a full rim. My best guess LoL ...........No mater it is still a cool find.  (thumbsu

Wait! WOW! We’re now talking about silver at just below $24 as being DOWN?!?!? Boy do you and I have a diametrically opposite view of THAT!!!!

To me, $24 silver is not just UP, it’s blind screaming bubble UP! I won’t touch generic silver right now if I were paid to.

In May of 2021 it was up to $29  almost $30 so $24 I would say is down LoL

First, I would like to state that all the feedback was absolutely correct and greatly appreciated ! I must study more and be more patience in purchases. Although I have joined a local coin club there aren't any nearby coin shops. I think purchasing raw coins at online auctions is almost impossible due to enhanced pictures and ambiguous descriptions. I will post pictures when I get coins from grading company. Thanx again for advice. PS: I was advised earlier (on this forum) that this wasn't the time to collect Morgan and Peace dollars but I didn't listen :(

I have to say with the price of silver down, now it is as good as it gets. I think when you did this the price was up high. I have four badly cleaned coins 3 were given to me so I cant complain and one I bought out of a grab bin without a loupe hoping it would be ok.  My rule of thumb now and forevermore is...... I never buy raw coins online and when I go the shops I Always bring a loupe when shopping I tried the magnifying glass but it is just not strong enough with these old eyes to pick up the small scratches.

Debris filled die (commonly called grease filled die) error.  Maybe worth a buck plus/minus, but it might be challenging finding a buyer

Sorry Terrance I did not notice you were a new member , Welcome to the forum. I agree with Old hoopster all the numbers are weak . I was just joking about it wearing off . I am not sure the profit  would be worth the cost of shipping.

Thank you, gets kind of frustrating, you think you have something then your bubble gets burst.

Ya I know what ya mean DD are not that easy to find the way they mint coins is different now than back in the old days. I have to look at the coins in so many ways and cross reference with the links that Mike posted all the time. I always keep hunting, you do find some cool stuff once in a while like die clashes and strike through that makes up for the hunt ... and if you like coins its all good (thumbsu  LoL
