trying to grade.... help?
J P M replied to xxcardboardjunkiexx's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
It looks like it came from a proof set not long ago ,some fine scratches from what I can see there may be a nick on the cheek. I would go with a AU58 maybe even a MS60 if it was in hand sometimes you see more with the eye. -
Ya much better than a old washer of a electrical box knock out. I also found a rust Quarter today.. Not worth anything but fun to find anyway..
-
I found this little guy in a roll of Nickels today .It is the same size and weight as a Jefferson. Kinda of a cool find I will throw it in my world coin bottle .

I was sitting around this morning drinking a coffee reading the NGC threads and thought about that song I started to write joking around with GBrad. So here is. Just for fun I finished it......The Double Die Blues The Double Die Blues by JP Mashoke 7/4/2022 Da Da Da Da Da I been looking at these coins every night and day Trying to find the ones that will pay Most are worn with metal displaced But I keep looking just in case Da Da Da Da Da I got the Double Die Blues Is it these old eyes Seeing double again or is it just a high from the thought of a win Da Da Da DA Da They say I’ll get rich if I find the right one But not very likely I just do it for fun A 55 or a 58 either one would be great But I been looking for years, and it may be too late Da Da Da Da Da I got the Double Die Blues Is it these old eyes Seeing double again or is it just a high from the thought of a win Da Da Da Da Da Now if you ever see me with a smile on my face you will know I found a device out of place I will put it online for all to see And may get it slabbed by NGC

1999 Roosevelt Dime silver proof DDO?
J P M replied to blinewalker's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
It is so hard to tell on proof coins if it is a double or a reflection. And dimes are notorious for having MD You have to look at the coin on so many different angles. I have seen the doubling disappear in the right light. -
It is most likely a MD or Die Deterioration on the lettering hard to see from the picture . I have found no listing for any DDO Sac's and only one for a DDR
-
I am no expert on this coin just giving you a thought, but I wonder why it has such a dark picture ???. There is a lot of detail on the coin. Most don't show a lot of hair, foot and shield.

Welcome Ray, Always good to hear from another pocket change collector. I only recently started to collect graded coins but still do a lot of roll hunting looking for that odd looking coin to put in my error tray collection. I think you will find what you are looking for here. There are some well informed members here with a few good laughs to keep it fun.

Yes Thomas, Cleaning coins is not recommended if the coin was a collectable coin it would not be after cleaning it.. LoL

I remember the drug store in town had a grill and you could get coffee or a soda for a nickel and a cheeseburger and fries was .75 c so a meal for under a buck. but a new car was under $2000 also......... LoL
-
I also see it as a hole for a chain or a loop was attached to it at one time. It may have been filled 100 years ago and now it all looks the same. LoL

I do try for FS but there are some year coins that are unobtainable in FS unless you want to spend the farm $$$. Like some of the sixty's coins. I just go for the best looking or strangest I can find in a nice grade. Also the same with a couple of my MS Morgan coins. I have gotten VAM's instead of MS to fill the set at times. Supply and demand make it tough . Silver dropped again today but I don't think anyone has dropped there retail prices on coins in a while.

1910 S Half Eagle($5) worth grading?
J P M replied to Banner285's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
That is a good observation JT2, you can see the mark much better now. -
I found another MS62 I know 62 is not that great but I have been finding some decent looking ones. If I can get a good looking Morgan for under $50 for my set in this economy I am happy.
-
I am glad you got your money back Patman, Remember if it questionable let it go or at least post it here first if you can.
-
You are a welder. It looks like it got tagged with a welding rod a long time ago. Someone messing around . Just my opinion
-
The 1954 S DDR I got last week dropped $25 this week according to it's PCGS price guide. All of my Bu ASE's are whatever todays silver market is 21.46 as of 4:30 EST and I know I paid more than that for them ....LoL I buy as low as I can because I am cheap and poor. I will probably never sell a coin unless it is a emergency or one of my very common coins is found to be a rarity. Again not likely.. So I will just keep getting what I like and enjoy them.

Thanks for the comments guys. I think it has been in the ground also and that is what is making it dark. In picture #4 you can see the overall very fine pitting in the field and letters making me think it was in black dirt for a long time. As always nice to be able to post a oddity and get some feedback from others who have been collecting for a while before throwing it back in the wild.

2014 P nickel, Error or Just Post Mint Damage?
J P M replied to Origami Master's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
It looks like it was clamped in a pair of vice grips. Post Mint Damage -
I was given this in my change tonight and I put it aside until I could get home an get a better look. It could be a High School experiment. It could be environmental damage. It is gunmetal black on both sides even the edge is the same color like some Black Beauty's. I thought I would post it and get some others thoughts. It is not in to bad a shape for a 64 D Like someone my have had it in a PVC holder there is some green on the coin so it is still worth a post in my opinion.

The Last Time A Cheerios Dollar Was Graded
J P M replied to tj96's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
95% of the public did not know the 2000P sac in the cheerios box was a special strike coin. To myself it was a piece of play money. and most moms were in charge of breakfast. I went to work. I am sure most of the coins got spent at the market.
