  1. In my opinion there is no need for an expensive loupe. Cheaper ones will do the trick. I have 2 loupes that I use. One is a 10x and the other is a illuminated 30x with a smaller 60x lens combo. Both were around $14. I would say if you got another one, try getting a lower magnification of around 7x or 10x.
  2. 2 new additions to the collection. The 42 D has a small die crack at the back of his head.
  3. MS65. Id say with MAC sticker worth $25,000.
  4. Thank you Maribeth. Have a wonderful day.
  5. Congratulations on the #1 set. Any #1 set is a big accomplishment. Nice work!
  6. Congratulations on all your achievements Rev. You deserve every bit of it.
  7. If you could post a couple of pics of both sides of the coin and orient them right side up, members will be able to help you a little better. Its hard to see details when the pic is upside down and at an angle. Also, a brief description of what you are asking about will help a lot.
  8. Hello and welcome to the forum. Not exactly sure what you are referring to but It looks like a dirty nickel to me. Got some gunk on it.
  9. I agree with everyone about the steps. There are several spots that take this out of the running for an FS designation. I have a few pieces myself with the FS designation that I don’t believe deserve it. I think it happens more than people realize.
  10. Hello, I was wanting to let someone know that the point values for the 1954 Jefferson Nickel 5 and 6 Full Step (and maybe the others too) coins are all over the place. Some are duplicate point values for different grades. Higher grade coins have a lower point value, etc. There seems to be a glitch on this particular coin. I think you will see what I am talking about. Thanks.
  11. Extremely questionable to say the least. 2020 was the anniversary date and I don't see the mint making that kind of mistake (adding a privy mark to the die a year early). And to have 2 of them? I could be wrong, but I say fake.
  12. I think it is kind of unreal that the coin was stored at the World Trade Center and removed just before 9/11. Almost unbelievable.
  13. I would take full advantage of that while the gettin is good my friend. Sounds like she has good taste.
  14. Looks like some nice ones. Im sure there are plenty of “shiny” coins you can show your wife if she is that easy to please. Show her some shiny early mercs or walkers. Gold shines very nice too.
  15. It looks like your seller changes his prices for different conditions of his coins. Hopefully you will get a decent piece.
  16. I have purchased from both JMBullion and SDBullion with no trouble. I believe JMBullion is a little cheaper than the other. Just gives you a couple more options to look at.
  17. Verify certification numbers on graded coins. (Preferably before you buy) Always try to find multiples of a coin you are thinking about purchasing for comparison. Don’t just buy the first one you find. If you really like the coin, go for it.
  18. I just don’t see the coin collecting community being that gullible. PQ is one thing. GE is another. “ALMOST” doesn’t count in my book.
  19. The link I posted above in my earlier post is the coin I am using as an example. Yes, they want $6000 for a MS65 non FS coin. NGC price guide for same coin is $25.
  20. I just don’t see the justification of a price of $6000 for a coin that has a normal value of $25. A MS65 Jefferson Nickel with no FS designation is just that. Not worth much of anything. Putting a MAC sticker on that is saying it has 4 complete steps still isn’t worth much of anything. How can they justify the price jump?
  21. I believe this is where George Lucas got the inspiration for Lobot from Star Wars.
  22. They should just put a sticker on that says “ALMOST MADE IT, BUT PAY US ANYWAY”. $6k for a MS65? C’mon son. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1953-S-JEFFERSON-NICKEL-NGC-MS65-4FS-PQ-MAC-2ND-FINEST-REGISTRY-20-000-IN-FS-/402683246455?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286
