  1. You can always tell its not a collector or a coin person if they don't show both sides of the coin. I agree there are some terrible pics on ebay. Not a great marketing strategy.
  2. I would also say that the ANACS slab is another reason for the discounted price, as they are generally cheaper than NGC or PCGS slabbed coins.
  3. Don’t get me wrong, I am in no way trying to tell you to buy or not buy the coin. If you like the coin and think it is a good value, then go for it. I myself have paid a premium for a toned coin. My point was that a clean untoned ASE is generally worth more than a toned one. But, there are plenty of people who like toned coins over clean ones. Im sure plenty of people could go back and forth on this subject.
  4. I agree. With toned coins its all about eye appeal and finding the right buyer. That is a beautiful ASE.
  5. Generally its 70 or bust with ASEs. The price drop for a 69 is substantial for just about any year. What is the grade?
  6. On this particular coin, toning will most likely decrease the value.
  7. Im going to say that the 53D is the best out of the lot. Still just a nicer album coin though. The 71 doesn't look terrible. The obverse is maybe worth a look for doubling. May just be shadows. Would need a more detailed picture. The rest look to be just worth face value. The 83 is really beat up and looks to have some possible environmental damage. That 86D has a ridiculous amount of plating bubbles. Almost looks wet.
  8. Hello and welcome to the forum. You are going to want to post this question on its own thread. You will get more feedback. Looks like a capped die.
  9. Got mine through enrollment as well. Easiest way to do it IMO. Got my new PDS rolls of Tuskegee quarters yesterday in the mail. Also through enrollment. The PDS rolls are already sold out too.
  10. If you think these sold out fast, wait until the new Morgans and Peace dollars come out.
  11. I think a lot of these are scooped up by dealers. In a month, most of these coins will be slabbed and right back on the secondary market at 3x the price.
  12. So essentially, (if it is true what the seller is saying) this is a fancy, searched, customer wrapped roll. (NGC being the customer.) I hope the OP did not purchase this as I would assume you are paying a premium over a regular mint tube from a bullion dealer.
  13. The star designation was introduced in 2000. The T (toned) and W (white) designations were introduced just prior to the star, but were only used for a couple years, and discontinued in 2002. I actually have a 1945 Jefferson Nickel that has both the star and T designations.
  14. I agree with the attribution. If it is there then it is there and should be labeled as such. I would assume a real error/variety on the coin is worth more than a label error. I feel if it is your coin that you like, you can invest as much as you want into it, and if it raises the value of the coin, that is just a bonus.
  15. Does the error designation command a significant premium over the standard for this particular coin? I haven’t seen in the thread if this is all being done for higher resale value to sell or if this is just being done to improve the coin for your collection and state fact of possible RPM.
  16. The roll is already certified by NGC so if it were mine, I would leave it like it is. The coins in that roll are most likely no different from a regular mint tube. Its just been certified.
  17. As far as the COA, the coin from the mint comes with one but when it is sent in to be graded, they will toss the coa and the mint packaging unless you request and pay a fee to send it back. Most of the time if you buy a slabbed coin from ebay or wherever, u will not get any of that.
  18. You should be good. The registry is free. You only have to pay if you want to submit coins for grading.
  19. If you put a cert # in and it is already registered to someone else, it will make you wait 72 hrs and they will email the current owner to see if they have sold it or what not. If everything goes ok the # will be transfered to you. That is if you are in the registry.
  20. I would suggest putting some gloves on.
  21. It is simply a shame how many counterfeit coins are out there. Almost makes you not even want to make an attempt to collect these older coins. I don’t know how many threads I have read where the verdict of the coin is a fake. Just a killer to the hobby.
  22. Its hard to tell (for me) without being able to look at the mintmark from different angles but there are at least 7 different RPMs for the 64D. I would go to variety vista to compare.
