  1. I thought this one looked pretty cool and these seller pics aren’t too bad. (I did circle crop and side by side the top pic.)
  2. They look nice. I like the pineapple. I get half way decent results with my phone. I don’t own a digital microscope so I’m not sure how well they do with full coin images.
  3. I would be happy with it no doubt.
  4. These two 41 Large S coins are almost identical in hand. I got the second one MUCH cheaper than the first. According to Nagengast, there were less than 10 die pairs used with only 1 pair having the large S mintmark. It is said that the 1941 S Washington quarters with this large S mintmark are few and far between.
  5. @The Neophyte Numismatist went into a little more detail on this coin here.
  6. JP has found one of, if not THE hardest coin to find in the 39S rev of 40. I’m jealous for sure.
  7. I’m not much of a gold collector but seeing that 1859 Charlotte Mint coin is pretty cool. Looks like an amazing collection to be able to see in hand. Have fun and enjoy the journey.
  8. Congrats on the new ones brother. Glad to see you back in the game.
  9. I did this little mock up of the 8s from 38-80 for anyone that is interested in seeing a side by side comparison.
  10. I still get them from the mint each year and they stay in the OGP as well.
  11. I’m generally not an error coin collector, but I do like the broadstruck coins and always wanted an example for the collection. I also wanted an example of a holder with the FS designation before they went with the 5 and 6 step. I believe this is a Gen 7 holder. 2 birds with one stone. Edit / When I entered this cert# it came up as a CAC coin which I thought was weird because it is too modern. Out of curiosity I checked the CAC site cert lookup and no match was found. I think it is a glitch in NGCs system.
  12. Well…old days as in I don't collect the slabbed ASEs anymore.
  13. I am not saying I know exactly how this coin was damaged, but the raised bubbles on the coin indicate that the the clad layers are separating from the copper core after being heated up in some way. Could be a fire, sitting on top of a wood stove, heated with a torch, etc. There are a lot of ways a coin can get damaged. Coins will not always loose their shape after being heated up and any discoloration that may have been on the coin could have been cleaned or worn off when put back into circulation. Whatever happened to this coin, it is not a mint error.
  14. It looks like this coin was exposed to high heat at some point. Possibly in a fire.
  15. I have taken stickers and things with adhesive off with some WD-40. I have never used it on a slab though. As far as polishing the scratches out of the slab, there are some products specifically for that. I believe one product is called Slab Renew and another is Novus. Some people use headlight restorer. It does take a little practice and some elbow grease. I have only tried it once and pretty much made it look worse. It can be done to a certain extent. It really depends on how bad the slab is. Some people can get them to come out really good.
  16. You would never be able to tell. These ladies have been around the block.
  17. I figured while I have these things drug out I’d post a few. Haven’t looked at these in a while.
