Woods020 got a reaction from The Neophyte Numismatist in April special for my NGC friends
Now that I am up and running a few months I wanted to entice my NGC friends into adding a new trusted dealer to their list . For the remainder of the month of April if you purchase a coin from me, you will receive an additional NGC slabbed coin for free. The freebies will range from state quarters in MS 67 to other modern coins in good grades. Just put a note in the order or PM me here and I will make sure it gets included in the shipment. I have added a lot of new inventory this week. Check out my website:

Woods020 got a reaction from Hoghead515 in Toned coins
The toned coin market is insanely hot. If there is rainbow to any degree it’s 3x the coin value and up depending on color. I sold an $80 merc dime for $500 last week and it was far from rainbow. It had nice rim coloring. I wasn’t going to sell it and a guy offered me $500 for it when I said I was just putting it in my collection. I couldn’t refuse that and I would have never thought to price the coin at that. If the taste of the market decides to change and view toning more negatively a lot of collectors will be very upside down in a lot of the common date Morgans.

Woods020 got a reaction from Coinbuf in Coins
Hi Laura. I would start with posting coins on here. It’s a good way to get a lot of free opinions from some very knowledgeable people.
The requested format is to include one coin per post. Post clear and well focused pictures of each side. Try to crop it so the coin fills the frame, but I can’t stress enough the importance of sharpness/clarity. With decent pictures you can get a great deal of information.
Depending on the coinage we may ask for additional info such as diameter or weight, but we can cross that bridge if needed once we see the coins.
Lastly be open to real feedback. The people here do love to see new collectors, and enjoy seeing people find something special. However, be prepared for the truth to be it’s nothing special. So many people have preconceived notions about the rarity/value that they refuse to be given accurate information. This group will tell you what it is, good or bad, factually. Just don’t get offended by facts, which shouldn’t need mentioning, but it does.

If I actively collected U.S. coinage I'd be all over this. One day, I'll circle back. Nice inventory by the way.

If you need a microscope and camera AMSCOPE is a popular and reputable choice. Spend the extra money to get a stereo microscope. Microscopes and the cameras are one area you for sure get what you pay for.
Now if you just need something to view coins and snap some pics without concern for quality go with one of the $40 USB microscopes you can plug into a computer.
With that said generally speaking a microscope is not needed in this hobby. I have one and used it a lot in the beginning. Now that I have learned much more I am glad it came with a dust cover because I haven't touched it in atleast 6 months. And I am looking at coins daily.

Woods020 got a reaction from JT2 in Cameo vs. Not Cameo
I tend to agree with the grading that this falls just short of cameo. Should maybe be considered a star, which NGC does when coins fall just short sometimes. With that said when you take pictures lay the coins flat and take pics straight on. The angles of the coins in your pics are not good for us to see the coins well.

I like it, but just outside my budget for the P-lot set.

I would have liked to be in the grading room at PCGS when the grader read the form then pulled these bad boys out. I bet he called over others to share a laugh

Woods020 got a reaction from Henri Charriere in This ebay listing should win an award
This is one of the best I have seen. I have reported and hopefully it gets pulled. This seller has 53 insane “error” listings for insane prices. I am taking the time to report most of them. However this is one that really made me laugh. This thing looks like it was trampled by a team of mules instead of a mule. And it is body bagged because PCGS doesn’t grade mules. Yours for the low low price of $49,999.99 and free shipping!

Woods020 got a reaction from Coinbuf in What next
IF you were to find a new variety, you would need to first get it listed with one of the variety organizations. CONECA is the main one. You would have to send the coin to an attributor, and they will make a decision. Also bear in mind if they do feel it is a new variety, that does not mean it will be recognized everywhere. Many varieties that are recognized by CONECA, Wexler, etc. are not also recognized by the TPGs.
