  1. I have heard two or three different people tell me they cracked out a straight grade ANACS and it crossed as cleaned at the big two. Made me start looking a lot harder at ANACS coins for sure.
  2. I’m not down playing your collection. Your comments are all encompassing across the entirety of numismatics.
  3. That sir would be one very slippery slope. EVERY SINGLE VARIETY imaginable would be mind boggling. Honestly who in their right mind cares about any and every minuscule nuance? Generally speaking, and I’m not saying it’s you, people today want to claim a variety on everything and want it to be rare so they can have a valuable coin. They don’t want to put the time and effort into building a collection to be proud of, they want to hit it rich out of the gate. That’s not the way it works and will never be the way it works. If that ever becomes the case this hobby is dead. Plain and simple.
  4. I bet you can’t say that description 3 times fast…..
  5. You are correct. I lived not far from that Sanford station and still have a house there in Lake Mary. Have they finished the bright line? They were building it last I knew. There is a station in Sanford walking distance from Amtrak to jump on and run to Tampa. That would have gotten you close to home. We could totally piece this thing together with several connections 😂 By the way I would have grabbed a car and drove it as well in your position. Having control of your travels means a lot.
  6. I agree with others. A nice album coin but it probably doesn’t make sense to grade. I can’t figure out why the nocks and branch are so worn and the talons aren’t. Is that just a shadow?
  7. These are tough to grade, for me atleast, with the design being incuse. With that said I would say AU. Looks like some wear on the high parts of the headdress.
  8. It is very nice to help someone and feel like you actually did help their learning. So so so many newer members get on here and will not listen to any reason. Stick around and we will be happy to help in any way we can. I figured once you saw the additional pics on Variety Vista it would help. NGC Variety Plus is great, but for that one they only had the one pic of a well circulated coin.
  9. You may be waiting a while for an Amtrak station to pop up in A-RAB Alabama. As I am sure you have learned by now they don't like strangers up on sand mountain
  10. Russell, Economy will probably work if speed isn't your main concern. It would need to be better than a 50 to break the $300, atleast in the real world. Price guide who knows. As an aside you may benefit from posting some clear, well focused pictures of the coin front and back. Crop the picture so the coin fills as much screen as possible while maintaining focus. It may be better than 50, or it may have issues. Not a bad idea to get some free opinions.
  11. He will have a blast. That’s a nice drive out through the dessert. Well many people won’t accomplish in a lifetime what you have raising two good men. You must not be too bad as a dad there Hog.
  12. That coin is a stunner. And it now has a green bean to bring the whole outfit together!
  13. I know it can be nerve racking but it’s actually very safe. If you just look in a big airport at the number of planes and people coming in and out at a constant pace, and think about how rare you hear of a crash, it’s quite safe. However I do understand the concern. And out there over the mountains it can get a little bumpy. It’s just the way the wind is pushed up by a the mountains. But usually nothing to it. I was in Salt Lake City a month or so ago and slept until we landed. If it helps those planes have double and usually triple redundancy on all systems. A LOT of things have to go wrong before it’s even a concern. They have things to prevent any conceivable issue. Do they have a chaperone? It’s always amazing to see the flight attendants tending to the unaccompanied minors. They treat them like kings/queens and they are the first ones off the plane. Also congratulations. It sounds like you have raised a fine young man. That’s not easy to do these days. You should be very proud.
  14. I’m not certain the coin is authentic. The reverse has a look that bothers me. The obverse has voids I don’t like. Others may feel differently. It’s been harshly cleaned at a minimum. i would suggest you post the VAM question on VAM World’s chat forum. Those guys can glance at a Morgan and spit out the VAM.
  15. Ah the joys of air travel. I’m a very very frequent flyer and these types of things happen more than most realize. You occasionally get stuck for a night somewhere random, connections cancelled and you have to get creative, weather, etc. My personal favorite is after boarding the plane the pilot times out. You would think they would know that before boarding but nope. I have that happen atleast once a year. With the worst luck in the history of man kind, and traveling enough to get somewhat accustomed to these issues, it’s never fun. And it usually happens when you are dead tired, as I’m sure you were after the show, and want nothing more than to simply get home. I hope you atleast had some laughs on the road trip.
  16. Congrats. If I were you I would send the coin to ANACS to get a discovery coin designation. I think they are the only ones that do that with these. Not worth a ton but I would preserve for posterity that it was the coin that discovered the variety.
  17. I am leaning towards a late die state that is showing deterioration doubling. The flow lines would help make that case as well. Here are more pics for that known DDO. For example compare the R on the known DDO to yours and notice how the doubling is very different. http://www.varietyvista.com/06 Mercury Dime/DDOs 1926.htm
  18. There does appear to be doubling on the R, but it isn’t consistent with the known DDO you referenced. That is the only known DDO for that date so I venture to guess this is MD or DDD although it doesn’t appear like it at first glance. My guess is die deterioration doubling for now. Can you provide more, clear pics of the coin? I do agree it has issues. Some deep carbon spotting and it looks like a previous dip attempting to remove them that went a little too long.
  19. I can pick you one up at a show I’m sure. Even with me not marking it up whatsoever show prices and shipping may be cost prohibitive. Happy to do it if you really need one.
  20. It does indeed appear to be a micro S. I don’t know what the policy is at NGC regarding correcting the attribution. Given this is a no-fee attribution I wonder if they will correct it for free? It’s essentially like a mechanical error and the label reads wrong, which they would fix. With that said I’ve never attempted or heard of anyone attempting a similar discussion with NGC.
  21. Hello and welcome to the forum. This is a slightly misaligned die. Not worth sending in. Here is a reference for you to learn more. http://www.error-ref.com/horizontal-misalignment-of-the-hammer-die/
  22. I have tried with no luck on the NGC app as well. Someone may be able to tell you how. To me it is much simpler to use the PCGS CoinFacts app for that. Just go to the year/mint coin you are interested in and click on it. Then near the bottom of the page for the coin specifics click varieties. It will list all of the varieties for that coin. Then just choose the right variety and look at the price guide.
  23. Only US. I might be interested in foreign gold. Strong preference is for slabbed, but I might be interested in raw if you can get quality pictures.
