Alex in PA. reacted to Oldhoopster in Morgan Spitting Eagle 1891 CC VAM
I don't understand. Why wouldn't you want to go to a resource that has dedicated subject matter experts to discuss your new proposal?
I'm sure there are knowledgeable VAM collectors here that can provide feedback, but why not go where the experts are concentrated?
Are you really interested in determining the answer?

You should take it up with the members at

Alex in PA. reacted to Lem E in No face quarter??? How does this happen?.
Welcome. It was either caught in a piece of machinery and ground down or it was done intentionally by someone. Either way it is just a damaged quarter.

And that is why I wait for someone like you to come along. I cannot grade, nor evaluate, or tell a counterfeit from a brick if it fell on my head I also 'assume' both are valuable and the two people posing prior to me appear to very much know what they are talking about.. Wasn't being a smart alex but I place a lot of faith in NGC & PCGS. .

Just the fact that neither coin is in a TPG slab (NGC or PCGS) and what's that neat device?

Perhaps, if @Bill Wynn would just like to display the coin for all to like, without seeming cheap, he could purchase one of thse for a whopping $9.95......................

As I posted previously, your should compare them to authentic examples. Compare your 1794 dollar to this one.

Sorry, but both coins are fake. Compare them to authentic, graded coins and the difference will be obvious

Alex in PA. reacted to VKurtB in 2021 morgan dollars do you think they will maintain the current value?
He who buys coins with the intent of turning a profit nearly never does. Reminder: the 1964-2014 Kennedy half in gold can EVEN NOW, with bullion well up since then, be purchased for UNDER the original issue price.

Yes. The US Mint cannot seem to get it together on these.

Alex in PA. got a reaction from fuzzy_ in 2021 morgan dollars do you think they will maintain the current value?
Okay fuzzy; probably yes. P @ MS 70 = $250.00 - D Mint = $675.00 @ MS 70 - CC = $295.00 @ Ms 70 - S = $250.00 @ MS 70 - O + $195.00 @ MS 70. Nationally known deal with negotiable prices. eBay probably a bit lower.

Sometimes it is really hard to stay within the budget. Some coins are just so beautiful it,s painful to pass them up.

Alex in PA. reacted to Mr.Bill347 in 1945 Walking Liberty half dollar
Bill Wynn, that is just a normal coin ding, no additional value though. Not bad for 50 cents! Keep it, slab it, enjoy it. They are beautiful coins.

thanks Coinbuf....I am a raw newbie in the coin collecting business....doing as much research as I can...I check both the NCG and PCGS price listings and try to compare what I have against the grading photos etc but I still have some difficulty finding differences between ms66 and ms67 etc. and part of my research is getting answers from you guys who have the experience and knowledge that I wish I had

It could possibly be a clash mark if truly raised (and not raised because the metal was moved from contact) which can be interesting but adds no value. From the photo it just looks like any of the other numerous contact marks on the coin, but I'm not able to say for certain from your photo.
Just as I'm curious, what grade do you think this coin is and what do you believe the value is?

Alex in PA. reacted to Bill Wynn in 1945 Walking Liberty half dollar
hello all....I found this 1945 Liberty Walking half in a bank roll from Wells Fargo bank....excuse the photo please but the coin looks much better than my pics...since it came from the bank it has been circulated, has some dirt on her dress and on the eagle on the reverse and a few very small hairline scratches...does anyone have any idea how this might be graded? I would appreciate any advice and thanks

It sure is. Ive been broken hearted more than once in this hobby. I spent a little more than I was allowed to once or twice. Also got a few coins she didnt know about. Thats why she got tore up when she seen it. She tries to check the mail now before me now but I got someone working for me on the inside. The boys check it and hide the packages for me before she gets home. So Im not really lying to her. Im just not telling her. I made a promise to her Id never lie but I never promised Id volunteer info. If she dont ask I dont tell.
