About this journal

I was born in Iceland and came to the U.S. when I was three years old and started collecting U.S. coins when I was eleven years old and I have been hooked ever since. I started collecting Icelandic coins in 2003 with the intention of collecting all the coins from the Kingdon Era 1922 to 1942 in high grades of MS-63 or better.

I Finally Found A Icelandic 1925 2 Kronur

I Have Searched For Nearly Seven Years Hello Everyone After looking for seven years for a 1925 2 Kronur coin that was anything better then a VF may have come to light. About just a little over a month ago i got a email from Brunn Rasmussen Auction House in Denmark, Well I have been getting these notices for six years now and none of there auctions never held any Icelandic coins that I wanted until this one. With no thought of finding any thing in the auction I lazily browsed the catalog an

FRESH FROM NGC

IF ONLY I COULD FIND A 1933 25 AURAR IN UNC On July 29Th I seen the results of my submission of a Icelandic 1925 25 Aurar and was happy to see that my coin was given a MS-64 grade, But was hoping for a 65. Its more about the coin then the grade when it comes to rarity, This is the only one I have come across in the 6+ years I have been assembling this set of Kingdom Era coins from Iceland. So how can I complain about a single point....NOT, As my teenage daughter would put it. Now if only I can

Re Apologize

Hard Times We live in uncertain times that can be very scary for many of us and praying for good fortune is not something uncommon for any one of us, we all have done this in the past for many reasons we can not even fathom. So what he asked for your prays, He was just reaching out for help, For what ever reason he had. When I first read his journal about this I thought to myself that it was odd to ask people to pray that he gets 70's on some if not all of the coins he submitted to NGC and the

The Heart Aches of Coin Collecting

Just Checked NGC POP Report Now After reading the new report for coins graded by NGC for Iceland. I became depressed over what I seen .....A complete set of 1940 proof coins which I have been searching for in the past six years of collecting Icelandic coins from the Kingdom Era 1926-1942. NGC had at one Time graded all but the 1 Eyrir before I started this collection and hoped that they would show up at some point, that never came. Last year in July a 1940 and a 1946 proof sets came up for auc

RE: My Year End Review For 2009

Result's of The NCS/NGC Submission of Icelandic Proofs 1958 to 1962 First i would like to share my lose of my mother on January 31 of 2010 from cancer. We had a beautiful funeral for her with so many people attending that i didn't have a clue to who some of them were. I felt the need to share this in my journal because it was my mother who first sparked a interest in coins by giving me a old silver standing liberty quarter back in the mid-60's. She was born in Iceland on December 11, 1934 and

My Icelandic pre-1964 Proof coins

Back from NCS/NGC I checked my USPS tracking number this morning and my 5 proof coins are coming home to me today. After reading a recent journal by davidk about going postal I became a little worried about the post office losing my coins but was very happy and relieved to see that I'm getting them back this morning. These coins are very rare (10 to 15 minted for each) but not expensive. They can range from $70 to $125 dollars for impaired proofs and up to 3 to 4 times that in BU condition. I'

My Year End Review For 2009

My Icelandic coin Collection Well its been a very interesting year for my collection of Icelandic coins. First, I found out that the 1939 1 Eyrir really had three different varieties for this date which I found the last one about two months ago, KM only states that there are only two. Second, I found a later die state repunched 9 of 29 for the 1929 10 aurar in a real nice unc. Third, A wonderful 1946 2 Kronur with great mint luster just like the day it was minted well maybe the next day. this

RE is now the time

unfortunatly it is The way things are going for may collectors in todays economy people have to sell thier collections. Well if you are one of the people that have not been affected then its time to buy. But if you are looking to invest in coins then thier is a time proven way of doing this and that is to invest in the U.S. major key date coins. I have read many articals and books over the fourty years of collecting and the best is your key dates these have over the years have proven to be yo

Cleaning coins Its been a while since my last boring journal about Icelandic coins. This time its about the cleaning of coins. First NCS does not clean coins. That is a term that was used by people years back to describe coins that has been cleaned in someway that is dedectable at first glance. I have been around coins for over fourty years and I have seen some beautiful coins in my time. Many years back before cleaning became a issue a number of dealers I new all told me that 90% of the sil

RE: A loss beyond words

So very sorry. I am so very very sorry for your lose of your son. This would not have beeen something that i ever would have expected to read in the journals today. You must be a very strong person to be able to share your terrible lose with your fellow collectors. Please accept my most sincere condolences to you and your family. The coin you picked is a beautiful coin for your son. I'm sure he will love it.

RE Jason Von Dinger

You make a good point but I agree with some of the things Jason says about ebay but not all ebay dealers are bad coin dealers. There are some really good honest people out there like for one person i deal with from iceland. I won this coin i sent for gradeing for a two day service and it came back to me about two weeks later go figure with the hurricane. well the seller took back the coin and gave me the $50 bucks for the gradeing cost now this is a ebay dealer that has a wonderfull way to do

It showed to me what the journals are really meant for, the study of numismatics. I commend him and I hope more people will bring these types of numismatics journals to this forum. I would love to hear more stories like this. Its what makes it all worth while. Thanks PSL Keep it coming

It was getting a little nerve racking I put a absentee bid on Ebay for the 1929 1 krona and watched it live on Ebay ready to bid again if it went over that amount i placed. The scary part was when i placed my cursor on the bid now button it went to the (I) form which, i think meant that i was not going to be able to bid again NOOOOOoooooo. But it didn't reach my maximum bid . I am truly a coin junkie I always knew i was. anyone out there got a Valium. Well I hope everyone out there has good lu

Copenhagen Mint And The Icelandic Die's Of 1922-1940

Do They Keep Blank Die's I think that the Copenhagen Mint must have stored unfinished dies at their mint. If you were to look at a group of lets say 2 Aurar's from the 30's that will consists of the 3 known variates of the 1938 2 Aurar. They are the open 8, half open or top of the 8 is filled in and the closed 8 which is both top and bottom of the 8 is filled in. And then the 1940 type 1 Copenhagen minted 2 Aurar, London minted the same year later in the year. The years on the coin is separat

First Coin Part II

Beautiful, Ain't they Well i was able to post the picture of one of the coins. Here is the other one. I had forgotten to mention that the names of the counrties are near the bottom of the coin where it appears to be a sea with the name of Iceland, Greenland and Faroe Islands in it ,but spelled in Danish. This two coins (Piastre) wore not meant to be legal coinage for these countries but meant to be used in Danish trade in the Far East. I hope you all find the coins you are looking for, just wi

Being the optimist i am at that time i said to my self, i will find them some day and put them in my collection. Well low and behold I didbut not in my collection. Iceland (1940) The Copenhagen and London Mint's

1940 OR BUST Coins from Iceland are not as easy to find in mint state as you may think for the year of 1940. The denominations of 1 Eyrir, 2 Aurar, 10 Aurar and the 25 Aurar are not as hard as the 5 Aurar, and the 1 Krona and 2 Kronur. Not that the lower denominations are easy. The 2 Aurar has two mintage's one at the Copenhagen mint (then became nazi occupied)Copenhagen mint of 257,280 and then the London mint at 1 million coins for the 1940 2 Aurar. The most difficult of this year is the 5
