I love Coins Mostly Gold & Silver Halves

I Am "Eat Up" With Collecting Walkers & FBL Franklins!!!!! I started collecting coins in the mid 60's but did'nt get serious until the late 80's when at that time I started buying slabbed coins. I also started getting proof and mint sets every year along with buying all the back dates where now I have proof and mint sets all the way back from 1950 to the present. Silver eagles caught my fancy and in 1996 I started buying a roll every year which I have continued to the present. It was a bit

State Quarters and Crazy Laws

Honoring the 50 states with a few laws we never knew existed. From 1999 to 2006,I left a description on all of my state quarters about laws you never know existed.Every Quarter has a different Law.For state quarter that I have in my collection (clad and silver)there is a different law.If you want to read the coin descriptions you will laugh until it hurts on some of these laws.As I get more state quartes in I will update the laws.I tried to keep it a clean as possible. Some laws I couldnt add b

She Is Full of Grace and Beauty

She is best known by lady Liberty I ordered a 2007 One Tenth Proof Gold Bullion of St Gaudens Liberty from the U.S. Mint and it just arrive a few days ago. Even though this is the smallest of the gold offerings it is something to behold. Looking at this coin is some how mesmerizing. Please allow me for a few minutes to espress my feelings that this image of Liberty has for me, and I trust many of you as well. The design is terrific, a masterpiece of art, grace, style, and beauty. This coin cap

Touchy Raw Coin Dealers on eBay

Don't mention a raw coin they are selling is headed to either NGC or PCGS Today I emailed a dealer on eBay about an old gold coin I had my eye on advertised as BU+. Asking if the coin was in original state and if it would make it into plastic with either of the 2 top TPG's. In so many words he said no and to "stop asking idiotic questions". I deleted the coin off of my watch list immediately!

The Dreaded Estate Sale

Don?t Be A Victim Dear Journal: I often wonder whether all of those coins listed for sale on ebay as part of an ?Estate Sale? are really from the estate of someone who passed away. I did a random search on ebay for coins with ?Estate? in the title and got almost 2,000 listings. There is a certain attraction to a coin, if you think that it has been sitting in someone?s safe deposit box for 20 or 30 years, and it is now seeing the light of day for the first time in ages. Everyone is looking

Full Bell Line Franklins among other things!

I guess i'm a whore as this is just my latest love... Creating a complete set of fbl franklins is my goal. I thought that a set in 64 would satisfy me but I know it will not as I have already added several 65's and I have 5 in non fbl 66. I have been collecting coins in general since 1965 when my uncle gave me an 1810 large cent that he had found on some railroad tracks in st. marys ga. It had alot of pitting and just had it graded in 2006 and it came back from ncs as an 1810 over 9 with extra

A little bit of this and a little bit of that. thanks Hal

A new coin and a old coin. I can't believe its been two weeks since my last journal entry. In the last two weeks I have added an old coin 1925S peace dollar in MS62 NGC and a new coin 2007 Thomas Jefferson dollar in MS67 FDI that one is a PCGS. I need 4 more coins to complete my Peace Dollar collection. All though the last 4 are not the rarest I'm not finding a lot of them in the right grades there are some AU and MS64's and not much in between. My latest submission has been received since

SHOTGUN!

My approach to collecting! ....Hey, pardner, you'd have to type me as a shotgun type of collector. Most certainly when it comes to coins! My lady and myself have two rules when it's about collecting, #1 Collect what you like or enjoy and #2 have a place for it. ....Coins are usually easy to store, just need a large enough safe deposit box or safe. Plus, when can you have to many coins? ....I started collecting the Australia Lunar coins before I even knew about certified coins. I was collec

1878 Indian Head Proof

This is a nice proof I picked up recently. This is a nice 1878 Proof Indian Head Penny graded by PCGS as PF64RD. I enjoy photographing my collection and sharing them with others. I have a Indian Head Cent Proof registry set on NGC and my user name is dean1345. Check them out.

NGC's flying!

Day of reckoning for my Indian Heads fast approaching. NGC's really flying and getting those grades done really quick. I've sent 7 Indian Head half eagles and 1 Indian Head quarter eagle for grading, which were received 26 November and today, 29 November, they are in Quality Control! This is great. I just hope they don't all comeback graded AU or lower. Fingers crossed for MS. Cheers!

STAR

IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER I AM REALLY A SUCKER FOR ORIGINAL SURFACES, NEEDLE-SHARP STRIKE, EXCELLENT LUSTER AND AN ABSENCE OF POST-PRODUCTION MARKS......BUT THEN AGAIN, WHO ISN'T? EYE APPEAL IS SO SUBJECTIVE THAT I CANNOT PUT AN EXACT DEFINITION ON IT. NOW I BOUGHT MY FIRST "STAR" COIN TODAY: 1941S MERCURY DIME, NGC GRADED MS 67*FB. AFTER EXAMINING IT I CAN NOW SAY THAT OUTSTANDING EYE APPEAL IN A COIN SHOULD TRIGGER A REACTION IN THE EYE( AND MIND) OF THE BEHOLDER. WHEN I HOLD THIS CO

It's a short life

Grandfather My grandfather started letting me look at coins at a very young age, he explained them to me and started me out collecting coins in a blue book. From that time on, I have really enjoyed collecting both coins and currency. I have also started my son out the same way. I am going to collect what I can until it?s time to hand them down to my son. Hopefully, he will follow up with his kids some day as well. Thanks for looking

Mystery Coin Contest!!

Test your skill and knowledge and maybe even you could be a winner!! Good evening and welcome to The Mystery Coin Contest. I posted a journal earlier and included a picture of the reverse of a coin. I had a few kind comments, thank you for those, and a few curious members who wanted to know more about the coin. I have included the same picture here. Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to identify the coin by type, date, mint mark, and variety, by only looking at the picture

I'M BUILDING ON MY PROOF MEMORIAL LINCOLN SET

I started this set with the intention of just filling holes with nice coins, but the obvious rarity of some of these has me on a serious hunt. Who would have thought that "modern" proof pennies are rare? I never considered them as even collectable because after all, there's one in every proof set and there's thousands and thousands of those laying around, right? Well when I decided to put together a nice set of proof Memorials, I found out that in top grade Ultra Cameo, some of these things

Rifle or Shotgun?

What is Your Weapon of Choice? Coin collecting can take many forms and styles. When I started collecting, every coin that interested me got a spot in my collection. If there was a hole in a Whitman album for it, I kept it. It did not matter whether it was a penny or a dollar, whether a U.S. coin or foreign coin. Changes in directions occur frequently. Searches for coins are easy. The coins are readily available and attractively priced. I call this the shotgun approach. Knowledge and e

AUSTRALIA LUNAR SERIES?

I didn,t see this one coming! ....Here I sat, Fat, Dumb and Happy! I had completed my goal and now could compete with the big boys. I was tied for 1st Place in the Australia Lunar Series, I would just need one coin a year for the next three years. The 2008-Rat, 2009-OX, and 2010-Tiger then I could just sit back and watch the awards. ....I was so happy, I jumped up on my chair, pounded my chest and called for Jane (actually Mary)! She flew in like a Queen. I said me Clay, you Mary look at our

ONE MORE PL UPGRADE DONE

Found 1899 O PL My new addition for my Morgan's Collection. I purchased two raw Morgans on Ebay. 1899 O and 1900. The 1899 O was GEM DMPL and the 1900 GEM PL. Unfortunately after the grading process the 1900 was certified as a cleaned coin. :-( The 1899 O came back as a MS63PL, I was hoping for more but I am kind of happy with this grade. It was one of PL hard to find in any grade for low budget collector. You can see the reverse in my registry set.

Dean's Indian Head Cent Proof & Type Sets

My dad gave me a 1902 IHC in about good condition when I was 7 years old. That coin mesmerized me and I became hooked for life. I started collecting IHC proofs about five years ago. I have bought proof at coin shows, raw on ebay, teletrade and heritage auctions. The proofs I bought from ebay raw I would submit to NGC for grading. There have been a few that have graded but most part these acquisitions were body bagged. Ebay seems to be a dumping ground for small and large coin dealers. Most of

Today's Local Coin Show in Denver and new purchases

Neither are valuable coins but both deserve plastic! Went to today's local coins show here in Denver metro area. This was my first trip to a local coin show in many years. There were about 30 different sellers. I picked up a couple of raw dimes that will fill holes as placeholders for nicer examples. Pictured below are an 1899 S Barber dime and an 1856-O Seated Liberty dime. I think them worthy so they are headed in for slabbing. The picture is a bit dark but I like the rim color on the Sea

Thanks for looking! and Updating "the Display"

Thanks for viewing my sets! I did a little checking the other day and realized something kinda surprising. Even though my Presidential Dollars set isn't the highest grade (mostly only MS65FD) and even though I only just the other day got the Thomas Jefferson coins (3 months after their release), my set comes in as number 9 out of 343 for having the most views (I'm only in the top 80 by points). This made me both happy and a little embarrased. Until today only the Washingtons were imaged and
