  1. No matter what you do taking a shot of a coin in a 2x2 is hard to see the fields on the coin. The coin is nice but no way to know for sure of the quality with the plastic over it.
  2. I know there are a few of the regulars here that collect some. I do not like them I think they take something away from the real coin. The same way a 5 oz. round does. Not my cup of tea. but some like that stuff.
  3. The Collectors Society is the foundation for each coin individually that are in my registry sets. I use both.
  4. You got a real good deal. I also think this coin looks better in a NGC holder it is a way busy coin in my opinion. This coin was my first graded commemorative. Like JT2, I do my best to shop around. I try to pick up graded coins for below the cost of the slab. I paid $40 for this piece which was a good deal . I should have done a bit more research on the Washington/Carver coin. I now know there are a bunch out there for the picking. I am always hunting for deals and only certain dates seam to retail high and the 1953 S is not one of them. As Sandon said some coins can be sharp in MS 65 this is a nice one that looks like a better coin but will never be worth a whole lot ...Lol
  5. Sorry to hear about Sandon's and your friend.
  6. Sorry to hear about David. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.
  7. I try to buy almost all my coins a 30% of retail if I have to jump to 50% I will if it is a hard to find coin. Now Morgan's in the last year or so have been harder to get in that percent range. I will pass on any coin at 75% except gold that is it's own demon . Now that I am down to the 90's the last 5 Morgan's in my set. I may have to wait a long time or break the rule and pay up. We will see what I can find I am not in a rush.
  8. I picked up a couple coins for the set this weekend. The 59 D is real nice and I think I like the reverse proof, it is the first I have purchased.
  9. Is this another bot post? It is plain to see what the coin says.
  10. If it is cheap like this graded coin I got for $41. I know it is a P but I am sure you can find something like this Bill
  11. The next thing is to search the value of the MS coin you have . Most of the time it is not worth the cost to have it certified unless it is something special.
  12. There is a couple of my area coin and antique stores that has some of these and 1800's copper love tokens and some Civil War tokens. All are cool and all are $$. I like to look but don't know enough to spend any money.
  13. I like to keep a hundred year old coin in my wallet, I am less likely to loose it that way.
  14. 1954 must have been a tough year at the mint ,I see lots of variety's for that year.
  15. I agree with Neo, Like most of us, I try to set standards for my coin purchases. Trying to get the best grade for the best price is key. I will spend a bit more than my 30% rule or settle for a lower grade if my research says it is a hard coin to find. If it is a graded common coin for under $5 always. And Yes, They can be found in MS 64,65 and 66. I also have some coins that I cant believe they were even sent in for grading... and very many I just pass on. Time is on your side if you go slow and look for that just right coin you will be, A happy pigeonman.
  16. This thread is making me wonder if leaving my junky coins to my wife and kids is going to be a problem for them?
  17. Well if you got it from a pawn shop chances are you would not be able to take it back without paying them. So the coin is what it is a good looking MS 66
