  1. This is quite funny because I was just looking at bunch of Denver cents last night for one of my coin books and a1986 D that looked just like this showed up I had to do a double take also.
  2. I found there is no listing for a 1986 D to reference to here http://www.varietyvista.com/01b LC Doubled Dies Vol 2/DDO listing.htm
  3. It looks like a good example of MD or DD like Greenstang said and the shinny coin helps to make it look more dramatic.
  4. Sorry to hear about Hoopster he was a big help around here. My condolences to his family and friends.
  5. I recently picked up a coin that was out of rotation in the holder. I shook the holder and it was loose inside . I kept tapping it in the palm of my hand and rotating it and it turned until it was back to normal again ..LoL
  6. Perhaps last year the humidity was higher than years before. The seal of the holder may also have been compromised by time. It looks like someone was holding the coin by the edge at one time and it just took a long time for it to show up?
  7. A very nice coin, to bad it is just a bit short of MS. Only $23 to grade is cheap no shipping or insurance or extras to pay ?
  8. Welcome Drick6sy19. Sorry to say it looks like a hit to me also. I roll hunt all the time and I see this quite a bit. The metal looks like it was pushed over many years ago like, bsshog said. I do not know of a LIIB chip error ? I have a BIE chip cent that looks almost the same as the one Sandon put up.
  9. I picked up two more good looking 66 coins for the set
  10. Welcome, If you are roll hunting you will find many coins have die cracks. As EagleRJO said, most are common and not worth any extra. I roll hunt all the time and I find some neat stuff and it is fun for me. But finding a Holy Grail coin is unlikely. I have been looking for that 1955 DD and 58 since 1963 with no luck yet. Have fun and soak up the knowledge you will find here it will keep you on the right course.
  11. The coins in the photos look like they are already in holders? Are they store bought or what we call basement slabs?
  12. I have to say most of the time I use the scales is to check 1982 cents roll hunting. The zinc cents can look like copper sometimes. Also checking the Henning's nickel without the marker helps.
  13. Welcome Abigail ....I would not bother to take it to a coin store. If you are going to start collecting coins you will need a scale anyway. Just order one that has at least two decimal points for starters and maybe a Red Book and a loupe to look at coins.
  14. Looks good enough to me. Very nice coin also. I wish I could get the circle but my S8 will only do a circle if I draw it and that never works.
  15. I have many Ike's I like the coin but I am not a big fan of them for collecting. There is just to much surface with many areas that can be damaged. Yes we know it is a S mint mark, I was just stating it just looks like a D on the photo.
  16. Welcome again and yes to all the above it may be only one item or it may be more. Each coin will have it's own history.
  17. Not long ago someone sent in a new 2021 Morgan that was wiped before it was put in the case and left the mint. Or so it was said. It was graded as cleaned.
  18. No whenever I am in town I try to stop there to see the inventory. I am staying at my daughters house outside of Nashville while my motor home is getting a engine replacement in S.C.
  19. Welcome Elithenewguy I roll hunt coins all the time and most are not MS and almost all are not errors but it is still fun to look. I have many coins that are graded in slabs that are well below the cost of grading a coin. Some coins for under $10
