IMO it’s too straight to be a die crack. Not saying it can’t happen, but usually a crack will follow the profile of something along its way and veer one way or another or hit a gap and stop. I do see sections that look like cracks and some that look smooth and bubbled. I say plating issue given the year of the coin and the issues they had with plating during that time. Still have them now. May be a combination of both.

Hey LEM! Yeah, it' been awhile since I've been here on the group and thank you, I'm hanging in there.
The "Squatch"...haha.  It's kinda like: Do you really believe there's a Bigfoot roaming around in the wild...... or, sort of like another 43' Copper that just hasn't surfaced yet???
Trust me.....I really don't believe in that fairytale hairy beast thing 🙄, no more than I believe there's still another 43' Copper yet to be found..... (Hmmmmm.....OR DO I ......???? 🤔:)

Love it JPM! I do need some good laughs these days. Thanks!

As soon as I saw the 1836 Gobrecht Dollar at the top of this post, I said to myself, "That doesn't look right." I am quite sure that it is a counterfeit. Here is a real one which is graded PCGS PR-62, CAC.

Lem E reacted to RWB in Proposal to replace shield nickel design.
This was a pet project of Longacre's. "The design is, of itself, attractive and possesses more character and interest than those actually intended for production. But this was not a coin, it was closer to what is now called a “concept piece” or possibly a “metallic prototype.” Its purpose was to demonstrate a practical use for aluminum in U.S. coinage."   (See my 2022 article "Possible Revised Identification of Judd 561 'Pattern Five Cent' Piece" for details.)

I just counted 53 Top 100s, plus a few others. I have 6 more at NGC getting graded, currently at #18 Top 100 vams registry.
