Thats cool. Haven't dove into Hennings. I have my hands full with the regular nickels. Cool piece though.

No sir. This is a Francis Henning Special. Had he known as much about nickels as you, he would have never had gotten "pinched"
I looked for the void in the R and didn’t think I saw it. Pareidolia on my part with the S. I’m not quite up to speed on my Henning nickels. Is the R marker there?

Very nice. Is that an “S” I am seeing?

This is a topic that comes up EXTREMELY often at ANA shows and committee meetings. “How can we get the online crowd?” I keep telling them “You can’t, and it’s silly to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars trying to.” Trust me, they simply don’t get it! They figure, “We’ve got hundreds of dealers here, where are the collectors?”
What do I need to tell them?
It’s not that I don’t want to go to shows. I just really haven’t had the time to go to any. Over the past 2 years I have averaged 70 to 75 hrs a week at work and all of it has been mandatory OT. Hell I barely have time to mow the yard much less do any traveling, not to mention that it kicked me up a tax bracket. (Hope you enjoy my money IRS.) I do want to hit a big show at some point though. Maybe Florida FUN in January. It has to be nicer than Illinois weather down there. St. Louis area would be a feasible trip for me. Any good shows in that area? It’s closer to me than Chicago.

We could probably have a mile long thread of bad listings. Some are quite humorous. I saw a Bob Evans coin the other day and the description said “MS62 condition - moderately circulated”
They wanted $2k or some ridiculous amount for it as usual.

Toning, for me, is impossible to get perfect. Mine come out way more muted than it is in hand. I’ve tried everything and the dang slabs reflecting light make it almost impossible. On the other hand many sellers seem to max out saturation and vibrance and it in no way reflects the coin. It’s the downside of online buying, but like it or hate it, it’s here to stay.
I think I was expecting more from the coin than I should have. I usually have pretty good luck when I buy and am happy with the coin in hand. There have been several times that the coin is much better than I thought it would be. It would be nice to be able to see the coin in person before a purchase, but I am pretty well locked into buying online. I just don’t have the opportunity to go to shows and there isn’t a good LCS anywhere near me.

That’s the thing about this coin. It looks much better in the seller pics than it does in hand. The first pics are more accurate. I wasn’t expecting vivid rainbow colors or anything, but thought there would be subtle hints of pink on the reverse and the luster isn’t quite as good. It does have pretty clean surfaces. I have had this coin for a while. Just got the pics back from Joe a few weeks ago. It is a nice coin overall but sometimes pics can fool you. @Hoghead515 your prize is that warm fuzzy feeling of being right.
Thanks all.

Ok here it is. These are the original seller pics. It really isn’t a bad looking coin, just not what I was after for the set I’m building. Decent luster and pretty clean overall. Was hoping for a bit more color other than brown and yellow. Maybe “bad buy” was a little harsh. Thanks all for the responses.

Maybe an Improper Alloy Mix issue?
I wondered about this when I first saw it.

Very nice Mr.Bill. Same packaging as last year. I’m still waiting on mine. They sent me a shipping notice on the 14th, but the tracking info says USPS still waiting to get the package.

I didn't even read the OP's comments, until just now.
Is it the small spot on the obverse?
As long as the coin is stable; I think that is trivial.
No, the spot doesn’t really bother me. The seller pics fooled me into thinking it had some color to it. Most of the time the color is hidden in pics and the coin is usually better in hand. Not the case with this one. Complete opposite.

The last two books I bought were both on large cents. The first was by Newcomb and the other was by Grellman. They are both similar in content dealing with variety attribution. I feel like Grellmans book is a little more user friendly, and then I use Newcombs book to help verify. I have only used it to attribute one coin so far with my large cent collection sitting at a whopping 2 coins. (One was already attributed, but I did verify with the books.) I do hope to grow my large cent collection in the future.

That is SOOOOOO AMAZING!
In all seriousness, my proof set is on the way. I buy one on subscription to break up and put the coins in my Dansco albums. I’ll be looking over the quarters for design choices.
I knew someone would appreciate my mundane observations.

So these are real genuine coins? Same weight and silver content? I’ve never been to a coin show, so not familiar with these at all.
It is a real coin. Mine is kind of beat up. I believe this show was canceled due to covid. I bought it from ebay for $10.

Most likely a sample slab from a coin show. Usually has a lower grade coin inside and given away at a show or event. Generally for marketing. Welcome to the forum by the way.

A very fun, very worn "Jefferson Nickel"

Just curious, what does it weigh?
