I would say this is a 1855 Liberty Seated quarter. The S mintmark looks too small though. This could be a fake or altered coin. The coin is so damaged that I can’t tell if there is or was a motto at one point. I might be wrong on the date. Sorry.

They are just hits most likely from the reeding of another coin hitting it when they were being ejected from the presses and falling into the bins. Could also be some type of post mint damage (PMD).

Im going to edit it and put it on my description in a couple days. It will be a cool little story about why John Flanagan's design was chosen for people whos never heard it yet. If people even take the time to read those things. I find them interesting and read the ones who decide to add them to theirs. Im sure a few others do to. Old John almost didnt get his design on there. If it werent for Andrew Mellon. My personal opinion I like his design way more than Frashers. Frashers was pretty much chozen for it originally. Also some cool information is it was originally intended to be on the half dollar. Most collectors probably already know this but some probably dont. I just want to pep my registry set up a bit and add that soon for the ones who like reading that kind of stuff. Gives me something to do and helps me learn while Im doing it.
I learned a ton of stuff doing the research for the descriptions for each coin in my set.

I looked it up. Of the 19 known Sac/State Quarter mules, a guy named Tommy Bolack owns 16 of them.
He must be a wealthy man.

Isn’t one dude cornering the market on those mules?
No idea. Way out of my league.

Several of the US ones are super rarities also. Wont be able to collect them all. But can some.
I think that set would be almost impossible to finish and you would need some serious $$$ to do it. I mean, how many of those 2000 Sac mules are out there? Just a crazy set.

I’m not really seeing how this is that much different than the Sheldon scale. Both have 29 “grades” or levels if you exclude the plus and star grades. Seems if you compare both scales they aren’t really different aside from the language used. A grade of 1 is still the equivalent of a PO 1. It wouldn’t surprise me to see plus and star grades with this new scale as well. Maybe I am missing something here.
