Greenstang got a reaction from Alex in PA. in Nice rim job
I was just going to say basically the same thing as Oldhoopster. Do not treat it as an error first, treat it as damage and then see if there is anything that would warrant it being an error. As there is no way that could happen during the striking of the coin, the alternative is PMD.
You may never find out exactly how it happened unless you were there but it doesn’t really matter, damage is damage.

There is a mint tolerance of +- .19 g on nickels so your nickel is underweight by .01g

Greenstang got a reaction from GBrad in 2004 D ms 65 Keelboat struck on improperly annealed planchet
Thanks Coinbuf, don’t know where “quarter” came from. I guess I can’t blame this on spellcheck.

Greenstang got a reaction from Mohawk in Error or damage
RJoe
For future reference, it can only be an error if it happens during the actual striking of the coin so ask yourself, how could anything of what you see on your coin happen at that time. The obvious answer is that there isn’t anything so the alternative is PMD, no matter how it happened.

Not quite sure what you are referring to but all I see is worn and corroded Lincoln Cent.
In the future, please crop and rotate your photos, it makes it easier for us to help you.

Greenstang got a reaction from RonnieR131 in doesnt look real
Definitely a counterfeit. Just one of many on eBay although this one looks like it it supposed to represent an Off Centre Strike.
Read sellers description, sometimes they will admit that it s just a copy.

Greenstang got a reaction from Oldhoopster in 1986 penny
That second ring on the Obverse is called a "Ridge Ring" caused by Die Deterioration.
If your coin is that colour, then yes, it would be considered red

Greenstang got a reaction from Alex in PA. in Uncirculated Coins
What coin are you sending in? You do realise that unless it is worth at least $150.00, the cost of grading does not justify getting it graded.
