Greenstang got a reaction from R__Rash in Doubled Die? Help my identify
I know at first it is sometimes hard to distinguish between MD and DD. It took a while for me to catch on until one day it finally clicked and I have had no problem ever since. Here is a little chart I put together for someone on another Forum. It is pretty basic.

Greenstang got a reaction from R__Rash in You get what you got !
Thanks for the reverse picture. Makes it much easier.
Too me it looks like a counterfeit 1818 Coronet Head Large Cent.

Greenstang got a reaction from GBrad in 2020 D Roosevelt Dime Double DIY?
Welcome to the Chat Box
Terminology correction- It is called a Doubled Die, also referred to as DD.
Don’t really see any DD, certainly not worth spending about $50.00 on getting it graded

Greenstang got a reaction from Hoghead515 in 1982 D Small date copper penny
It looks like it ha Split Plate Doubling around the edge which would make it a zinc cent.
-
Greenstang got a reaction from Mohawk in Brass coin
Out of curiosity, why do you think it is worth getting graded.
It would cost you over $50.00 for a 3 cent coin.

Greenstang got a reaction from James Zyskowski in 1983-P Quarter Spitting Eagle?
I would say no. The Die Clash is more prominent than what your quarter shows.

Greenstang got a reaction from rrantique in It's Token Tuesday! Post 'em if you got 'em.
A newer token issued in 1975 to commemorate the death of Jimmy Sibbeston, guide and hunter who died in 1974 at the age of 103.He was the oldest resident of Hay River NWT at the time of his death.

Greenstang got a reaction from Mohawk in I found a 2002 D penny that looks aluminum and is oversized
That is what is known as a Texas Coin. That is not aluminum, that is the zinc core that has had the copper plating removed. It is intentionally done and has no added value.

Greenstang got a reaction from Alex in PA. in Scull in 51 penny
Not an error, it’s called Pareidolia, seeing something that’s not there.

Greenstang got a reaction from Alex in PA. in Nice rim job
I was just going to say basically the same thing as Oldhoopster. Do not treat it as an error first, treat it as damage and then see if there is anything that would warrant it being an error. As there is no way that could happen during the striking of the coin, the alternative is PMD.
You may never find out exactly how it happened unless you were there but it doesn’t really matter, damage is damage.

Greenstang got a reaction from Oldhoopster in 1939 Nickel 4.80 g ?
There is a mint tolerance of +- .19 g on nickels so your nickel is underweight by .01g

Greenstang got a reaction from Sharann in 1993 D Close AM ??
I have shown this chart before but will show it again.
Copy this and you will know at a glance what to look for.
As you can see, there are only 4 different years you have to look for.

Greenstang got a reaction from GBrad in 2004 D ms 65 Keelboat struck on improperly annealed planchet
Thanks Coinbuf, don’t know where “quarter” came from. I guess I can’t blame this on spellcheck.

Greenstang got a reaction from Mohawk in Error or damage
RJoe
For future reference, it can only be an error if it happens during the actual striking of the coin so ask yourself, how could anything of what you see on your coin happen at that time. The obvious answer is that there isn’t anything so the alternative is PMD, no matter how it happened.
