Greenstang got a reaction from Modwriter in Filled in mint marks
He was looking for a sucker. Filled in D and P mm are known as broken posts and have little or no premium. There would be 100’s of thousands of them out there. If the post broke off half way through a run, you would have as many filled in mm as you would have regular mm

Greenstang got a reaction from Coinbuf in Jefferson Nickel
This is the Registry Forum, have requested that it be moved.
Your coin has been exposed to acid or some other form of corrosion so it is PMD.
Coinbuf beat me by seconds, glad our answers are basically the same.

Greenstang got a reaction from JT2 in Good shape?
Cleaning this coin would not hurt the value anyways as it is only worth the price of the copper so go ahead and clean it if you like. I have cleaned coins only worth face value for my granddaughters collection as she likes her coins “shiny”.

Greenstang got a reaction from Crruisercharlie in 1914 D Cent
My opinion is that it is a 1944 modified to look like a 1914 so ungradeable.

At least it didn’t cost you anything.
Feel free to post photos of any other of the coins you have questions about.

Of course it’s possible. Have seen quite a few of these.
All you have to do is remove the angled and cross stroke from a 4 to make it look like a 1. Only problem is that by doing that , the 1 is no longer centered between the 9 and 4. Also the mm is not in a recognized location for a 1914 cent. Hope that you didn’t buy this.

Greenstang got a reaction from KarenHolcomb in Just another plated penny question
It’s been plated with something, sometimes they were plated with mercury or nickel as high school experiments.

Greenstang got a reaction from KarenHolcomb in what happen to it?
It doesn’t really matter the cause of the damage. The fact that this could not have happened during the striking of the coin is all that is needed to know. Damage is damage.

Welcome to the forum.
As stated, pictures and weight (2 decimal points) are a must before anyone can help you.
-
Greenstang got a reaction from JT2 in Can anyone explain......
Your last sentence is almost correct
”Or is this just another CENT”
That couldn’t happen during the striking of the coin at the mint so it is PMD. Value 1 cent.

Greenstang got a reaction from Oldhoopster in 1965 90% silver quarter????
Your new picture shows the copper core so it can’t be silver.
If you get a new scale, make sure it is accurate to at least two decimal points.

Welcome to the Forum
The missing P is caused by a partial grease filled die.
The mm is either damaged or also partially filled, hard to tell which, neither of which add any value but you can keep it for reference if you like.

Greenstang got a reaction from JT2 in 1991 D Lincoln Cent that is missing the L in LIBERTY
Not really although someone might give you a small premium if they collect these.
Minor greasers are just too common to be worth much over face value.

Greenstang got a reaction from RonnieR131 in 1982 US Quarter error
I'm gettin better! 😊
Glad to see that you are willing to learn and not just rely on everyone else to do the work for you. This hobby is a lot more fun when you can identify some of the many forms of damage and errors for yourself. Keep on replying to the different questions, it is a good way to teach yourself. State what you thing the right answer is, if your right, great, if your wrong, (and don't worry about being wrong, everyone is once in a while) you will learn the correct answer for the next time.
