    Possibly a fire
Many times it's difficult to firmly establish the cause of PMD.  However, if you study and learn the minting process, you'll easily recognize that it would be impossible for a coin like this to leave the mint in that condition.

I do have a couple of dozen Thai coins, but now I wonder about die cracks. I wonder how many strikes later it all went to pieces.

Hey Fellows! How's everyone been? Lots of life changes for me the past couple of years so I've sold pretty much all my stuff trying to get up out of a hole, but I do still have and never lost my interest in the Coin and I'm sure to have that for life. It is still a great escape for me.
All that said, a very old friend stopped by just after trading yada, yada for Yada+a bag of World Coins, which he wound up just giving to me. I know Errors aren't much worthy with World Coins, and this Coin is way wore out to Boot but not so wore out that you can't see ALL those Cracks everywhere all over the Coin. I was amazed by it, but nobody has shown much interest. But you know what? I don't care. I do know that this Coin blows the reference Coin for a Shattered Die on error-ref out of the water and into the next hemisphere. Lol! So I know it's a super cool example.
Have a look see and tell me what you think. Thanks for still being here for me.

Hi guys! Idky that original thread wouldn't allow me to respond any more, but here is the answer I finally got about those Perth Mint Isle of Man Aircraft of WWII Coins I have that many of us were discussing whether they were Silver or CuproNickel. Turns out all this time my Son had a larger capacity postage scale that didn't go into overload when a cup of water was set on it, so I was able to try, and master, the Specific Gravity Test. Oooooo...Aaaahhhhh...lol!
And the answer to this long awaited question is....drum roll please...do it...CUPRONICKEL!!!!! And I'm not even upset about it. I am just absolutely thrilled to finally know what the heck they are. Right?!
I even made 8 very short, equalling 9 minutes, videos of the entire process in case y'all think it would be beneficial to post them. Otherwise there's an upload of my results in this thread.
I'm just so darn proud of myself, and if it weren't for you guys right here in this forum id have never even heard of Specific Gravity much less run the tests myself. I really feel like you all have increase my knowledge greatly and for that I thank you from the bottom of my teensy heart.
That last listed one is an old Sternwheel Regatta Token from a festival we used to have here, and I believe my results say it is indeed silver. I never dreamt it would be.

KarenHolcomb reacted to Conder101 in Copper cent weight difference need to be and error
You misunderstood me, the tolerance IS .13 grams, but until the weight is about .4 gram out of the tolerance range it will not normally command any significant premium.  A cent the weighs  say 3.26 grams is out of tolerance and is technically an error but it isn't worth anything.  A cent that weighs 3.55 grams, about .3 grams outside the tolerance range would be worth a small premium.  But get the weight to 3.65 gramsor more and the premiums will start to become significant.

Many millennials feel the same way about the word “moist”. For me, it’s “vibrant rainbow toning”. Oops, I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.

    @Just Bobno. It is not.
@J P Mashokeok. I was hopeful. Lol! Cause I never find anything great.
@CoinbufI see what you're saying. I was thinking more of the ERIC, but that doesn't float either. I know you guys are correct. I was just hoping...
@OldhoopsterThat was what I was hoping for was a rotation in there somewhere. I couldn't figure how that could have happened, but was hopeful.

Ok guys. I am satisfied. Thanks for being patient with me. -Karen

KarenHolcomb reacted to Coinbuf in 1982 Rim Restricted Design Duplication?
Vice job, another coin (or object) was pressed into the rim and left an impression.   Copper/zinc is soft and that can be done without damaging the rim on the other side.   A Rim Restricted Design Duplication results in the design being raised on the rim, from the photos your coin appears to be incuse on the rim.

Boy, it sounds like he really can pick them!! And that makes sense.....I remember hearing about the Back Page thing on the news a while back.  Like I said....this kind of stuff always finds a way.  My criminal justice acquaintances certainly taught me that!!

To answer your question: Because it's not a variety and it is not a doubled die. You have here what is called Push Doubling.  It is a worthless form of machine doubling.  In addition, the mint mark on your coin has suffered a hit and flattened it.  This is not a variety by any means and worth 1 cent (actually about 3 cents due to the cost of copper....).

I don't doubt that this is true, actually.  The lengths that people will go to in order to conduct illegal activities for monetary gain are astounding!! And as someone who has known their share of criminal justice students during their time as a student, I know that criminals often develop their own lingo and codes.  While the village I live in is quite nice, the town a couple towns over from it (and closer to a major metropolis known for some sketchy folks) is sleazy as all hell. All kinds of sketchy motels from the '50s and '60s that are now run down and attract some shady types.  You're always hearing about prostitution busts over there on the news.  It's crazy!!! And they've caught clergy members, teachers, local and state politicians, prominent business people.....all sorts of walks of life you wouldn't necessarily expect in these stings.  The crazy thing to me is that they've had so many stings and people still go there to procure the services of prostitutes!  Not to mention all of the other consequences of this activity as well......*sigh*.  I don't understand why people do things they do a lot of the time.
