You make a good point but
I agree with some of the things Jason says about ebay but not all ebay dealers are bad coin dealers. There are some really good honest people out there like for one person i deal with from iceland. I won this coin i sent for gradeing for a two day service and it came back to me about two weeks later go figure with the hurricane. well the seller took back the coin and gave me the $50 bucks for the gradeing cost now this is a ebay dealer that has a wonderfull way to do business with people that buy from them this is a rarety in the ebay world, now im not saying in anyway this happens every day thier are dealers that have other people bid up the coins for them how many people you think bid on icelandic coins on ebay only a few and i know most of them. When people out of nowhere show up to did on coins from iceland that has never bided on iceland coins something is wrong here. So i understand what he is saying but you got to know who you are dealing with.

I Have Searched For Nearly Seven Years
    Hello Everyone
After looking for seven years for a 1925 2 Kronur coin that was anything better then a VF may have come to light. About just a little over a month ago i got a email from Brunn Rasmussen Auction House in Denmark, Well I have been getting these notices for six years now and none of there auctions never held any Icelandic coins that I wanted until this one.
With no thought of finding any thing in the auction I lazily browsed the catalog and came up to a listing stating that they had a 1926 2 Kronur a few other Icelandic coins and some danish commemoratives, Well there is no 1926 2 Kronur they must have meant a 1929. Well I clicked the listing and then the picture and they had a zoom in feature so I zoomed on to the 2 Kronur thinking it would be a 29 and HOLY-SH*TTTTT its a 1925 and it looked great, But the only problem was that they only showed one side of all the coins, well for a month up till this passed Sunday I checked 2 or 3 maybe more like 6 or 7 time each day waiting to be outbidded, I even got up early Sunday morning to make sure no one outbid me well to make a long story short I won the lot for 100 Danish Kronur under estimate. Well now comes the other waiting game for them to ship it to me. The coin looks to be possibly a AU so my fingers are crossed while waiting for the mail.

IF ONLY I COULD FIND A 1933 25 AURAR IN UNC
On July 29Th I seen the results of my submission of a Icelandic 1925 25 Aurar and was happy to see that my coin was given a MS-64 grade, But was hoping for a 65. Its more about the coin then the grade when it comes to rarity, This is the only one I have come across in the 6+ years I have been assembling this set of Kingdom Era coins from Iceland. So how can I complain about a single point....NOT, As my teenage daughter would put it. Now if only I can find a 1933 25 Aurar that would grade even a MS-60 I would be happier then a pig in the mud, Well a 64 would be better.

    Hard Times
We live in uncertain times that can be very scary for many of us and praying for good fortune is not something uncommon for any one of us, we all have done this in the past for many reasons we can not even fathom. So what he asked for your prays, He was just reaching out for help, For what ever reason he had. When I first read his journal about this I thought to myself that it was odd to ask people to pray that he gets 70's on some if not all of the coins he submitted to NGC and then a few moments later figured that he must be in some financial need for him to post a journal for prays about these coins.
Well I would almost call ourselves a brotherhood of the Society and we should try to not jump on other members because of personal differences or believes and try to understand were they are coming from. And if you don't know what a member is saying ...why not ask them yourself instead of jumping to the wrong conclusion.
We all have our own hardships so lets not take it out on other members of the collectors society.
I wish you all good health, fortune and happiness

    Just Checked NGC POP Report
Now After reading the new report for coins graded by NGC for Iceland. I became depressed over what I seen .....A complete set of 1940 proof coins which I have been searching for in the past six years of collecting Icelandic coins from the Kingdom Era 1926-1942. NGC had at one Time graded all but the 1 Eyrir before I started this collection and hoped that they would show up at some point, that never came. Last year in July a 1940 and a 1946 proof sets came up for auction in Australia from one of the mint's collection that the London mint had given them at the time of there minting as well as other UK mints for there collections. Well besides the five UK mints and the two sets of each sets in the Icelandic museum there are not many more around. I bidded on the two sets from last July.... but sadly didn't win them ,but two months later the same sets showed up at a coin firm in Australia which now wants some really crazy amount of money for them, We are talking about 3,000.00 A.U. Dollars for each coin which is about over 14,000.00 U.S.D. After seeing the 1940's set graded I checked with the coin firm and saw that there set was still for sale, So where did this new set come from. I shore would like to know. and If they are for sale. Another thing is that I have not been working much this past winter and the funds for these coins are non-existing right now. There are only a few coins left for me to find to complete my set and to see two Set's come by in the past year and not being able to acquire them is very depressing for sure. The Heart Aches of Coin Collecting......Can be very Depressing.

Result's of The NCS/NGC Submission of Icelandic Proofs 1958 to 1962
First i would like to share my lose of my mother on January 31 of 2010 from cancer. We had a beautiful funeral for her with so many people attending that i didn't have a clue to who some of them were. I felt the need to share this in my journal because it was my mother who first sparked a interest in coins by giving me a old silver standing liberty quarter back in the mid-60's. She was born in Iceland on December 11, 1934 and came here to the U.S. in July of 1960 after marring my Step father.

I submitted five proof coins to NCS to go to NGC for grading and I was very pleased of the results of my submission. They all had a film on them and a few had spots. Well NCS did a beautiful job of conserving them and was a bit surprised of some of the grade's I was given. Below is a list of the grades I received.
    1958 5 Aurar PF-63RB
    1957 10 Aurar PR-68 Cameo
    1957 1 Krona PR-64 Cameo
    1963 1 Krona PR-63
    1962 2 Kronur PR-64
These coins are very rare and like i said in my previous post only 10 to 15 of each was ever minted and was not meant for the public but only to visiting VIPs. the 0ny disappointing part of this submission was that NGC would not place the name of the Icelandic Bank Director on the slab. I had acquired the coins with the help of a friend and the Icelandic Numismatic museum director from the Thor Family in Iceland even thou I had a letter from the museum director stating these facts.
Well happy collecting to you all and I hope you find the coins of your dreams,
P.S. I just got another Icelandic proof a 1954 25 Auar which looks very good, it may even get a Cameo destination.
Those of you that would like to see these coins look up the certification numbers for 3375335-001 to 006. There is a 1929 10 Auar that was thrown in with the submission. Let me know what you think of them.
    Thanks again

    Back from NCS/NGC
I checked my USPS tracking number this morning and my 5 proof coins are coming home to me today. After reading a recent journal by davidk about going postal I became a little worried about the post office losing my coins but was very happy and relieved to see that I'm getting them back this morning. These coins are very rare (10 to 15 minted for each) but not expensive. They can range from $70 to $125 dollars for impaired proofs and up to 3 to 4 times that in BU condition. I'm very happy with the results from NCS/NGC, Two of the coins which I payed 2x impaired price for came back with the cameo designation. The results from my submission are.
    1957 10 Aurar Proof-68 Cameo....OH WOW..
    1957 1 Krona Proof-64 Cameo... WOW
    1958 5 Aurar Proof-63 ....Great
    1962 2 Kronur Proof-64....Great.. Have one in 66
    1963 1 Kronur Proof 63....Great
All I need to complete a proof set is the 1 Eyrir, Then I would have one of each for this time period. I have a 1954 25 Aurar being sent to me right now as we speak
The 1940 and 1946 set is almost impossible to find. Both sets did come up for auction last year in july from a museum collection but I did not have the money to out bid the other bidders.
Thank you for reading my journal and I wish all of you the good fortune I had in the past year in finding your special coins

    My Icelandic coin Collection
Well its been a very interesting year for my collection of Icelandic coins. First, I found out that the 1939 1 Eyrir really had three different varieties for this date which I found the last one about two months ago, KM only states that there are only two. Second, I found a later die state repunched 9 of 29 for the 1929 10 aurar in a real nice unc. Third, A wonderful 1946 2 Kronur with great mint luster just like the day it was minted well maybe the next day. this type of coin is all most impossible to find like this. And Finally my best bunch is the 5, Yes 5 proof Icelandic coins dated from 1958 to 1963. Now these are the ones that are so impossible to find considering that they only produced somewhere between 10 to 15 for each year and denominations and this little bit of info came from a man in Iceland that works for the numismatic museum there. I was told that they only made these for visiting government people to the mint in London from Iceland. This same man also brokered the purchase of two of these proofs coins from the family of a former Bank director that served the national bank for many years The remaining three other proofs came from my other sources in Iceland. These five proofs have yet to be graded and will be sent to NCS first then to NGC. And I also found some nice other Icelandic coins to add to my collection as well but this are the main coins worth mentioning here.
Well I hope everyone had a great year of collecting and I wish everyone a Happy Holiday and a great new years

    unfortunatly it is
The way things are going for may collectors in todays economy people have to sell thier collections. Well if you are one of the people that have not been affected then its time to buy. But if you are looking to invest in coins then thier is a time proven way of doing this and that is to invest in the U.S. major key date coins. I have read many articals and books over the fourty years of collecting and the best is your key dates these have over the years have proven to be your best investment for the long run. and remember the new stuff like the 70's graded coins are a fade and truly will never make you money unless you are the one to sell them I did get one for $125 and sold it a year and half later for $990 so I used the money to buy the tuff coins in my collection.

    Cleaning coins
Its been a while since my last boring journal about Icelandic coins. This time its about the cleaning of coins. First NCS does not clean coins. That is a term that was used by people years back to describe coins that has been cleaned in someway that is dedectable at first glance.
I have been around coins for over fourty years and I have seen some beautiful coins in my time. Many years back before cleaning became a issue a number of dealers I new all told me that 90% of the silver coins saved in the collections 30 to 40 years ago was dipped at one time or another, But was done in a non-detectable manner by people who knew how to. Think about it they were storard in wooden cabnets, sulfur type paper, etc etc. Do you think that a morgun dollar or any other silver coin can possible go for over hundred twenty five years without toning just a little bit or without spots, no I dont think so. I would bet my collection that all of us has a dipped coin in a slab from one of the top four graders.
Their is nothing wrong with people getting coins conserved when it needs it, at least the coin is being conserved correctly and not by some shaddy person in a basement. NCS had the B**l's to bring this wonderful service to us knowing that many people will attack them saying that they clean coins comparing them with the basement coin cleaners of the past.
If I'm not mistaken one or more of the people that started NGC was a partner or worked for pcgs years ago. maybe that is why pcgs will give your coin in a NGC holder a bum sticker so to say.
Im sure some of you will disagree with me but I dont care I know what I know and thats what really matters.

    Make a Report
I would make a report to the police and give them the cert# numbers and call all the coin shops in a hundred mile or more radias and tell them the numbers as well you never know they might just show up. I hope you find them.

    So very sorry.
I am so very very sorry for your lose of your son. This would not have beeen something that i ever would have expected to read in the journals today. You must be a very strong person to be able to share your terrible lose with your fellow collectors. Please accept my most sincere condolences to you and your family. The coin you picked is a beautiful coin for your son. I'm sure he will love it.

    That's a journal entree
Well I must say that PSL journal entree was one of the most interesting one I have reading in a long time. It showed to me what the journals are really meant for, the study of numismatics. I commend him and I hope more people will bring these types of numismatics journals to this forum. I would love to hear more stories like this. Its what makes it all worth while. Thanks PSL Keep it coming

Don Quixote wrote me and just insulted me why?
Well just got a email from member Don Quixote and he asked me why i talked bad about the seller of that Adams Proof 70 spouse coin last week. I really didnt say anything bad about the seller ( is the seller maybe you ) Well he told me to get a life and i was jealous. Now that was not very nice of you to say that to another member that was only looking out for their follow members and the pictures was very very suspicious they were doctored up or should i say made up, and with all the talk in the coin community about BAD Ebay Sellers and fake slabs going around what the h**l are we to do. So I accepted your apology weather you gave me one or not after reading this journal and have a good life. or at lest try to.

    Rim looks the same
I just compared the two slabs side by side and if you look at the outer rim of both slabs you will see that they are exactly the same now what are the chance of that and it seems like just the inner parts from the rim has been changed and now their is the matter of the numbers being the same?????

You all need to read this
This past week i wrote about the 1929 1 Krona pcgs coin I won last friday on Ebay Live Auction. Well for those who read the last journal on this coin should know and everybody else, that when i was watching this coin being bidded on, it when to $460.00 and according to Ebay thats what i won it for. I even got a statment from ebay stating that i won this coin for that amount of money. Well the other day i got the invoice from the auction house and the invoice said i won this coin for $250.00 dollars. I called them and asked them if that was correct and they said it was and they even double checked and that was the amount. So for those who will bid on Ebay Live Auctions should know is that there system is a bit messed up, I mean i was looking at the coin and everything on the page stated it was up and being bidded on. So those of you that will be bidding in the future You better be careful. You may not know what you are bidding on.

Came in the mail today and the refund for the other
I won a Iceland 2 Kronur coin a few weeks ago and when i received it in the mail last week it looked not so good, maybe it was some kind of scan that made it look so much better then it really was and to mention how good i thought it might be i payed nearly 80 dollars for it, krause book list it at $15. Well saw another one last week that i liked and the seller took a real good pic's of this coin and what i liked about this one was it looked to have cartwheel luster to it and for only $15. well got that one in the mail today and it looks great and the refund also was in the mail today. Moral of this story is, When you bid on coins on ebay make sure the picture is a good one and not a scan.

It was getting a little nerve racking
I put a absentee bid on Ebay for the 1929 1 krona and watched it live on Ebay ready to bid again if it went over that amount i placed. The scary part was when i placed my cursor on the bid now button it went to the (I) form which, i think meant that i was not going to be able to bid again NOOOOOoooooo. But it didn't reach my maximum bid . I am truly a coin junkie I always knew i was. anyone out there got a Valium. Well I hope everyone out there has good luck finding and getting the coins you are looking for.

    Do They Keep Blank Die's
I think that the Copenhagen Mint must have stored unfinished dies at their mint. If you were to look at a group of lets say 2 Aurar's from the 30's that will consists of the 3 known variates of the 1938 2 Aurar. They are the open 8, half open or top of the 8 is filled in and the closed 8 which is both top and bottom of the 8 is filled in. And then the 1940 type 1 Copenhagen minted 2 Aurar, London minted the same year later in the year. The years on the coin is separated by the crown on top of the coin. Well lets get back to the reason for this journal. The 1 and 9 of the years in question are coincident in size and uniformity and the last two digit's of the years are irregular in shape and sometimes in size and can be rather crude all together. Like in the 1940 type I 2 Aurar the 40 in the year looks like it was engraved by grammar school child .If anyone has any info or knows of any book that may shed more light on this subject, will be most appreciated I can't down load the pic right now but will try again later. Thanks for reading my journal.

    Beautiful, Ain't they
Well i was able to post the picture of one of the coins. Here is the other one. I had forgotten to mention that the names of the counrties are near the bottom of the coin where it appears to be a sea with the name of Iceland, Greenland and Faroe Islands in it ,but spelled in Danish. This two coins (Piastre) wore not meant to be legal coinage for these countries but meant to be used in Danish trade in the Far East. I hope you all find the coins you are looking for, just wish i had the money to buy this coins. Well thank you all for reading my journals and i hope you enjoyed them.

  23. Iceman
    Well found them $$$ WOW
When i started this Icelandic coin collection I read about two coins that bared the name of iceland on it ( Island,Islan ). And also read that these wore very rare coins. Being the optimist i am at that time i said to my self, i will find them some day and put them in my collection. Well low and behold I didbut not in my collection. What a shock it was to find them, Well these coins wore struck in Copenhagen. Denmark for the years 1771 and 1777. But are very pricey. NGC Graded these two coins for the Ira and Larry Goldberg ,Millenium Collection that will be auctioned off this April. Well if you want to see this coins go to thier web site and click on the Greenland coins not the Danmark coins why ! I dont know, I guess that is the way they listed Them .I will try to post a picture of one of this coins and if successful I will post the other coin in the next journal.

    1940 OR BUST
Coins from Iceland are not as easy to find in mint state as you may think for the year of 1940. The denominations of 1 Eyrir, 2 Aurar, 10 Aurar and the 25 Aurar are not as hard as the 5 Aurar, and the 1 Krona and 2 Kronur. Not that the lower denominations are easy. The 2 Aurar has two mintage's one at the Copenhagen mint (then became nazi occupied)Copenhagen mint of 257,280 and then the London mint at 1 million coins for the 1940 2 Aurar. The most difficult of this year is the 5 Aurar and the 1 and 2 Krona coins. The 5 Aurar with a mintage of 1 million coins , I have only found 1 with enough red in it that it might grade a red or red brown but is it a mint state coin. this is the best one i have found so far. Like the 2 Aurar the 1 Krona has two types one being the Copenhagen mint with a mintage of only 209,495 and the London mint with mintage of 715,000 for the year of 1940 and both are hard to find in good mint state grade. I have the 1940 Type 1 with good luster but is it a unc? I would be very happy with it being a AU-58 like the Type 2; 1 Krona I have in a ngc slab. Now comes what would properly be the hardest one yet for this series is the 1940 2 Kronur with the mintage of only 546,000 coins. I have two but at best they are in ex-fine condition nothing worth sending to NGC. The 1940 2 Kronur are so much harder to find the key dates for this coins. I spend a lot of time on the computer searching the net for Icelandic coin and coin auction archives and not to forget Ebay, not once have i seen anyone offer a 1940 2 Kronur in mint state for sale or ever been sold. Like U.S. coins with high mintages and higher price tag for UNC coins, there just is not any around to be had. Now I have in two PCGS slabs a 1940 1 Krona and a 1940 2 Kronur Specimen coins. now only a hand full of this specimens wore struck and that was for the some 4 or 5 museums in the British empire Thank you for reading my journal and i hoped you enjoyed it.
