Proberly one of the few countries that has a very small amount of coins minted (that is not enough) for a population of less then 250,000 residence of this small island country in the middle of the north atlantic ocean. Another words thier just wasn't enough coins to go around.
Well this is my first entry in this journal, since I first joined the collectors society over a year and a half ago. I started to collect Icelandic coins around four years ago. since only having a paupers pocket with a kings taste, well I had to get away from U.S. coins and as well as really liking only the very early stuff. Just made it so much harder to collect when all you want is the perfect coin. So i sold all the U.S. Stuff and started to pay all my bills Not that they were worth alot of money but it took care of a large part of what i owed. Well to get to the point or moral of the story, icelandic coins can be very hard to obtain in unc condition for early coins and to get really nice ones that would grade anywhere near MS-65 maybe as hard as obtaining the 1913 V nickel and in comparsing just as pricey. So even though icelandic coins are much cheaper they can be very hard to find in truly nice unc condition you will properly have to pay a very good buck for them. Like one of my latest icelandic coin I got at the Ponterio Auction this weekend at the 2008 New York show. But I must say this, if there is a perfect coin of this year (1925 1 Krona) I might just have it now. It is truely a beauitful coin. And sometime in the near future it will be sent to NGC for grading.

Is It better to remove the tiny spot or not
From my last entry of my journal I mentioned a coin a 1925 1 krona that was in beautiful unc condition. what i failed to say is that this coin even though it has a wonderful chartwheel, but seems a little dull to me and i think that maybe a little conservation may help it along to a possible MS-66 and or better. And having a brass coin from Iceland that I sent to NGC last summer for grading that came back a MS-62 with note attached to it saying that this coin is a good candidate for conservation and knowing that the coin is much much better then a MS-62 maybe a 65 or better . now mind that this coin is a commemorative and never was placed in circulation, they are very tough on grading of Icelandic coins and medals. I also found another coin at the New york show this pasted weekend it nearly knocked me over when I took It out of its white 2x2 envelope It was a 1937 25 Aurar It was like a sparkling diamond, never seen such a bright 25 Aurar in my life. Buttttt, It has a very very tiny spot on the edge of the rim. Under a 17x glass it seem like tiny spot of gunk. And I also found a proof Icelandic 2 Kronur From 1962 that I was told from another dealer at the show that I know that, this coin has a film on It. So back to the start of this entry do I conserve all these coins or not , were does it end. I'm not made out of money. Even though my 12 year old daughter thinks so.

Friend or Foe of the coins of Iceland
While examining one of my newest addition to my Icelandic coin collection I thought of a few of the other 1 and 2 kronur Brass coin's that I either owned or looked at, and came to one conclusion or at least a thought came to mind. The Copenhagen Mint In Denmark produced some of the worst quality coins in modern times for one of its possessions (Iceland) I have ever seen, not that i have seen a lot of coins from around the world. Its just that it seams that they made no effort in making some quality planchets for mintage of the one and two Kronur coins. The problem is that when the metal was being rolled in to sheets they may have rushed the process causing the metal to maybe roll over its self again and again making the coin flake apart or you maybe able to see were the metal was flatten and leaving a seam somewhere on the coin. now i have noticed this on the 1 eyrir coin as well. But i must say that the 10 and 25 Aurar coins were of much better quality then the rest. Plus the fact it was made with a lot of nickel in it .It properly made a big difference in the manufacturing of the planchets. And now their is polishing marks we can talk about well anyway. So doing i worry about the coin having a processing error so to say or just be dang happy I have such a nice coin. I will further look into the minting process of these coins in the future.

He Needs a lawyer not the collectors society's forum
He made his point with his first entry about this auction house , which i enjoyed reading about. But lost interest after the second entry because it sounded to me that he was on a mission to destroy a auction house that he had a bad experience with. He should of made it short and sweet and to the point. Now being the auction house that they are and NGC being affiliated with them, he brought the possible chance of ruining this forum for everybody that are here to collect coins and share the positive as well as the negative aspect of collecting, but he choose to make this a slanderous legal battle that gave NGC no chose to remove his entry's. Using this forum for legal battles is wrong. There is a right way of doing thinks and that was not the way. I hope that the rest of the members don't take that kind of actions in the future with this forum, we all know whats out there in this world lets not make collecting a bad experience before we even start our enjoyment of the hobby.

    Sorry
Just a Short time ago I read rfar response to my journal entry in a email to me and i was very impressed with the way he conducted himself to me in his email. And I thank him for his well mannered letter showing me how respectful and gracious he can be. Maybe I was a little harsh to his situation really did'nt mean to be. I have been involved in coin collecting since 1968, all most one month shy of forty years and seen so much of this hobby go to the wayside because of all the BS that has come to this hobby in the past forty years of my life. Its become a hobby of dollars and cents and how much money some people can get out of you. like back in the 80's when morgan dollars that was grade at ms-65 was going for thousands of dollars because some wall street firms were selling them in thier portfolio's and now you can buy those same coins for a hundred bucks or so. I'm just tired of people messing with the hobby. It used to be a very respectful hobby. Coin collecting became a passion for me many years ago. and still is and me being a person that loses interests in thinks quickly that is something that must be important to me. If anyone out there feels the way I do ( the love of collecting coins ) less discuss what this hobby has become and were is it going, so all you true numismatists out there what do you think. Please let us know. Thank You RFAR for opening my eyes a little more.

    Ten Days To Go
Two days ago I sent in the three Icelandic coins that I got this past month. Two of the three coins I got in the new york show this month and the other I won on ebay, they listed as a 1939 1 eyrir as a large three over a small three, now i know according to a web site that list's a icelandic coin collection that this man has. And in this listing of coins there is a 1938 large three over small three but no 1939 large three over small three. Since there is very little info out there I don't know if his collection made a mistake or I have a new variety ,now that would be sweet. The other two coins i mentioned was the 1925 1krona won at the coin auction at the N.Y. show and that beautiful 1937 25 Aurar that shinned like a diamond, also from the show. Waiting for the gods to smile upon me once more.

    I Hope things get better
I myself sent out another group of coins out this week(today). This Time to NCS. And after getting dinner started I decided to check out for any new journals and low and behold Bruce is having a not such a good day as many of the other society members. I hope this is not becoming a trend or bad omen. Maybe it's one of the NGC Gods that frowned on us for some reason we do not know of. How do you appease a angry NGC God. Maybe just maybe if we throw our pcgs slabs into a boiling volcano. Well if any other society member have any suggestions on how to gain favour of the gods please let us know .

    I know what Bruce means
Well i got such a crushing feeling today when i went online to check my status on the three coins i sent in. Two of the three coins did very well but the one that i was thinking would come back at lest a 64-65 more like 65 only came back only a 62. Well I was mad as a bee if you could have heard me you would have run for cover. I was #*!^ en Mad. It should have not came back so low it has all the things it need to be a 64-65 for a 1925 1 Krona now i have a 1929 2 kronur (made of the same metal) that does not look better then my Krona and that graded a 65 some years back. are they just filling graded slots ?. and not really grading the coin for what it is . I mean that this coin is a wonderful peace If i remember it only had a very small bag mark and had chartwheel and really nice luster. a real BU now the other coins did ok but they are the first of its kind to be graded by NGC or PCGS or any other grading service that i know of and the one coin that did much better then i ever would have thought came back a 63 but that was a new variety. go figure. well I'm going to have to take this up with NGC about this grade i got for the 1925 1 krona. Like i said in one of my journal entries last month they are hard on Icelandic Coins. like what bruce said today maybe they just have not seen many coins of that mintage but it does not mean that this coins can't be of the same grade. thier are tons of U.S. coins that have the same grade on the slabs that are of the same year. type that looks so much better then the others of the same grade and type and year. so what is going on here .

    Stunned
The 1925 1 Krona i sent to NGC and got the grade of MS-62 that floored me , this is a god like coin MINE compared to the one that is graded a MS-64 By NGC. I know the man that has this so called 64 and I have high grade pic's of the coin and in the NGC holder. Well if his is a 64, mine is a 69 which, will never happen for this type of coin from this year 1925 1 Krona. I missed the post office by 5 minutes so i am going to have to wait till tomorrow morning. I'm hoping its a error in their computer entry like them mistaken a 67 for 62 that i can buy without seeing the holder. Well before calling NGC about this i will wait until i have my coin in hand. Another member a few weeks back had that problem with the label/computer entry .

    No End In Site
Well i got my coins from the post office this morning. And called NGC and explained to them why i don't agree with the grade and they said to send it in for a regrade and that the scratches are polishing marks that only can be seen with a 15x power loop or higher they told me that they use a 5x loop well i told them that they may appear as scratches not polishing marks as i only can tell with a 17x loop ,now they will charge me another 32.00 dollars for a regrade plus shipping and insurance even if they admit they made a mistake. Now am i going to pay even more money for this coin or just now that this coin is so much better then the grade it was given. i wish some of you good folks out there will let me know what you think i should do. thanks for any help you can give me.

    Thanks NCS
Well my two Icelandic proof coins pre 1963, A 1957 10 Aurar and my 1962 2 Kronur that NCS conserved and was sent to NGC for grading came back a Proof 66 cameo for the 1957 10 Aurar which made me very happy and the 1962 2 Kronur came back Proof 63 which is not bad considering that these coins were not made in the best quality. All in all very pleased with the results. And I'm hoping to find some more early proof coins from Iceland. When I started this set I never thought It would be so hard to complete. Even with coins of high mintage such as the 1940 Type II 1 Krona I was only able to find one coin that even was worth sending in for grading and that coin came back a AU 58 Now I have the Type I and that coin looks good and that may come back a MS coin. Well the search goes on. Thanks for reading my post and i wish you all good luck with your searches.
