VKurtB got a reaction from zadok in Has Gradeflation Peaked ?
I can’t believe this needs to be typed, but “gradeflation” is when coins of identical quality (or even the very same coin) keep getting higher and higher GRADES. It has nothing whatsoever to do with prices.

Time in the market, not timing the market.

VKurtB got a reaction from J P M in How to pick out a good Unc or Proof Set?
No sir. 1776 and 1976, but neither 1975 nor 75 is anywhere on the U.S. Mint pieces.

VKurtB got a reaction from GoldFinger1969 in Once Red-Hot....Now, They're Not: Fallen Stars
At the same show (Rosemont, 2014) where the gold Kennedy half dollar was introduced, the also introduced the clad 2014P and 2014D high relief Kennedy halves. I can scarcely believe I need to say this, but 75/25 CuNi clad upon pure Cu - the “normal” clad formulation. But it was high relief, which became normal again in 2015. There were “idjits” chasing to have the first gold submitted. Mine were the first two clads submitted.

VKurtB got a reaction from powermad5000 in 1834 Large Cent, what would be the grade on this cent?
Or you could hug it, and cuddle it, and kiss it, and call it George.

VKurtB got a reaction from Henri Charriere in Who are the 8 most notable celebrity coin collectors?
Two contemporary collectors of some renown: Dallas Mavericks owner and “Shark” Mark Cuban, who has built an important collection through Laura Sperber’s firm, and “Gronk”owski, formerly an NFL player with New England, who has an impressive collection of proof Morgan dollars.

VKurtB reacted to Fenntucky Mike in Luxembourg Commemorative Medal - how to find the person who wants it
I hear good things about Great Collections, and have picked up several coins from them, but it'll be hard to get top dollar for non U.S. coins there, especially a specialized piece like this.

There is NO SUCH THING as a new collector that has ANY BUSINESS comparing their own coins with high graded coins. Not only don’t new collectors have the ANSWERS, they can’t even fathom the right QUESTIONS.

It's certainly plated. As for the rest of what you say here, it doesn't even demonstrate notable critical thinking efforts. I can think of no reason anyone would bother to lead you in the right direction after that.

Open your mind. The coin was plated at some point over the last 80 years. You have been told the truth. Learn from it.

VKurtB got a reaction from Henri Charriere in How to pick out a good Unc or Proof Set?
Okay, this is fact: NONE, absolutely NONE of the 1959 to 1964 brown envelopes, nor the white 1965 S.S. envelopes, nor the white 1959-1981 envelopes, nor any other envelopes, were shipped sealed by the Mint. All were unsealed from Day One. If you find one sealed, some foole sealed it after owning it. Don’t EVER EVER EVER assume anything good about any sealed envelope. Someone is running a con.

I protest sir. Yes, I am about as inflexible and doctrinaire as anyone here ever gets, but I am waaaaay into humor.

VKurtB got a reaction from Henri Charriere in 1970 D Roosevelt Dime Reverse Subsistence
Plating? What plating? It’s clad, not plated. We do cladding. Canada does plating. That doesn’t mean it couldn’t have been a torch heated bubble job, which is the most likely explanation. You could fall below the subsistence level waiting for that thought to subside. I’ll wait.

It doesn’t, and it hasn’t for a very long time.

I wouldn't melt them. I'd need to invest in a furnace. MCCC is the closest coin club to me, and they have used @dcarr for their (our?) coin medals for years. Dan's work is not everybody's cup o' tea (whose is?), but the MCCC likes his stuff. The MCCC was founded by Richard Josefiak, the lonnnnng time former Outreach Director from the ANA. Not a large club, but a high quality one. The members tend to be real live rocket scientists.

Not true. You win by not buying the lottery ticket in the first place. Depending on the ticket, it’s $1 or $2.

#36 1933 Eagle
#58 1927-D DE
#71 1955 Doubled Die Cent
#86 1974 Aluminum Cents
Sounds like six to me.

Oh c’mon. We’re talking numismatics here. Fallible is the most benign thing going on. Fallible is comforting. Fallible is warm and fuzzy. This field is awash in outright lying, complete with malice.
