I've been thinking.......we have a "For the love of copper" thread, so why not a "For the love of silver" thread?  So, let's give this a try!! Post any coins you want to share, just as long as they're silver.  I'll start us off with my only Faustina the Younger provincial, a silver Tetradrachm minted in Alexandria, Egypt:
    Let's see some great silver!!!

Much like nature.......the fakers are evolving.  Back when I first started collecting as an adult in 1999, no one would have even thought of a fake GSA holder, but here we are.  Very disturbing stuff.

I think it's damage also.  It just doesn't look "right" to me for an actual broadstrike.  As your reference photos show, the actual broadstrike coin does have the majority of the details of the design present, the coin is just shaped incorrectly and is large than usual.  Your coin has almost no detail remaining at all, and your coin also has some reeding, as Bob pointed out.  A true broadstrike would not have reeding as it would have been struck without a collar in place.  Damage can take many forms, and some forms of it can change the size and shape of coins.  We don't know what happened to your coin, but I'm certain that it happened after it left the Mint.

Man, look at that toning!!! It's amazing!! If I could find a West German silver 5 Mark with toning like that, I'd be one happy guy!! Thanks for sharing that one, Robec.

Welp, I headed out years ago without a word.  So, I won't do that again.  However, things have happened here that have made me realize that this isn't the place for me any longer.  There are too few things that I am interested in and want to talk about going on here and too many things that I'm not interested in and have no desire to talk about happening here.  I think that there are certain intersections that occur in certain areas of this hobby that don't work well for me, and these intersections are clearly manifesting here.  This isn't a place I feel good being in anymore.  I'm not enjoying it.  This is a hobby and its purpose is to be fun and to be a distraction from the mundane things and the bad things in life.  When a part of your hobby stops being fun and starts bringing additional mundane things and bad things into your life, it's time to disconnect and leave.  This Board has become that for me.  So, I'm saying Auf Wiedersehen at least for a while, maybe for good.  Not sure yet.  We'll see how things go.

No thanks.  I know what kind of coin garbage is on YouTube, thank you very much.  I don't need to go re-watch that same old, tired, lying, sensationalist, click bait garbage because that's exactly what it is.  And, after 23 years in this hobby both collecting and selling, I definitely don't need you telling me to "go watch in learn".  I think you're probably someone who has one of those garbage YouTube coin channels and you're trying to get views on it.  Either that, or you're simply doomed with coins because you love YouTube so much.  Nevertheless, it doesn't matter to me one bit because you're the one who's going to fail at this, not me.  Have fun losing a ton of money following the advice of those YouTube videos you seem to love so much.

Well, that tells me what I need to know.  I won't be wasting my time on this thread any longer.  You go ahead and keep believing those YouTube videos and see where it gets you.  You've gotten good advice from the members here.  It's entirely your choice if you choose to follow it or not.

Hi Patman!! It's because Philadelphia did not strike any nickels in 1968, 1969 and 1970.  Only Denver and San Francisco did, so those are what ended up in the mint sets.  Philly nickels show back up in 1971.

As the others have said DO NOT believe anything you hear about coins on YouTube, unless the videos come from a reputable numismatic organization like NGC, PCGS, ANACS, the PNG or the ANA.  Coin-wise, YouTube is a hive of liars and sensationalists that will say anything to create click bait in order to increase the numbers of viewers they get.  But it doesn't change the fact that these people are liars and frauds.  Definitely stay off of YouTube when looking for good coin information.  Signing up here at NGC is a good step forward in getting better coin information.

Now, THAT is a great story!!! I got all screwed up with language learning....in middle school, I took German from 6th-8th grade.  Then, I got to high school and switched to Spanish because the high school German teacher and I, well, did not get along.  Let's say that.  And it didn't help that I was in Spanish classes for all four years with this guy who would manage to say the absolute stupidest things you can imagine in Spanish.  He really mangled things and would end up saying things like "Señor Hernandez is vomiting dogs" or "Señora Escobar is raining urine today" in Spanish.  It was absolutely ridiculous.

    Hi Woods,
Sorry it took me 400 years to check out your site, but it looks good.  Very professional.  It's easy to navigate, it has good photos and the links and pages all work correctly.  I think you're going to make some U.S. collectors quite happy with your offerings.  Best of luck to you!

I'm looking on eBay.  That's the only place I've looked so far, but I'm going to check out MA-Shops as well.  I'm thinking I may have more luck there, but since it's a German site, I'll probably be able to buy one but not necessarily cherry pick one.  I think I'll get more serious about it once the auction for the 1950-E 10 Pfennig I'm bidding on has ended and I've either won it or lost it.  The 1950-E 10 Pfennig is the real toughie in the early East German run.

Very nice, TJ! That's a pretty cool cherry pick.  I'm trying to cherry pick a 1952-A Small A East German 1 Pfennig in nice shape right now.  All I've found are a couple of really ugly ones.  Ah, well.  If I keep looking, one should turn up.....it isn't that rare.

Are you just looking for coins that are worth money in order to make a buck, or do you actually want to collect coins?  That's an important thing to know going forward here.
