Yes. Me too! I thought it was PMD at first but now I think I have learned something new after researching this.

You could also post it in the Ask NGC/NCS section.....you may have better luck getting Mr. Lange's attention in that thread.

It's actually a mint error? I've never heard of a ragged fissure before. I'm shocked!! I thought for sure it was a victim of someone going crazy with metal snips. This "Pac-Man" may actually be worth something......I'll be damned! Even after 22 years of doing this, I still learn new things all the time in this hobby.

PS: Precious metal planchets come from contractors. The US Mint does not make them. If there is residue on them, it has to be corrected by the vendors.

And I am amazed to receive it. I bet some judges are too.

Ten minutes ago, I was awarded the Joseph E. Boling Award for Exhibit Judging Excellence. The award is given by Joe himself and endowed by the ANA Goodfellows, the association of past convention host committee chairs.

The mark is a from a squished giant paramecium.

Ten percent copper adds a slight yellowish "warmth" to the silver. Very noticeable when 0.900 and 0.999 are new and compared side-by-side. Pure silver can seem almost "harsh" and "cold."

I have been named to two ANA committees.
1) Membership and Outreach.
2) Exhibiting Committee.
Because of #1 above, I am your contact for ideas on what may make ANA membership more attractive to more of you. I will also be manning ANA booths at shows in the Gulf States region. The Robert E. Lee beard might play better there.

Every mint around the world even lower mintages for some issues silver bullion have a handful of bad coins in the run that makes it out the door the US mint isn’t any different year after year I hear and see someone complaining about modern bullion with problems seems to be the norm these days

Mohawk got a reaction from Henri Charriere in Gold othman empire coin, 1910
I forgot to add, Quintus......it's a completely understandable error. The 25, 50 and 100 Kurushes all look exactly the same unless you can clearly see the size, which isn't readily apparent from the photos. At least the 250 and 500 Kurushes have little numeric value representations on the obverses in the 6 o'clock position. The silver 5, 10 and 20 Kurush coins aren't denominated either and they also all have the exact same design. The Ottomans must have just relied on the sizes of the coins to suffice for denominational differences with many of their coins.

Mohawk got a reaction from Jason Abshier in Grade, price, and opinion on this Indian head cent
I'd say no. The coin is in bad shape and has no eye appeal whatsoever. I know when you're starting out, it's tempting to buy coins wherever you see them, especially when the price is low like this. However, I would recommend holding on to your hard earned money until you find coins with eye appeal, that are problem free and that will continue to bring you joy even years from now. That 1864 Indian is none of those things. You can definitely do better with time, patience and by fighting that urge that tells you to buy coins wherever you see them.

Mohawk got a reaction from RonnieR131 in Roger Burdette's Saint Gaudens Double Eagles Book
You're in for a treat......I actually own Roger's Peace Dollar book myself. I don't even collect U.S. coins and I really enjoyed it. There is a ton of fascinating information in there. And it also inspired my fiancée, who is building a Morgan Dollar date set, to add Peace Dollars as well!!

Not me. This is the country where the 1/3 pounder burger flopped because people thought it was smaller than the 1/4 pounder. When that kind of stupidity exists, there is no bottom to the abyss.

Looks like it may be FS-501. I’ll attach the link to Variety Vista to compare. Variety Vista is a good resource for variety attribution.
