Nice find.  I've found a few of them in our laundry money.  It's pretty cool to see them still turning up out there.

    Roger,
I wouldn't waste my time with this guy.  He won't listen to you.  Coinbuf had this to say about Lahti in one of his other threads:
He appears to be a complete, obnoxious, oblivious troll.  Hopefully he goes away soon.  He's extremely annoying.

That whole generation is almost gone now, sadly.  I hope we've gotten a lot of their stories written down so they aren't lost forever.

I met the last Tuskegee airman, General McGee, just a few months ago at Oshkosh. He just passed away.

Gen. Die Progreß fought for Switzerland in the famous "Battle of the Bump" in 1857. This occurred at the Bern shooting festival when all the riflemen accidentally fired at the same time. The noise and gunfire frightened the General's plump wife, who fell off a milking stool and bumped her head on a cow hoof. The General, thinking he was under attack, immediately mustered the militia and marched uphill and downhill until he found the cow. The General's wife came waddling through the troops holding her head and pointing at the cow, so everyone shot it -- dead. After all the marching everyone was so tired they stopped and invented the "hamburger" from the poor cow's remains.
For his bravery and quick action, Gen. Progreß was awarded a half pail of curdled milk, a slightly used plate of pickles, and the right to wear cow horns on Saturday nights.

It's easier than learning about old coins. Old coins make some people's brains hurt. And ancient coins make a lot of old coin collectors' brains hurt.

To Chester...I apologize, too.  I'm sorry tj and I went off the rails a bit.....that happens around here sometimes.
tj....you're dead on.  It's in Berlin in the former East Berlin.  While I know nothing about guns, I'm pretty sure 10 Marks was a good price for one!  And I commend your creativity in getting it sent back to the U.S. as well.  Very crafty .  If I ever need to send something that's a no-no, I know who to ask

    That picture looks like Berlin.
Yes, I have some interesting stuff.  I even bought a Russian Mosin Nagant while I was over there.   I was standing there with my buddies.  We were all looking at this beautiful weapon.  We all knew it was against regulation to buy any weapons over there.   It would have been caught during an inspection of our household shipment going home.....a big no no!!   The weapon was cheap, I paid 10 Marks for it.   I had to have!  I got it back to the barracks, broke it down and mailed it back to my parents in the States.  I mailed one box per month for about 6 months.....    The bolt, trigger, barrel, stock, magazine, etc.....
Sorry, @Chester Wall don't mean to hijack your thread here.

Hey!!! You be nice about my DDR ancestors and relatives!! We struck the finest aluminium coins you could ever want and Vita Cola is delicious!!!   Our ampelmännchen traffic lights are also the best in the world! :

But in all seriousness, it sounds like you acquired some cool mementos during your time in Europe.  Good stuff!

Yep, American service members.  I'm not a dedicated collector of this stuff.  It's just a box of random memorabilia and history.  The same way we grabbed all the Soviet memorabilia, Hammer and Sickle junk and coins after the wall came down!   And let me tell you it was/is JUNK, compared to the German stuff.  The Germans made quality swastika's.

So true.  And in some cases, a particular grading company may completely disregard cameo or ultra cameo on a coin based on an arbitrary definition assigned to a particular coin by a price guide.
