  1. I wasn't in the market for any of them at any point. But, then, I wouldn't be......I don't dig U.S. coins at all. Aside from U.S. coins picturing birds that I have in my thematic collection of coins featuring birds, I think I own something like three U.S. coins total. And I DEFINITELY would not pay $520 for one in any grade. If I were going to spend $520 on a coin, it'd be a nice 1958-J West German 5 Mark (which is likely going to happen when I find the right one). However, I'm very happy you were able to get yours, Bill.
  2. Well.....that picture doesn't help me much, personally. It might be different for someone else. However, from what I can make out, I think JP is dead on.....displaced metal and damage.
  3. There's a huge difference between eBay and Etsy in the realm of numismatics, Quintus. eBay has reputable sellers that offer good, genuine numismatic material. I should know.....I'm one of them. I also buy the majority of my coins and notes off of eBay and the biggest problem I've ever had is a few sellers using stock photos and not stating it in the listings. But I've been able to get a return and a full refund in each of those cases. There are bad people on eBay, yes, but a lot of good people as well. However, I have never seen a reputable seller of numismatic material on Etsy one single time. They're all selling fakes or parking lot errors for $50,000. Nothing genuine nor collectible. That's a huge difference that needs to be stated in this instance, Quintus. It's unfair to good eBay sellers, of which there are many of, to compare eBay to that full, stinking, diarrhea filled diaper known as Etsy.
  4. Yep...there also appears to be a gouge under the r and i in "America", which could be another source of the raised metal. Something definitely hit the coin and damaged it.
  5. Hello and Welcome!!! Well, I'm with JP......your coin is just damaged and not a true error. If you're interested in errors, this is a great site for you to check out. It has a ton of good information: https://www.error-ref.com/ Good luck!
  6. I don't. I think if one had, it would have shown up in a country that isn't the U.S. by now. There'd be way too much of an incentive for someone to try to sell it outside of U.S. jurisdiction for it to be hidden this long, I'd say.
  7. I knew I'd screw it up!! I'm way out of practice grading Washingtons Great GTG though, my friend!
  8. It fooled me, too, Greg. I thought it was an RPM as well. But if Mr. Lange says it's not, I'm certainly inclined to believe him.
  9. Possibly. But we'd know his coin is fake regardless of where he got it from and if he said it or not. The photos speak for themselves. A fake is a fake, whether it came from Etsy or a brick and mortar shop. But it's good he said that he bought it on Etsy so that we can warn him away from buying from that open sewer going forward.
  10. Man....it's been a while with me and grading Washingtons!!! But let's see here....my first instinct is MS63. I'll go with it and likely be wrong, but MS63.
  11. Two things to know here for the OP. 1. The coin is definitely a fake. There are a lot of fake cash coins made for various purposes, souvenirs and feng shui good luck charms being two of them. 2. Don't buy any coins off of Etsy, ever. Etsy is full of fakes and worthless, damaged coins being sold as valuable errors. Etsy is literally the absolute worst place on the planet to buy coins. It's a cesspool. If you get anything off of Etsy, you can virtually guarantee that it's fake.
  12. Exactly what Jonathan said. You don't sell it. You don't pass your mistake onto another person.....that's just wrong. This is one of the reasons why eBay even has to have that rule about selling fakes.....because there are people who would consider selling their fakes to another person to get out from under them. That's wrong. The best course of action here would be to just eat the loss and chalk this up to a learning experience and move on. Unless what you received is actually made of silver. Then, as Jonathan also said, there's nothing wrong with selling this item for its silver bullion value as long as you state that the coin is a fake made of silver. In such a case, your buyer would still be getting a lump of silver with some value. Otherwise, what you have is worthless.
  13. I've been picking up a lot of East Germany as of late, but I like the West Side, too:
  14. Thanks!!! I'm hoping I can find it a nice, new home. I'm angling to use some of the funds from that toward a nice, high grade 1950-E 10 Pfennig for my early East German collection or possibly something nice and rare from West Germany or Canada. Not sure yet. But probably the 1950-E.....those are pricey in high grade, let me tell you!
  15. I hear you, Woods.....some really great sets won this time. After I won my second big award in 2018, I retired from Registry collecting. But, with my new job and hunting nice, high grade East German coins again, who knows? People do come out of retirement............
  16. No worries. It's correct. Like most of my prices, it's a starting point and I accept offers on it. I couldn't find a price for a Friendly Eagle in MS 66+ on NGC, so I looked it up on PCGS. The PCGS Price Guide gave a price of $2750 on the Friendly Eagle Ike Dollar in MS 66+. I'm a bit below that price, but in that range. It's an expensive coin at that grade level, based on what I've seen researching it. It's the second highest grade at NGC and it's the only MS 66+ NGC has ever graded. It is exceeded only by a single MS 67 example.
  17. No problem. A magnet test is a good test to use on any coin that's supposed to be made of a non magnetic metal, such as gold, silver or copper.
  18. I'm finally on the mend, my friend! Can you tell? I finally slept well last night and slept late today and I'm on the downside, thankfully!!!
  19. If ol' Slicky said it, then it's a sure thing!!! Some Goof Off should clear it right up for you, JP!
  20. You probably won't get an answer to that........counterfeiters watch these boards and use what is said here to make their fakes better and more deceptive. We don't outline what exactly is wrong with your piece for that reason. What I would recommend is looking up photos of genuine Brasher doubloons and comparing your piece to the photos. Some study and comparison should show you what's wrong with your piece.
  21. Update-The 1970-S Small Date Cent in PF 68 Red Cameo has sold and the link has been removed. Thanks So Much!!
