is up to date with the latest pictures added.
I finished adding pictures to this set this morning so come take a look at some of my recent additions. Here's another preview.
A must have for a top Lincoln set...
...so I bought one. This is one of only 18 graded by NGC as of 3/7/12. This is one of the one's that has been on eBay for a while. I made an offer and it was accepted.
Here's hoping you get yours soon!

One will be crossed over
In total I have only 8 PCGS coins left in all of my Lincoln sets and they all happen to be in my #8 of Lincoln Memorials. Seven of the coins will be replaced and one will be crossed over.
I have always liked NGC graded coins over PCGS coins. This is partly due to the slab but in most cases I believe high grade coins from NGC look better. My opinion. Only because of the coin availability have I purchased PCGS coins because most believe they are equitable.
For ex
Never thought I would own one.
But I found this one on eBay about a week ago and I had to have it. Pure copper luster on both sides of the coin with only one small carbon spot on the reverse. It is not the best grade but it fits nicely in my sets and in my budget.
Enjoy the pic and check out my Wheat Reverse sets to see some other nice additions I have recently made. I hope to have all of the pictures loaded in the next week.

Also nearly white.
This is the Denver Walker I found on eBay. Some light golden toning on the obverse and reverse. It's another perfect fit in mom's Birth Year Set.
Major upgrades in the past two weeks...
My mother's birth year set had been idle for about a year and a half until this month. It started a couple of weeks ago when I received notification from Teletrade that one of the coins I needed was coming up for auction. I bid on the coin several days early and watched the close of the auction go to me. A 1947 P NGC MS67 Walker halve was mine. That auction closed on a Sunday.
Three days later I was scanning eBay to see what 1947 coins were availab
I'll soon be trying this!
For all of the eyeball loop enthusiasts here in our world, there just may be a better way to examine coins. My wife recently ordered a SkyMall catalog (those found behind the seats in airplanes) and it had an add it from the Hammacher Schlemmer store. Check out this link:

I'll be ordering mine soon!
Happy Holidays and good luck for those in the hunt for a title in this year's coin races!

Gettin' there...
Because money is tight I've resorted back to the basics. I am in the process of completing my Jefferson Dansco. Not counting the MS versions of the 39 reverse 38 and 40, which I'm seeking in TPG MS64, I only have 14 MS coins to acquire, all from 38-51. From 60 forward they are mostly mint wrapper coins. I have a 38 proof that I just purchased and then from 53 forward I have every proof. All of the SMS coins are in hand. I'm hoping this will be an exclusively choice BU set
Thanks to WKF.
I must say that I have never really collected anything but modern coinage, basically because of the cost - I have a meager budget.
However, reading all of WKF's journals has sold me on collecting some silver. I started out this week buying about 1/3 of the mercury dimes although only in low, raw coins to fill a Dansco album. Before I knew it, I had purchased about a dozen Barber dimes (another Dansco set), a 1776 Seated Liberty dime, and about 1/2 dozen silver bars (mostly 1
I received it about a month ago.
I bought a raw 1929S Lincoln for my Dansco in July of 2007 and it was shipped to me via USPS. After about 3 weeks I contacted the seller to make sure he had shipped it. Long story short, it arrived about a month ago, some 2 1/2 years later. It was still in its origianl shipping package with no damage at all.
But I'm almost positive I saw an article in last year's Coin World congratulating the winner's of NGC's awards.
Can anyone corraborate this and if so tell me which issue it was in? I've looked through my issues 3 times and can not put my hands on it.
Thanks for the "Best Presented Set" NGC. I never dreamed it would happen!
Michael
I was completely unexpecting this!
The number 1 Best Presented set for my mom's 1947 birth year mint set?
I didn't even bother checking out the winners until about mid-day on the 9th. I had about twenty completed sets of modern coins that I knew would get No. 1 awards along with the masses, so for me it was really no big deal. Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoy completing each and every set and I hang on to the certificates that NGC sends us to commemorate the occasion. I think the fa
They won't always be....
Modern coins will not always be modern.
Every coin, has at some point, been modern. Time will tell which coins will hold or increase in value. Even in terms of "modern" coins, a few examples out perform others. Take a look at the 1999 Silver Delaware State Quarter - a steal at anything less than the Numismedia value of $3750 (last time I looked, anyway). Even the 2009 Lincolns, proof and mint state at collector grades, have, so far, outpaced other Lincolns of mod
Goal met.
This coin moved me into the #8 spot in the Lincoln Memorials. It was an upgrade worth 470 points. I have since added the 2009P Birth and Childhood and the 2009P Formative Years Cents in MS67RD,
I am all for it.
The only draw back I see to this is that NGC will be getting more money out of us for grading our previously body-bagged coins. But that's OK because I get something worthwhile out of it as well. I havent' submitted a whole lot to NGC but I have received several body-bagged coins in return from what I have submitted.
Most of these coins were nothing overly special (just some of my first IHCs I'd purchased mainly). However, there was one coin (1913 $10 Indian Eagle) that m
Took me to #10 for a short while...
Bought this beautiful top pop 1961 D NGC MS67RD from Teletrade. The NGC pop in this grade is only 43. It put me in the #10 slot for about a day. Someone else added several coins and moved ahead of me, dropping me to #11.
Personal opinion: I think this is one of the best photos I've ever taken of a Lincoln or any other coin for that matter.
Movin' on up...
Michael
Sent in 3 sets of the Clad Proofs (minus the 25c and the Prez dollars) and these are the overall disappointing grades. At least the roosies did well!
Two of these coin sets, along with the ungraded quarters and Prez dollars, will be on ebay soon. Keep your eyes open for the listings. I am keeping one set of 69's, along with one of the 70 Roosies and the 70 Kennedy, for myself.001 2009 S BRONZE BIRTH & CHILDHOOD 1C PF 69 RD ULTRA CAMEO 002 2009 S BRONZE BIRTH & CHILDHOOD 1C PF
A few Lincoln additions to my Memorial set.
In the last two weeks I've made a few more purchases for my Lincoln Memorial set that have helped me close the gap on the ranks.
Here is the list of coins I've added:
1959 D - NGC MS67RD Top Pop
1967 P - NGC MS66RD
1974 P - NGC MS67RD Top Pop
1974 D - NGC MS67RD Top Pop
1983 D - NGC MS68RD Top Pop
2003 P - NGC MS69RDP Top Pop (only 5 graded by NGC)
These coins put me only -
200 points from #11,
248 from #10,
542 from #9, and
After spending about a month teetering in the high 500's...
I've landed a rather secure spot in the rankings at 554 as of today. It has taken the month of June to reach where I currently stand. Details of some of the newcomers are listed below.
First, this week I sent in 3-sets of the Clad Proof Mint Set (minus the quarters and Presidential dollars) for grading. We'll see how this works out. I'm hoping and praying I get at least one 70 for each coin submitted (Lincolns to Sac). I'll kee
If you haven't already, you gotta see this!
If you haven't tried NGC's certification lookup/verification lately you have to check it out. Not only does it verify the coin cerification for you as it always has, it also provides a direct link to the NGC census report for that coin, shows the Numidmedia price AND, if the coin was encapsulated recently enough, it actually gives you small and actual size photos of the coin you have just looked up.
In the two examples of coins on ebay I looked up
Top Pops and not.
For those of you that keep up with the Lincolns, you may have already noticed that a couple of my sets have moved up.
My Memorial set has recently climbed a spot to No. 13. I'm drawing closer to my goal of a Top 10 set with a minimum of 8000 points (I'm really shooting for 10000 pts). I've added some very decent coins to the set in the last 2 weeks. Some of them have not arrived yet so no pictures for those as of this writing, but let me assure you they are mint red. Th
Only 15 of these gems as of 3/6/09.
Now I own one of them!!!!!!
This one had been on ebay for about a month and a half, varying the type of auction and the price. I have been staring at it this whole time, wanting, aching, yearning to buy this probable once-in-a-lifetime coin.
I wanted this coin so badly to go into my mom's 1947 Birth Year set. Except for one coin to be upgraded and the four yet to be purchased, it is an all NGC MS67 set (one MS67 star designated dimes as well), nearly per
An update on my last two months.
So much for following my "plan". I have severely steered off course but have made quite a few acquisitions lately. From mid April to todays additions I have gone from approximately position 1050 in the overall registry to position 792, where I now stand. Now for the "HOW" part...
I started out trying to complete my 2004 Mint Proof Set, which I have done. I am waiting on the 2004 Proof Clad Dime to arrive so I can enter it and officially achieve the No. 1
