Top Pop 6!

Just received today... my gorgeous 1961 P MS67RD Lincoln from Telecoin. That's right - only 6 in the top pop grade - and best I can tell only 3 of those are in our registry. Right now it only fetches 241 points but hopefully that will change with two recent score change requests. Maybe it will at least be on par with the 1961 D with 908 points and 8 times as many graded in MS67RD. I leave you with a picture of this amazing coin. New #1 Mint Set

I have finally achieved another personal goal - to take the lead in my birth year mint set - 1966 business strike. I currently have an MS67RD Lincoln (top pop), an MS66 Jefferson (3 finer), an MS67FT Roosevelt (3 finer), and an MS67 Washington (1 finer). Only missing the MS66 Kennedy. These coins put me in the lead by about 600 points. But it gets better. Just last week I agreed to purchase Todd Henson's MS68FT Roosevelt (top pop of 3) and this will add another 799 points to my total.

Goal Met!

For Now anyway..... In the past two weeks I have achieved my personal goal of building a top five set of Lincoln (1959-date) Cents. This achievement was made possible, in the short term, by three individuals. I purchased a 1977 P MS67RD from fellow CS member Thane. I acquired my 1978 P MS67RD from Hunter's Gold. My 1986 P MS68RD and my 2012 D MS67RD both came via purchase from Mark DiLauro at datentype. Thank you all! I began my set 7 years ago with the purchase of a 2005 P SMS MS69RD a

Another one bites the dust!

The newest addition to my Lincoln 1959 - Present set is ... a 1971 P MS67RD with a top pop of 29 in the grade. Lately I find myself acquiring Lincoln cents on payment terms. So far it has worked out fine. This is about the fifth or sixth one I have paid for that way and it has now found a new home in my set. This one is not one of the earth shattering points coins, it is just a must for a complete set of top pops. This one registers 143 points and has helped put my set in the number 6 p

Prescott's Picturesque Penny

MS67* RB Normally I wouldn't even consider a RB coin for my Lincoln Memorial set. However, I saw this coin offered by Great Toning out of Massachusetts and had to have it! He let me buy it on terms and I made the final payment today. The coin should be here some time next week. Great Toning () let me use his pictures from the eBay listing to create this montage for viewing. Currently, the coin garners a measly 78 points in the registry but I'll be submitting for points review and hope i

Coming Home to Papa

It took almost a month to work out the details, but ... she goes in the mail tomorrow. My newest addition: a 2012 P MS69RD Lincoln. OK, I will admit you almost certainly have to be a Lincoln lover (or maybe just a top pop purist) to understand what this coin means to my sets. First, this is a pop 3/0 coin. Granted, it is early in the penny year and others may surface. But look at it historically. In 2006 there are only 4 MS69RD business strikes (I acquired one of those via trade not lon

LOW pop, LOW price, LOW points - FOLLOW UP

So after reading the comments on my last post, especially from Hunter's Gold and Six Mile Rick, I decided to ask NGC for a score adjustment on my new 1981 P MS67RD. I did this on Monday. So I open up the site tonight to find that those of us with one in our sets had received an increase of 632 registry points for the MS67RD! If I'm not mistaken, everyone with at least an MS64RD got the increase of some points. Now I'm not saying it was my effort alone, but maybe the cumulative effect of e

LOW pop, LOW price, LOW points

My new addition may not be all that intriguing but it is ... none the less an MS67RD top pop Lincoln. Hi friends! I scored a nice little MS67RD NGC 1981 P Lincoln Memorial on Teletrade tonight. It only has a top pop of 11 coins at NGC and carries a whopping 16 points. It has a value of more than twice what I paid for it so it was a great deal. It doesn't do much for the score but it puts me one coin closer to complete set. Here she is! To see old comments for this Journal entry, c

Mercury Short Set

Received in trade from Six Mile Rick. I came by this set via trade with Six Mile Rick for a handle full of State Quarter Proofs and MS coins. Really nice coins to get me started with the Mercs which I have been wanting to do for some time. I have two slots left to fill in this set (1943S and 1945 Micro S) before I can feel satisfaction again on completing a set. Thanks Rick for a great trade. Here is a parting shot of one of the coins. NGC Pop of Only 10!

My new addition mentioned earlier in the week. Don't you just hate it when you get a new coin in the mail and you try to register only to get the dreaded "still owned" message? That is the case with this one and my set. Anyway, perhaps it will be added shortly. Until then here is the composite picture of my new coin worth 1521 points and a pop of only 10. This one has so few sales data that NGC doesn't even give a value in MS67RD. No recent auction data either so you are forced to go by

New Acquisition

Picked up a nice one on eBay tonight. Secured another NGC Top Pop Lincoln Memorial tonight with only 10 in the grade. This coin moves me half way to #6. It's a gem looking coin and carries 1521 points. I should have it no later than first of the week and I'll add details and pictures then. Thanks for reading. An Awesome Trade

Two Lincoln top pops and a PCGS replacement Hi members! Just today Gilmore and I completed a fantastic trade. Coins go in the mail on Monday. Gilmore is receiving my 1909 S NGC MS65RD Lincoln, a 2001 D PCGS MS68RD, a 1986 D NGC MS68RD, a 1908 S NGC VF30BN, and a 1948 D NGC MS67FT Roosevelt. In return, I get Gilmore's 1966 NGC MS67RD, a 2001 D MS68RD, and his 2006 P MS69RD. Certs have been exchanged and I have already updated my set. I now reside in slot #7 for all coins and #3 for NG

Linda C Prescott Birth Year Set

Only One Left. Yesterday I received my newest addition to this #1 Mint Set, a 1947 P MS67 Jefferson Nickel. It is top pop as there are no 5FS or 6FS in 67 at NGC. One of 17 in the grade. Read my set description to see the story behind the acquisition of this coin. Finally! With this new addition, this leaves me one coin short of an all NGC MS67 set. Not to bad on my budget. The 1947 S Jefferson is my next target. Since beginning my mom's set in 2007, I have yet to see one come up for

FS-101?????

Could it be a TOP POP Variety? Six Mile Rick and I see this as an FS-101. Take a look at the arrow points and though not completely obvious in the picture there is a second "D" to the east of the loop clearly visible under magnification. More opinions please. My 1984 D arrived!

Now for the pic. Here she is, the coin I mentioned I traded for last week. She finally made her way home and into my set. Isn't she a beauty? She carries a 2169 point value. My set still resides at #8, for now, with 22969 pts and only 520 from 7th place. I expect to take that spot within the week. That is IF NGC holds off on any more point adjustments. We'll see what happens when the next trade is complete. Thanks for viewing and reading. Stay tuned! To see old comments for thi

Another great trade underway!

Maybe I can share the details before the weekend. Hi members! Let me start by saying my 1984 D I spoke of last week is at the post office for me to pick up tomorrow (I missed it today). I should have pictures posted tomorrow night. This new trade in the works is with the same person I received that coin from and is for 3 outstanding Lincoln Memorials. One is a top pop and the other two are second pops, one an MS66 but with high value and the other is MS68RDP, second only to the single MS

20K points!

A trade for an NGC 1984 D MS68RD ... went through for me yesterday and will be a 2016 point upgrade over my existing MS67RD when the coin arrives early next week (picture will be added at that time). Only 10 of these exist in NGC's registry so I am very fortunate. This coin puts me over the 20,000 point total. I'll still remain at #8 for the all coins option but I'll cut the deficit point total by more than half. Thanks to the new filtered rankings feature my set is the #3 1959-Current

Fresh from Teletrade. I just received this one in the mail about 30 minutes ago. NGC Top Pop. I found it on Teletrade about a week ago and won it for a reasonable amount. Heritage Coin

It eluded me for a while... but thanks to a heads up by Hunter's Gold I finally have it in my registry. About two week's ago Hunter's Gold let me know this one was coming up for auction at Heritage. I paid more than I had intended but still less than Numismedia so I think I made a good buy. I won it in the last few minutes of bidding. Now it is safe and at home. My #8 Lincoln Memorial set is about 532 points short of #7 and about 900 points short of #6. Stay Tuned! To see old commen

Another Top Pop

This new to my set coin arrived today. I added it just a couple of days ago. I found it on eBay and until the last few minutes of the bidding I thought I was going to get an exceptional steal but the bids went up in the end. I still won it for a reasonable price and it is now a proud slot holder in my set. My set is now over 15,000 points! Thanks for looking. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New Addition

I added this hard to find coin ... just a few days ago. It is one of only 17 graded by NGC as MS68RD and top pop. I have been looking for quite a while. Thanks to hunter's gold for the heads up on this coin. It never came up in any of my searches but he alerted me of the coin with a couple of days left in the auction and I was able to acquire it with little problem. With this addition, I am now about 900 points short of taking over 7th place in the 1959-current Lincoln Memorial set ranki
