Conder101 got a reaction from GoldFinger1969 in The NGC Purge - Goodbye Dealers
What did dealers have to do before this to be authorized dealers?  I don't know but I suspect they had to submit a certain level of submissions annually.  Is it possible that a lot of small dealers who submitted enough to become authorized dealers initially have now slacked off on their submissions but are still benefiting from the 15% discount?  If so this $199 fee would make up for the fees lost to those authorized dealers who aren't submitting enough or shake them out

The cost is going to vary depending on the value of the coins and the number of coins in the submission.  I ran the numbers awhile back for NGC for submission using the economy tier (which the two saints you mentioned would not qualify for, but the Morgan would). and if you sent in 5 coins at that level they would work out to an average of $27.50 each.  But if you sent in just ONE coin it would cost $72 for that coin.  The difference being that the fees and shipping/insurance would be split between the five coins in the first case but all dumped on the one coin in the second case.

Would probably be worth more if it was known to have been sent to CAC and DIDN'T bean.  The bean means it is solid for the grade or high end for the grade.  If it didn't bean then it is LOW end for the PO-01 grade and since the goal is to get the lowest grade a bean reject would be the lower grade coin and so worth more.

Because it is a old very bad fake.  The counterfeiters are already well beyond the point where discussing the shortcomings of this piece will help them.

No those are the actual names for the denominations as set forth in sec 9 of the Mint act of 1792. and the Coinage act of 1849 for the Double Eagle
SEC. 9. And be it further enacted, That there shall be from time to time struck and coined at the said mint, coins of gold, silver, and copper, of the following denominations, values and descriptions, viz. Eagles—each to be of the value of ten dollars or units, and to contain two hundred fort-seven grains and four eighths of a grain of pure, or two hundred and seventy grains of standard gold. Half eagles—each to be of the value of five dollars, and to contain one hundred and twenty three grains and six eights of a grain of pure, or one hundred and thirty five grains of standard gold. Quarter Eagles—each to be of the value of two dollars and a half dollar, and to contain sixty one grains and seven eights of a grain of pure, or sixty seven grains and four eights of a grain of standard gold.
    From the Act of 1849
Double eagles, each to be of the value of twenty dollars, or units

The loss of that fin may seem small compared to the rest of the coin, but gold is heavy, and the tolerance on the double eagle was only .03 grams.  So maybe the loss of the fin could put it out of tolerance.

What they are calling 1964 SMS coins did come from the Eva Adams estate, they were sold at auction in 1991, they did NOT come in 5 coin plastic holders, and they are not actual SMS coins just first strike from new dies.(Although why new dies should have so much heavy die polishing lines I don't understand.)

Yes but if they changed the composition to aurate-brass plated, or steel (as Mohawk suggested) they would need "retooling" wouldn't they?  I agree that if the dollar note was discontinued they wouldn't need retooling to accept  the current dollar coins.  I don't think any vending machine made in the past 20 years doesn't have the capability to accept the dollar coins.

And while the "Bugs Bunny" clash marks are best known on the 1955 franklins, they can found on all date and mint Franklins, but they will usually only bring a premium on the 1955's.  Why?  The result of advertising hype and they fact they managed to get them listed in guides for awhile.

Yes there are collectors of wooden money, both the rounds and the flats.  There is an International Organization of Wooden Money Collectors, and a Canadian Association of Wooden Money Collectors. (I believe the IOWMC was originally the Society of Wooden Money Collectors two of the Presidents of that organization were members of one of my local coins clubs, the Louisville Coin Club.
It isn't a market I'm involved with, but I know it exists.

Conder101 got a reaction from James Zyskowski in Just bought a 1965 Special Mint set.
Legislation was passed in 1967 that allowed for the return of the mintmarks in 1968.
I would assume the S. S. on the white envelope stood for Special Set.  Mint sets were labeled UC (Uncirculated Coins) and proof sets were PC (Proof Coins) so Special Set, would make sense.  They weren't Uncirculated and they weren't Proof, they were "Special".
