Hi RWB. You are right about the equipment. Kinda scarry stuff.

I hesitate to send it to NGC as the worst thing for me to let myself to believe that it is real just for a punch on the face at the final step.

There may be no one out there that you can depend on to tell you if it is real or not without holding it in hand. NGC will, so you can go through the rest of your days without wondering. Your choice ?

Well thank each and every one of you for crushing my hopes and dreams.... just kidding I really do appreciate yall for your knowledge its very inspiring and devastating in a way but I'm eager to learn so these counterfeits are a part of learning right

I am sorry to see you got swindled. This hobby is a tough one to start out by getting a bad coin. You have a good attitude, I hope this coin does not scare you away.  Put it in a flip with a label. (Bad Trade)

    Hello,

I have never posted any messages. This is my first.

I see that here is actually a collector base out there for counterfeit coins. Unfortunately, several years ago I purchased 3 mercury dimes that were counterfeits. One of those was a 1916-D. I no longer have that coin in my possession as it was used by the secret service in an investigation. I have two remaining in my possession, a 1919-S and a 1926-S. I have held on to them and used them to help educate other collectors. I would consider selling them to someone who collects counterfeits. Note: all 3 coins were encapsulated in (Counterfeit) PCGS Holders.

I don't think anyone is looking for counterfeit coins. It would be cool to find one in circulation is what everyone is referring to. And this OP said he found 4 ?

I have a proof die scratch nickel. What kind you talking about?

I posted two new coins with die scratches in the Newbie section.  I saved a full roll of each.

Recently added a 1834 H10C. It's the only half dime I have collected so far. Trying to figure out what die variety it is?

    I know it's a 3/Inverted 3. Wasn't sure if it was a possible LM-1, FS-301 or a LM-3, FS-301

I don't understand the differences. I was thinking it was a LM-3, FS-301 from looking at other examples.

What would you grade this coin? I know some people would really dislike this toning but it doesn't bother me. Anything else welcome.

The coin is in very good shape, there may be some wear under the toning, but it is what it is.

    I hear crickets. hm

Just joking bud, I do the same thing, but I only keep one roll of each error coin. Like one of each of those die scratch nickels. I guess you could try e-Bay. you may get some lookers.

4 Henning nickels found in one roll would is, in a word, mind-blowing.   As to value, I found one place that said up to $90 but that depended on condition and I don't know how old that info was.  Collectors of counterfeits are out there - I have a few but to my regret once let go of a counterfeit Mexican coin.  Like this Henning nickel, the counterfeiter made an error (but in this case, it had to be purposeful).  He copied an original but where the mintmark goes, he put a letter that has never shown as a mintmark on any Mexican coin.  Sometimes counterfeiters do that as an ego thing.  There is a $20 gold piece counterfeit that has something on it from the counterfeiter for the same reason.  If I weren't so old and out of the acquisition phase, I would pay as much as $25 for one in the condition of the one pictured.  I bet a real collector of counterfeits who didn't already have one would pay more than that.story of the henning nickels

Four sounds out there a bit far

Make a nice top pop im pretty sure. I would be happy with a MS 66FS or even MS 65FS if i found it roll hunting still nice for a modern and free other than the effort xD

In that coin 66 is a top pop, there are no 67 at NGC

Oh wow..now I am kicking myself a bit. I was pretty lucky to find them then just ignorant on saving one.

I didn't consider it only because I don't look for moderns until recently when i hear or see things like that. Maybe I should pay closer attention to modern mintages.

I mainly focus on pieces pre-1964  Preferably older than that is what I enjoy the most.

    Thanks again and happy hunting!

Even though it is a low mintage it is not a rare coin, just hard to find . LoL  Now if my 2009 P graded at 67 then it would be a rare coin .

So 5 versus 225 in MS-65 for ANACS. NGC/PCGS should do the same so a consensus can be formed as to how many of these coins could be out there graded or even left in circulation. Seems this die crack is more rare then even the 5 step coin.

I do not think,( although a nice looking coin with a rim to rim crack ). It will increase the value a lot. I have many nickels with cracks. I think it would depend on more factors than just the crack.
