To me it looks like a grease strike through more than a clash.

I have a saying,
If it ain't broke don't fix it . I have to ask what is the coin and grade?

But, but one learned member elsewhere disputed that this thing happened the way you say it did and now you are taking the liberty of embellishing your discovery with whipped cream!
It is raised not incuse, so it is more likely to be a die crack than a strike through Henri. No matter what it is it is not a scratch, so it is a variety of one kind or another.

I think it is just the fact that the fields are proof, so that amplifies the raw metal and makes it appear like a matt cameo look.

if you have a question on something it is better to make a new thread than to open an old one. It makes it confusing.
About your coin It looks to be damaged and not a mint error. perhaps some better shots in a new thread would help to see the coin better.

But, but... I thought the steps counted only on Mint State coins. (The ones on the '09s appear to have been stolen.)
You can have Full Steps all the way down to the bottom. (Not likely to be found) but they would count if you did find them.

It is not showing off to post coins here, You may find answers to your questions without spending a dime.
There are many coins that look like they are error coins but they are not.

The 62 looks like a nice book coin and two 09 D is a rarity to find in my area, too bad they are in rough shape. What do the steps look like on the 2009s ?

It's amazing how many bicentennial quarters are still out in circulation, or keep getting put into circulation,
Thats because I through all my quarters back into the wild to recycle.

The 74 looks like it was grease and worn out dies on both sides. It may have also seen more use.

Ok so now instead of having a written letter of documentation. In the 21st century we do have paper documentation in these small plastic holders all together with the coin and a website for further information on the same coin. I normally blank out the serial numbers on the coins but I felt if people want to look up the SP coin on-line It would be easier.

Unfortunately, this is common modern stuff where the whole production is called something special. I refer to true historical pieces.
I agree there is mostly hype on graded coins like ASE.s. This SP is however something different in my opinion. I can see this coin will just have to wait a hundred years to be a historical special production.

It may be a spike head if the crack goes all the way to the rim. Although a very nice crack it may only increase the value to a variety collector. You may want to look at this site and see if there are any references.

AU Details. Removed from Jewelry. Thanks everyone for their input! You guys were spot on.
We try to do what we can to help members. At least you know it is real that alone was worth the grading.

Just for fun, I think you should check and see how many circulation strike nickels have been graded MS 68, 69, and 70
