...exceptional lustre for that date n mint...very nice...thank u....
Thanks for asking, it is what I call a true MS 66, Some are not. As you may well know. What most people do not know is there are not many MS 68,69 and 70 for nickels. That is why LEM's set is so nice with its higher MS coins.

Double struck ones?
Why are you calling it a ,double broadstrike coin ? It looks like a cupped broadstrike

Rare is hard to say, what do you consider rare means? How many are out there? We have talked about rarity, and no one has the same answer. LoL

I see all kinds of Jefferson nickels every day and I can say without a doubt you coin has been damaged. We call it PMD ( Post Mint Damage )

That appears to be the case. I believe this was actually one of the more published facts.
I would not be surprised if some of the Kennedy family ended up with a half dozen coins just because.

The one in an NGC holder referenced is from my post above which was obtained from the HA site listed in a 2004 auction. I thought HA checked certs, so I wonder if it was crossed over or something since then as that was a while ago.
Yes, I saw the H.A.,but I also saw the 69 and that was a question. So I looked it up.

ANALYSIS OF A 7-POINT THREAD
Something Funny Happened on the Way to the Forum... and no one apparently noticed.
The OP announced his project. There was the usual give and take and then, nearly a year later... this is purely conjecture on my part, a collector discovered he was required to become a member if he wished to participate on the chat board. On Sept 29, 2023, he joined up, posted a question ostensibly asking if he could ask a question, was told he could and, declining to do so, promptly fled the premises, never to be seen or heard again. Huh?
Was it something he said? No, because he never did.
Was it something he did? No, because there is no evidence in the record to suggest he did anything at all.
All of this transpired within 24 hours.
What happened?
He was not real. It happens on the forum all the time. AI has the capability to do all sorts of stuff HC and why bring this up again. It just takes up Time + Space.

Well hear is a good one, two of the coins in holders that I looked up for reference have no listings.

Congrats Z.. that is a nice Top Pop. Now think about this one. In the future someone who does not know about the contest will look at this coin and think that it was the registry award winner. When it was you that won not the coin.

I still think these 1964 coins are just the first ones off the line from a new die.
1964 50C SMS (Special Strike) Kennedy Half Dollar - PCGS CoinFacts
-
I would say it has the same die cracks, but I cannot see any doubling on the devices with these photos.
-
Ok from my understanding the SMS coins were not even thought of until 1966. When the mint got tired of listening to the collectors complaining about no proofs being struck. And the only years were 1965,66 and 67 anything in 1964 would have been a Special Strike not a Special Mint Set. Is that a good start, FlyingAL

I have no idea what you are asking. First. Take shots of the coin obverse and reverse and in orientation not sideways please. Then ask a question about the coin. Thanks

How so? He was known to have frequently visited the Little Missouri River Badlands depicted on the coin between 1883 and 1886 while in the army, so the pistol is likely the army issue M1873 SAA Colt 45. The standard army issue 45 Long Colt cartridges of the period are much longer than more modern pistol cartridges, and would stick out like a sore thumb on the belt similar to the attached, with one empty cartridge on the right.
Have you been hanging out with QA lately, or maybe I am missing the inscriptions on the pistol and the cartridge cases depicted on the belt.
The 45 long was also for the rifle, so you did not have to carry different rounds of cartridges.

I will just hand pick my 2024 ASE at the local shop for the asking price which is normally $5 to $8 over melt. Put it in an Airtight and call it a day.

Very true. Astute observation, as it then may likely be a 2000 cent. In any event it wouldn't qualify for a Tier-1 PLC Registry Set due to the apparent "road rash" present.
Can't you see It's a Cheerio cent. Gee, I should have taken it away from the kid years ago. She has been chewing on it for far too long.

It does have a nice rim to rim die crack it is just hard to see. Is this something you wanted to pick up for resale I am not sure I would buy it just from the pictures.

Put your coin on a white piece of paper. Put your phone on a stack of books or a soda can. Zoom in so the whole coin fills the screen and shoot without flash. Flip it over and do the same for the reverse shot.

Slab weight is something no one talks about. Some coins have not been photographed by the top grading company's. If you post some pictures of your coins, the members here can give you a good idea of your coins authenticity if the shots are good enough.

in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
Posted
LoL If looking for posable mint defects in coins is what you like to do then go for it. I roll hunt all the time and I do find many irregularities in coins. However, I do not find true error coins very often, once in a blue moon like almost never. But I still roll hunt all the time searching for hard-to-find coins to fill my coin folders. I enjoy it and if I do find a coin, I truly think is worthy I will post it in a thread to see what others think. I say collect what you like. The point is Most collectors do not hunt only a small percentage. Kurt knows coins inside and out and has been collecting and representing numismatics for his lifetime. He as most members here will tell you how things are you may not like all of it but we all are true to the hobby.
