Hey Lem.. Question for ya.......Did you buy that coin graded, or have it done and if so is it do they label all coins that have variety's when you send them in? Or do you have to let them know you want it labeled ...??
I did buy it graded already. Bought a few lots of lower grade coins to study. Ended up with about 15 coins in all. I have never submitted a coin so I’m not the greatest person to ask about that. I don't see many die crack attributions on labels. I wouldn’t say a die crack is a variety though. But like I said, Im not sure.

Be careful not to drop it to hard with a crack like that one LoL, Funny you posted about nickels because that is what I am checking this morning for PL FS I have 2 new rolls of 2020 D and I am having a hard time finding any without bag marks... The new nickels are so sharp on the rims that they are cutting each other right out of the shoot at the mint it looks like. Also on the Denver nickel die the steps on the right must be worn out or greased up. they are gone. the first is a D the second is a P
They are gone aren’t they. Good eye. Could be a grease job. Nice find.

I don’t know all that much about these coins and this is only my opinion, but just from comparing the two coins I see a few differences. I understand they are two different years, but I wouldn’t think there would be that many areas that differ from each other. I could be wrong.

Hey JP, I know you like nickels with die cracks, so here you go. 1951 D with an almost rim to rim crack on the reverse. Just doesn’t quite make it all the way. Fish hooks right back into the O.

Thats a looker. If you hadn’t said something I would have said it was starting to turn to that pink magenta red. Good steps too. I like it. Nice grab.

Been dreaming of owning a CC ever since I started collecting. I really wanted one from the GSA hoard also. I had to settle for one of the more common date CCs but that's fine with me. I'm not picky. Whoever pre owned it took really good care of it. The box and card doesn't have a spot or crinkled corner or nothing. The holder doesn't have a scratch on it nowhere. It was all in mint condition. It is an 1883 ms64. My question is what are the lines of metal around the stars and letters? Kinda favors a die crack. It's on both sides of the coin. And goes most the distance around the coin. Hard to tell by my pics. You can really see it above STATES on the reverse.
Whatever it is I'm still honored to own it. Been dreaming of owning one of these for a very long time. I'm so happy I finally got to add a CC GSA to the collection. Took me a little over 2 years but finally got her.
Nice pick up HogH. She’s a beauty. Happy for ya.

Thanks. Yea not bad for 112 years old. I’ve seen much newer in much worse shape. They sure don’t make em like this anymore. Gotta love that old copper.

Well who would you rather talk to, the prom queen beauty pageant winner whose idea of a great day starts at the beauty parlor, then tea with the 'girls', then on to the spa, and finishes with a night at the opera or ballet, OR her twin sister who flies a WWI biplane, drank Jack Nicholson under the table, supped with the Prince of Whales, has a scar on her cheek from that night in Bangkok, and can score 95 out of a hundred at a thousand yards with a .30 caliber rifle?
Just like your cent, I think the second would be far more interesting than a beauty queen.
You make a valid point my friend. As long as she has all her teeth, I’m good with it.

That’s a pretty cool find. I haven’t found anything like that recently. My best find ever was when I was 10. I found a standing liberty quarter in my change. It was in pretty rough shape and a 1930 but still a cool find.
Thanks. Yea she’s not the prettiest prom date, but it’s a little more interesting than most of my change.

Found this old worn out Lincoln cent in my change a while back. Kind of forgot I had it, and ran across it again. Probably the most worn out coin I have seen in hand. Looks smooth as eggs until you get it under some light. It has definitely seen some action. I noticed that the T at the end of the word trust on the obverse is gone. May have been rubbed off. The reverse is rough as a stucco bathtub. Looks like it has been jabbed with a knife a few times and a game of tic tac toe was in the works. Just thought I would share this with the rest onions. Crazy what is still out there in the wild. Enjoy this beater.

It would be very cool to have a few coins from the same cracked die. Especially if you could see a progression.

Nice pick ups JP. I need to start getting some older proofs. I’d like to have some old walker proofs.

I was wondering why the dies cracked so bad on the early Washington quarters? I had been looking at several of them and noticed a few. Most are cracked right close to the top of Washington's head. Is it the design that makes it weaker near that area for some reason? I noticed most of the ones I saw were 1955s also, for some odd reason. I own two of them with small cracks. I seen a 1955 for sell that NGC recognized the crack on the label. And it's right in the same area. Here's pictures of my two. The first coin also has a crack at the bottom right. The second coin is just a small one but it is definitely a small crack. Thought it may have been a scratch at first and I examined it under a microscope.
Some dandy fine GWs HogH.

I am looking at a coin graded “PF 68 W ULTRA CAM” in an older holder.
Would that be equivalent to “PF 68 + ULTRA CAM” if graded today?
Thanks for any insight!
It means “white” for a clean untoned coin. Those were designations that were only used for about 2 years I think. There is also a designation T for a toned coin.
