  1. Sorry for your loss. I lost mine a couple years ago. He passed the day after his 60th birthday. I still think about him everyday. This fathers day has not been the same without him.
  2. Thank you hoop and zadok. Ive been thinking for a long time about venturing into ancients. We do have 4 ancient coins already. That helped clear a few things up for me.
  3. Happy fathers day. My old lady and kids got me a singing card with a bass on it. . Also had a dinner at the inlaws. Old lady took me Saturday out to eat Chinese. Then other than that I worked on our junky vechicle all day yesterday. I thought about my dad all day also. Sure am missing him. Wish we coulda spent more time together before he passed.
  4. The only thing Ive ever done is dip certain coins in my collection in acetone and let them air dry. I never scrub or wipe them with anything. They are usually my lower grade album coins. I only do it if theres a foreign substance on them. If I ever have a high value coin that ever needs it Im gonna not bother with it. Ill send it to the professionals and let them do it. If your not careful you can really destroy your coins. And like others have said the damage can not be reversed.
  5. I agree. Kinda discouraging when you look at alot of the top spots and there is no photos. All you can do is just imagine what the top spot coins look like. Even though Im way behind on my sets and dont have the serious coins needed for higher positions, I still add pictures of my coins. I think its what makes the registry fun. Looking and admiring everyones coins.
  6. Lets all congratulate our very good friend @Lem E He worked very hard and earned that #1 spot with his impressive nickel collection. I knew he was gonna do it. Im very happy to see him finally earn that position. Congratulations brother.
  7. Thoughts and prayers for his family. May he rest in peace.
  8. Great write up Mr Lange. That taught me a few things about modern clad I did not know. Id like to find a 1982 quarter in mint state. Thats my birth year. Didnt know they were that hard to come by in MS.
  9. Very cool story. I was hoping it went to someone honest when Lem E was telling me about it. Very cool it was someone on the forum here.
  10. I really like the look of it. But what concerns me is, if heavy coins may shift in them then what happes if one with a light coin in it is accidentally dropped. Would the impact possibly cause the lighter coin to shift. Im always very careful handling my coins but theres always the possibility of dropping one. Were all human and it can happen. Ive accidentally dropped a couple of my other holders before.
  11. The 1898 looks like a cameo to me. I could be wrong though. Im no coin grader but those are stunning.
  12. Those are some beauties. Cant wait to see them after theyre done. I think they are gorgeous in the current condition now. Id say if we we lived to be that old we would have a little haze to. I bet they will really be amazing when its removed. Please share when you get them back. I really enjoy admiring old coins like that.
  13. I kinda started when I was young. Dad had a few old coins I used to get out and look at all the time. I really enjoyed looking through them. They were all junk such as worn indians and wheaties. A few v nickels and things like that in really worn condition. I really got started about 3 to 4 years ago. I was buying raw circulated coins from a small time dealer at a local flea market and my intrest kept growing. Then I joined this NGC forum and started learning from the experts on here and started buying mint state coins and working on sets. I do not sell. Ive never sold any of my coins. I have however gave a couple friends and a couple kids a few coins to try and get them into the hobby. I look for attractive coins now. Mostly ones that go to the sets Im working on. Im currently working on silver Washington quarters. My youngest son and I are also working on a set of Franklin halfs together. I look for attractive toning, mostly rim toning. Also blast white coins with lots of luster.
  14. Nice one Mr Bill. You can bout see yourself in that one. Very lusterous.
  15. That was a great deal. Nearly perfect quarter. I always liked the bicentennials.
  16. I have what I consider 2 main sets. Of course my silver quarters and just started on Franklins. It was meant to be a side quest but my son got very interested in wanting to help me. So it became a main also. Were trying for ones that fit our budget so we going from MS63 and up if we can afford it. I prefer FBL but I got a couple very appealing coins that wasnt full lines. And were happy with those. Definately wont be able to go full lines on the old dreaded S mint mark Franks. Im well over half way done on my quarters. Got some dreaded key dates gonna be tough later on. Now on side projects is my W quarters. I put together 2 sets of 2019. One MS65 and one MS66. I need one more 2020 to finish a set of MS65. Also working on a full set of innovation dollars in OGP as they come out. So far got them all in proof and reverse proof except the new one just released. Not really putting together sets in the rest Im collecting but Im interested in all sorts of other coin types. Morgans, eagles, tax tokens, Walkers, buffalos, lincoln cents, ancients, and several others. I really would love to build sets of older coins but theres no way I could ever complete them unless I could find some buried gold or something. But Id really like to collect German Marks and half marks. I own one half mark and I think its a stunning coin. I would really enjoy collecting more. Other than that its mostly American money. Im a lover of almost all coins. I certainally have lots of respect for the engravers of all of them. To sum it up other than my 2 mains I collect bout everything I find appealing. If I ever finish those two, as my good frind zadok says, if the race aginst time gives me enough years ill do my very best to start on other sets and maybe my kids will be able to finish what I dont. My main goal is to have fun and enjoy what Im doing and hope to have a collection ill be proud to pass on to my children. Ive never had much in life and Id like to have something to pass on to my kids that is of some value. May not be much but the more I can add the better. I just wish Id found this hobby back when I was young. I could of had an impressive collection by now. Im very happy to see my children get into it at a young age.
  17. I bought this one at auction for around $120. It graded ms66. Its a fairly high grade. There are several alot nicer but I thought I got a great deal on it. This just an example as far as the cost of grading a AU coin and buying one in mint state already graded.
  18. It costed me around $90 every submission Ive sent. Just NGC price. Not counting me paying for insurance and shipping getting it there. NGC requires you to pay for them to insure it and pay to ship it back to you.
  19. Youd have a better chance at hitting the powerball then finding a real 1943d copper cent. There are millions of counterfeits floating around. As others have said they are both counterfeit.
