  1. Im with you Kurt. No longer than Ive been collecting Ive seen alot of things thats very ridiculous. Has it always been like that or did it come on all at once? Wish I coulda started in the good ole days. Seems every hobby Ive ever had greed has tried to ruin it.
  2. If I could go a few years back in time probably a cc trade dollar.
  3. One of these maybe? A gift from usmc ray.
  4. Thank you Mr Lange. That looks much better than the normal reverse.
  5. Thank you @Just BobIve been thinking of that theory but didnt know if it was correct. I always considered it a possibility. Thanks for confirming it.
  6. One theory I thought of was It took lots of metal to fill in Washingtons head and didnt let it strike the tail feathers on the reverse as well.
  7. I had the day off work so I figured Id spend some time admiring some of my coins. Ive noticed this for a long time but looking through my quarters today brought back my curiousity. Ive been wanting to ask this question for a long time. What is the reason the tail feathers are so weak on quarters? Also the tops of the leaves in that area? While putting together this set Ive noticed its very hard to find one with tail feathers that are storngly struck. Even on quarters where everything else is well struck. Is it due to the relief of them or something such as that? Ive been wondering about this for a long time and thought of possibilities but would love to hear some expert opinions. The photo below is one example of one of my coins. Its a 1934. But it really seems like all the 1940's I have are the worst.
  8. One example I can call out is the 2000 wounded eagle sac dollar. I think its crazy the premiums are so high because someone named it. Its just a simple die crack that goes through the eagle. Its cool if people like that kind of stuff but there are literally hundreds of other coins I would buy before I paid that kind of a premium for a simple die crack. Just because someone hyped it up by naming it wounded eagle. Im with Neo. Its still fun to look for them and have kids search change for them but all the hype has turned me away. I dont really see the need to try and name every little defect. They are so numerous and it just confuses new collectors and makes them think they are something special.
  9. I kinda liked a few coins with die cracks to some degree when I first started collecting. Then everywhere I look I see all these crazy names for them and its completely turned me aginst them: Wounded deer. Spike head George. Speared buffalo Crackhead Jeff. Crippled eagle. Its ruined it for me. Espically when I see people online charging a high premium for them. I still think some of the major cracks are pretty neat. But all these spitting animals and crippled eagles and things are not my thing. I get tired of seeing every die crack get a cute little name. But if thats what your into then thats great. Im happy for the people who are into them but it gets old seeing all the names for every little spot on a coin. Espically when someone is trying to give it name to try and make it sound like its really something and make a premium off them. To me they will always be defects. And Ive thrown some back in the change jar before. I need to start slinging them out in the yard when I find them so it will be one less coin someone cant take advantage of someone with on etsy or ebay.
  10. Very good news. Congrats. That one is a sweet coin to have in the collection.
  11. Birthday present from the old lady. Sellers pictures. Just bought tonight.
  12. That was ironic. I read this post as we were driving by the Corvette museum on 65. Lol on our way home. Got our day in early.
  13. It looks pretty good now. The area were in was not hit very bad. That was a bad storm.
  14. We been working near Bowling Green and actually staying right in Bowling Green. I looked online and saw they had a few shops. Was wondering if there is anyone on here familiar with the area? Seems like I seen someone on here before from this area. I been thinking about stopping and checking a few out one day if I can get off early enough. This seems like a large town. Alot going on here.
  15. Very interesting information my friend. Im also surely ready to blow those candles out. Im planning on going to the river and try to catch a big flathead Saturday night. I talked the old lady into going with me. If I dont have to work Saturday.
  16. That would be a great topic to discuss in FMTM 2. Theres many questions rattling around my mind right now
  17. Definately been cleaned. It would make a good pocket piece. Carry it in your pocket a few years and it will eventually wear the scratches down.
  18. It came in today. I had work out of town this week. Had my old lady face time me and look at it over the phone. It looks very nice. Very lusterous. You can almost see yourself in it. Im very happy to add it to my collection
