  1. Im going to do one of those guess the grade deals on this 1947 S quarter. I got it at the same auction as the 1934. I think its kind of fun to see everyone take a guess at coins people post. Ill say yes or no as people guess. If anyone can guess for my bad photography skills.
  2. Looks like the letters in UNITED took a few little hits. The reverse is what knocked it down. It still looks way better than some ms 65 modern quarters i have. I got some west point quarters skinned all to pieces that graded ms65.
  3. Finally made it home. Sorry about the glare on it. I still can't get the right light on it. Its a pretty shiny quarter also. The light glares off it pretty bad.
  4. I just got off work. Ill be home in about an hour or so and ill put it on here.
  5. Id love to get a few ancients to add to my collection but I don't know enough about them. Afraid of getting ripped off. Some are absolutely stunning. Probably one of my favorites is Athenian Owl coins. They made some real pieces of art back in those days.
  6. It looks pretty nice. Soon as I get in from work I'll share a picture of it and get all of you alls opinions.
  7. It looks really nice in hand. Im happy to have won the bid on it. I got it for a $22.00 dollar bill. No one else bidded there at last.
  8. Soon as I get home from work this evening ill take a picture of it and share it. I should have to begin with. Im sorry about that. I usually get in around 6 or so and ill go straight and do it.
  9. Is this a medium moto? I just got the honor of adding this piece of history to my collection and wanted to learn more about it. Ive looked at several on the internet and think its a medium moto. I believe they are the more common ones also aren't they? I noticed the heavy motos have the big sharp w that the middle extends further up than the rest of it. So that just leaves light and medium. And I'm thinking medium. Im not worried about no values or anything like that. I know I don't have a valuable coin. Im just in a learning phase right now and want to learn types and differences in them. Thank you for any feedback.
  10. Looks good man. That acetone is some real stuff
  11. If its not damage from laying in the streets then its some kind of crude graffiti someone has scratched into it which is also just damage. They did not do that at the mint in no kind of way shape or form. Its a junk cent thats noone would want to pay another cent for it.
  12. It sure looks like one dont it. Sweet find. Cool name for him also. It definitely looks raised from looking at the pics. Thats awesome my friend.
  13. Can't tell by the picture but I learned from these guys on the forum that die cracks are raised off the face of the coin and scratches are cut down into it. And scratches can displace metal and raise it to another place. After seeing a few examples close up you will be able to learn the difference fairly quick. I hope it is a die crack on yours. It will give it some great character.
  14. I tried to take a picture of a buffalo nickle of mine. Im getting a little better but still having trouble with glare. Ill figure it out eventually with a little trial and error.
  15. Same here. When I joined this forum I asked about a couple coins and tried my best to get good pics of them. And they were ok, but now that ive been on here a while , I started seeing the importance of having really good pictures. And I'm going to start trying to improve mine. Thanks for the post. I will look thru it and try some of those methods also.
  16. Those look great. I think you got er down now. Ill have to try that next time I take a picture
  17. I wouldn't see a 43 having that much circulation myself. There were so many people looking for them. Id think it would have been plucked out by someone before it had been passed around enough to wear the date off it.
  18. Looks like the coin has been thrown out into a parking lot and layed for a long time. And run over and dragged on pavement or gravel. And stomped by people walking in and out of stores or whatever. And exposed to the elements. Then someone spotted it and picked it up and put it back into circulation. If u ever pick very many up out of parking lots alot of them look like that. Unless you pick them up when they are freshly dropped. But if they lay a long time they get lots of abrasion and damage. Ive found hundreds over the years like that laying in parking lots. But we have alot of gravel driveways where I live.
  19. Some of those people are using the photos from the TPG service. You have to pay handsomely for it but they will take professional photos of it when you send it in to grade it. Alot of those very nice photos are the ones they are using. Not all but quite a few. I never do pick that option when I get a coin graded. I usually can barely afford to have it graded alone without all the add ons. If I ever get hold of something worth thousands I probably will have it done but I don't see that happening. Be nice but its hard to just find those laying around.
  20. She's a fine looking dollar regardless. Id be happy to add one like it to my collection. Shame it didn't grade. Good luck on the next round my ky neighbor.
  21. I appreciate it my friend. It was great to meet you to. I've stood on my head and everything trying to get photos of coins. Its hard to do. I cant seem to get the right kind of light. Also all I have is a phone to take them with. Id like to get a decent camera but really can't afford it. Every time I save a few dollars I end up buying a coin or something instead.
  22. Very interesting information. Now I got a better understanding. It would be bad if san francisco was waiting on dies and finally got a shipment in and they all had O or CC on them. And the other mints get the S shipment. Have any mints ever had to shut down striking over a mix-up like that? Or would they just keep striking a different denomination?
