Woods020 got a reaction from JT2 in MERCURY 10C 41/42 Tier selection question
Yeah I wasn’t even thinking dollars. I was more blown away by the coin. As long as the 42/41 isn’t harshly cleaned, which I don’t really see but could be the case, no way this one doesn’t blow past $3k and keep gaining speed.

The only time I do not meet this goal is when she is sleeping.
(... and I still didn't get anything)

Okay. So, this was truly my error... I didn't realize the split. Sorry about that.

You were pushing this coin for months on the other site, even after bona fide experts, who handled authentic 64SMS for auction companies said you don't have one.
Weren't you advised to send it in for authentication if you disagreed with the opinions? Please do not turn this into another thread were you add a few additional pics every month to get a bump and keep trolling along. Send it in for the only opinion that matters, the TPG
The host of this chat board has a number of expert graders and authenticators who would be more than happy to certify your coin. Don't mess around with the great unwashed masses of the chat board denizens, go right to the experts. Send it in. Now

Howdy Peaceman. Glad to see you found this forum.
I am going to welcome you and then let you discover how many of us are over here. Dozens of members at collectors forum (pcgs) also haunt here.
Over there your 64 Kennedy wasn’t a SMS and last you said you were sending it in for grading.
I like to consider this my home group and I’ll be danged , if you are going to interact here , I suggest you watch how you comport yourself.
Oh. My elderly eyes didn’t notice, you got yourself banned over there 😉🦫🙀
If you try real hard you can get banned here too
Just watch it, I got my eyes on you 👀

Yes, last night’s session ended with Kennedy halves and tonight’s session started with Bust dollars. Here’s a link to the information page for the sale, with session days/times, lot numbers, etc.: https://coins.ha.com/c/auction-home.zx?saleNo=132213

I was just alerted to this thread, so checked the results from last night’s session. If anything happened on our end, it’s not apparent to me.
I viewed prices realized, including through the last lot that was listed and sold last night, seemingly as scheduled. I have copied that information below. If there had been an issue, while there’s no guarantee I would have heard about it, chances are very good that I would have.
Whatever the cause of the problem, I’m sorry you experienced it.

Woods020 reacted to Just Bob in Commemoratives
Lee's book, that RWB mentioned above, will be THE Definitive Work on classic commemorative coins. In fact, it may end up being more than one volume; he has amassed so much information that one book may not be able to hold it all. I am very curious about how such a work will affect collectors' perceptions of commemoratives, and what may happen to the popularity, and therefore the prices, if the book does well.

Woods020 reacted to Coinbuf in 1992 Lincoln Memorial Cent Lamination Error
You have a damaged coin not an error coin, it has a value of one cent and I suggest you spend it soon before the zinc rot turns it to dust.

Welcome to the forum.
Sorry but that is not a lamination, that is zinc rot. Value one cent.

Woods020 got a reaction from Alex in PA. in Are Authentication and Grading companies "stuck in the mud?"
I think expert is a high bar. I’m far from an expert, and honestly may never be what I consider an expert. I don’t do this all day every day. However I think all collectors owe it to themselves to get a basic form of education. At a minimum be able to within reason grade a coin in segments like 63-65, know if a coin is cleaned, and the tell tale signs of a counterfeit. Additionally learning strength of strike, the basic minting process/errors, and AT are pretty important. Fake errors and AT are rampant these days. I’m not saying you need to have a PHD in numismatics, which I believe actually exists, but no one should spend a large sum of their hard earned money without knowing the basics of what they are buying.
I will also acknowledge sadly this is not reality. Therefore I do not believe TPGs have anything to worry about.

Not to my knowledge. PCGS has added the NFC chip to their slabs to combat counterfeiting, but that’s as tech as it gets that I know of. But your smart phone can scan that chip. Just not track where it’s going haha

Woods020 reacted to Coinbuf in MERCURY 10C 41/42 Tier selection question
The max per coin value is $3,000 for the standard tier, which the 42/1 could easily surpass, the max per coin value for econ is $300.

Woods020 reacted to Just Bob in MERCURY 10C 41/42 Tier selection question
At one time, it was an acceptable practice. I believe Whitman, maker of coin folders, even had printed instructions on the best way to do it. Now, it is taboo. ( And, YouTube idi ots are still giving instructions.)
It isn't easy telling someone that Dad or Grandad (or even the dealer from whom they purchased their coins) may have diminished the value. But, as I said, they were just doing what they thought was best.
That aside, I sincerely hope these are genuine.

I could be wrong but I dont think its a counterfeit. Looks good to me but Im not as skilled as thes e other guys at spotting them. It looks good to me. I hope it is legit. Like to see good things work out for people. It would suck if its been cleaned but will still be worth a good little chunk. Hoping the best my friend.

Are these as pale grey in person or is it a white balance issue with the photos. They may have seen a good dip before you got them. But it’s hard to tell from the photos alone. As Coinbuf also said if you can get a really sharp pic of the reverse that fills the screen we can probably check something for you. Just to be safe before you send them in.
The 21-D is for sure cleaned. I don’t see mechanical cleaning signs in the other two, but I think they have been over dipped.

I think that’s when I would politely tell the insurance company I was very careful not to touch the gold they insured and left it in place. Didn’t want to mess with their property and it’s right where it was for them to recover.
