  1. I can only suspect, with common sense as my backup, that when you get into the category that this FB Mercury (The upper bands are iffy but I think there is still enough separation IMHO) would potentially fall into, TPG's really have to scrutinize every minute detail. The inside top of the S mm looks like it has been pushed slightly sideways and created an unnatural angle of sorts. I don't know, it's just what I can see after copying the pooh and then zooming in. Not sure how that would happen on an otherwise fairly flawless coin. That would be one incredibly unlucky "hit" right there inside the mm if that is the case. I agree with Alex about maybe getting a second opinion.
  2. I took this straight from our host's "Coin Grading" section. Damage (often referred to as Details) and alterations are two different things. It is hard to see your mint mark on the coin even by zooming in, at least it is for me anyway. I can however, see some type of discrepancy in the upper curve of the S, but that's about all. From NGC: "Coins that have been damaged or display excessive surface hairlines or other detrimental surface conditions must have their surface impairments properly described. This is done using NGC Details Grading, a service performed automatically when applicable. Coins with detrimental surface conditions are described using Details Grades that accord to the level of wear and descriptions of their impairments. They are then encapsulated using a distinctive purple NGC Details Grading label. There are other coins that cannot be encapsulated by NGC at the determination of NGC coin graders. These include coins that are not genuine or have altered dates or mintmarks".
  3. I second all the above that has been said. I'm glad you are doing well and back home.
  4. I was going through a random bank roll of Nickels a few months ago when this guy showed up. I had never quite seen anything like this, but I was very confident it was not PSD/PMD, die deterioration doubling or anything else that could have happened to this coin after is was struck (or so I hoped). I posted it on another coin forum that I had recently joined (my first post there and not ATS just FYI) and all I pretty much got in response was the aforementioned. I won't go into the specifics, primarily because I did not ask, as to why commenting was turned off on my post there on this other forum only after about a day later. I then had a gentleman by the name of Mike Diamond, some of you may know him , create his own post on that forum in the attempt to find me since my original post had been shut down and he obviously could not comment. He respectfully requested to see my coin in hand for further examination. Of course, I sent it off to him. Mike found it worthy enough and did a write-up in the 'Collector's Clearinghouse' section of Coin World, May 16th edition. I've never had anything like this happen in my coin collecting days so this was completely new to me. I was humbled (still am) and very honored to say the least that he reached out to me. I am truly grateful for that. Here's a few pics of my "odd" Jefferson:
  5. Hey TJ. Yes, he is in the process of trying to see who will take this thing for attribution. I actually just got done talking with him about submitting it sooner than later. I will keep everyone posted as to what the outcome is for him (that may be a month or so...... as usual). Thanks!
  6. Hey Ronnie! Glad to be back here chatting with my "buds". I do have A LOT going on these days in every aspect of life. Going to try to spend more time here on the forum; A place I will always call "Home". I would never turn my back on this forum even though I am not as involved as I once was (hopefully that will change). I have made too many valuable friends and connections here that I hold dear to my heart. Thanks my friend!
  7. Thanks! If only it was my coin....argh.... It's all good though. I am more than glad to help out a friend, and fellow collector, in potentially having a new variety listed.
  8. Thanks Roger. I believe this one is going to pass the test.
  9. Thank you JP, I appreciate it. Splits on LIBERTY are difficult to see in the pic but I believe they are there. Still waiting on some better pictures of those areas.
  10. Hey Coinbuf. First of all thank you and nice to be back here with you guys. I have not posted this coin aanywhere else except here. The RPM was a potential bonus but without the coin in hand, I cannot tell for sure. I believe the date is a winner on this one and LIBERTY may be too. Hopefully my friend may have found a first for this year and mint. I have sent in several other coins to be attributed but never a modern Cent. Do you know who attributes Cents these day? I know Brian Ribar does Wexler's DD's for Nickels and Dan Griffin does Wexler's RPM's but I'm not sure who this would need to go to if submitted for attribution. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!
  11. Hello everyone. I took a break from the forum for awhile in order to handle some other things. Feels good to be back here posting again. I have a good friend, who is a knowledgeable collector, that supplied me with these pictures. While he is not a member here on the forum, he asked me for my opinion regarding what you can see in these pics he took. He supplied me with several different pictures. I have chosen the best ones in which for you to see what appears to be doubling on the date. The 9's, to me, readily appear to have what I believe to be true hub doubling which is very similar to the date on the 1996 Lincoln DDO as shown on coppercoins 1DO-002, or Wexler's WDDO-003 example. The 1 also appears to have notching on the top and bottom. Doubling of this nature, on a 1969-D Linc., is not listed anywhere else on any of the "go-to" variety websites. In addition, the last picture shows what appears to be an RPM with a split at the bottom leg of the D. I believe this one has potential as a possible first, but as always, I wanted to run it by the pros here for your knowledgeable opinions and expertise. Once again, I do not have coin in hand, but the pics are pretty darn good and will hopefully speak for themselves (at least the date anyway at this point). The one pic of LIBERTY is a bit dark but he is trying to get a better picture of it. Lots of pics I know, but I wanted to show them all with different lighting in order to dismiss any light issues. Thanks for your input.
  12. Great Hog.... JUST GREAT!!!!! And one of those coins you "put back into circ." just happened to find its way in the pocket of a newb here on the forum. As a result, it upset them because they were already MEGA RICH in their own mind from this "one of a kind error". Super job brother!!!! (just couldn't resist bustin your chops my friend with some humor.... I've been away from the forum for awhile handling some other things. Good to be back)👍
  13. Ok.... that is a good one TJ (not VKurt by the way...LOL). But (pun intended), is that some type of Pareidolia I'm seeing there? Is it just me, or does the guy in the red hat appear to be looking down at this gentleman's derrière? Now that's gross!
  14. You're welcome Bill. Usually, with these horrid copper plated zincolns, there's normally other things associated with later die states but not always the case. Stuff like ridge rings (usually on the obverse), split plating (sometimes), die deterioration doubling, etc....., you get the picture here, are usually seen. But just based on what your pictures shows, I'd put it in the stage I mentioned due to the lack of detail on certain aspects of your Cent. Just my opinion though.
  15. Actually I have. I saw VKurtB at a coin show! Oh my.... I just couldn't resist. Sorry Kurt....... obviously all in fun my friend. You know my respect for you.
  16. Hey Bill. In my opinion, this is a LDS coin. I say this because it appears that your coin has seen quite a bit of polishing (predominately STATES) and the little Lincoln statue on the reverse is barely visible which could be from a lot of polishing as well as just simply a worn out die. Are you asking if this is a DDR? I know the VV picture you supplied is DDR-001 listed by them but I'm not seeing it on your coin due to the obscurity and minimal relief on little Linc.
  17. Thanks for the comment earlier RWB. I forgot to comment, sorry. My water issue was not from flooding, something different which wound up not causing too much damage, thankfully. I live in the mountains so if I get flooded then it's been a bad day for humankind in general. I know exactly what you are talking about regarding your A/C drain pipe. That little condensation pump and drain pipe can wreak havoc when either fails as you unfortunately know. It's amazing how much water an A/C unit produces and how much water damage a faulty pump or drain line can do. Sorry that happened to you Roger. I urge EVERYONE to inspect their condensation pumps yearly so that the same thing doesn't happen that happened to you, Roger. I actually ran my A/C condensation pump drain line into my swimming pool just to capture the water instead of it draining on the ground.
  18. I couldn't resist this one Roger (especially after the torrential rains have wreaked havoc on my house, I have finally calmed down from this fact, and have now just sat down in front of my laptop): That must have been ONE BIG STOCKING you had there for Christmas!!! "Dolia (Odia: ଡୋଲିଆ) is a village in the Dhenkanal district of the Indian state of Odisha " And.... if you got a 'can' of 10W30, that was one heckuva really old can of motor oil. You sure it wasn't DW40? That stuff comes in a can and is the mathematical equivalent of 10+30, taking the W and rearranging it in the formula, and then simply adding a D.... Oh my... just my late night observation here on the forum once again (obviously after my wife administered me my meds....) I need to get more active during the day it appears. That is if NGC does not delete me because my debit card on file with them expired and I received a notice today regarding this issue. BTW Roger- Completely all in fun here my friend.👍
  19. @tj96 You are well liked and appreciated here which surely is not the case for the lack of "likes" on your post. I truly think the issue arises from a result of the lack of recognition of PCR, yes, PCR, from our forum friends that cannot yet identify this true form of DDD. I have not yet seen anyone able to identify this extremely prominent variety concerning this young child. Maybe it is simply a result of a lighting issue in the pic???🤔
  20. TJ, I'm wondering if anyone has yet to "get" this one? It looks very disturbing no doubt. There's no likes on this original picture and post of yours (except mine which I emoji laughed at) and was not out of disrespect for this poor little "HUNGRY" girl.......... Hope you don't mind me throwing this 'clue' out here because I would NEVER laugh at a crippled, disfigured or handicap person!!
  21. Looks like the reverse of 1938 based off your pics (if I am seeing this correctly?) which is definitely the rarer of the two. If you use one of the variety websites, make sure you are comparing apples to apples. Just FYI. Edit to add: No, it does not appear to be the "biggie" DDR FS-801 as mentioned. But there are several other recognized DDR's for this year that are listed on Varietyvista.com. Just wanted to clarify this.
